      Dream Recall and Nightmares ...?

      Something I've noticed lately.

I've been remembering dreams usually on a daily basis, one or two a night, and have been practicing my recall. Lately, however, I've noticed that I haven't had any nightmares in the five or six months that I've been practicing.

Oddly enough, even though I have dreams that should induce a nightmaric state, I've been able to keep under control and not get upset.

I can remember one dream I had in which me and a group of people were all staying overnight in the loft of an old, abandoned house. While there, I realized a story of how the place had become haunted by the ghost of a little girl. The dream took this idea and a little girl appeared about ten feet away from me. Everyone in the loft immediately started to run for the door, but the girl floated up and blocked them. Then, the part that could have turned into terror began, and she started killing the people inside the room. Quickly, I became the only one left and she approached me. I could see her face clearly now and it looked as though her eyes had been torn out and were dangling from the sockets. There was dried blood on her cheeks. However, I had no fear.

At that point, she walked past me and out of the room. I followed and watched her enter another room in the loft and close the door. The dream continued normally and it was pleasant thereafter.

Just last night I had one of those terrible 'forgetting something important dreams'. However, instead of getting all anxious about it I simply unconsciously went with the flow of the dream and in fact said to myself within the dream that "I should just deal the the consequences of forgetting it" - which suprisingly enough lead to the aquisition of that forgotten object through other means - as well as a compliment by a dream character about how talented I am ... but it would probably take me too long to explain how that came about.

So, am I becoming more aware in my dreams? If so, is this a result of dream recall? And, if it is, then would this be a good way to reduce nightmares?

      dream recall

I've found that i could always recall most of my dreams...usually the same as you, 1 or two a night. But I didnt really consider my recall getting better untill i started to notice and develop the ability to notice smaller details in my dreams. Just remembering colour changes, my emotions as i went through my dreams and whatnot. But either way, i belive that your dream recall is probably improving...try to keep a dream journal to help you remember all of the smaller details. It has helped me a lot.
In my nightmares though, i usually don't become frightend. The mood normally changes before it gets to that point.

I've never had a nightmare before, so I really don't know what to say. All my dreams seem to lead off into "nightmare" territory, but never does. It just goes back to "interesting, but weird territories."
If this is their fate...Then so be it.

The concept of conflicts or fear within dreams is usually an interpretation of a conflict within life as well (unless it can be analyzed differently, of course, as a dream-wish fulfillment of some kind).

The fact that you have not had many nightmares does not mean much, it is not a bad nor good thing really. However, it can be thought then that you do not feel stressed in life at the time, or simply that you are happy and content with matters.

When you "forget an important part" of the dream, this is usually referred to as dream-censorship. This is when your mind forgets those parts of the dreams that is not important or, that you are repressing certain parts of the dreams that you do not like.

This can be the equivalent to a moment in the waking life when you, "forget what I was just about to do" or "I know I know what that name is, but just can't remember" on the tip of your tongue, so to say.

I have had similar dreams myself that involved a nightmare-creature (BloodShed) whom caused me much grief, so I can relate to you here.

How do you feel about everything going on in life at the moment? What would you change?
Are their conflicts occuring which you are powerless to change?

I look forward to hearing more from you, and hope I have been enlightening at all.

I haven't had a nightmare were I had experienced fear since I was a little kid. Everything that was remotely scary merely made an uneasiness in my mind of beiing pursured.

      That's quite interesting.

I've never really thought of a nightmare in this way - but I suppose it would be true. I'm trying to remember when I've had nightmares in the past and what may of triggered them, and I must say it was most likely some event that happened.

I'm feeling great at the moment and quite relaxed. Not much interesting or disturbing has happened lately, which is good. This might be the reason why most of my 'near-nightmares' have turned into pleasant ones.

I think part of the reason for this may also be my confidence. I've been feeling powerful lately and not much can stand in my way. Perhaps this is reflected into my dreams? Maybe I can now not fear what used to frighten me?

look forward to hearing more from you, and hope I have been enlightening at all.[/b]
      Very much so.
      Thank you.
