      Blowfish, mostly.

Much of the dream itself was pretty straightforward (I'm fairly avid in interpreting them, I think it's important), but I'm at a loss as to what blowfish might symbolize. The situation was non-threatening.

Also, though, I met a friend in the dream (my best friend) and hadn't seen her for a while. She was more outgoing than she is in real life and greeted me with pretty sexually suggestive ways in front of some more of our friends. It was comical, but completely unlike her in real life. Wondering if this might be anything abnormally significant.

Mostly wondering about what blowfish symbolizes, though.

Although it’s usually best to have the whole dream as well as detailed background information about the dreamer and recent events in order to provide an accurate interpretation of specific dream images, it’s possible to give a few ideas based on the fundamental language used by dreams, that is, one of analogy and metaphor.

For example, a fish lives underwater and as a result is usually “not seen”. Therefore it normally represents something about which the dreamer is mostly unconscious. And more specifically a blowfish inflates itself to help ward off predators for example.

Water itself can flow, be still, be raging like an ocean in a storm etc. and is often therefore symbolic of emotions and other unconscious aspects of the dreamer.

So putting these ideas together would point to the possibility that just before the dream, a certain unconscious tendency to “puff yourself up” appeared, unknown to you and perhaps arising from unacknowledged worries or fears and the need to “make a good impression” in some situation.

Your friend’s image might be the dream’s way of further clarifying this idea. For example, she could represent the fact that while you are normally able to present a well-functioning feeling tone to others, perhaps something happened from being “puffed up” that made your actions and expression etc. look somewhat “inappropriate”, using the analogy of being sexually suggestive in front of others.

In this approach, the dream would be trying to fill in a blind spot so that a certain unconscious way of acting could become more conscious and therefore less likely to cause problems when dealing with others.

As mentioned, this interpretation might not fit your personal circumstances very well, but I hope that it will at least help in some way to eventually unravel the personal message of your dream.
