A pair of toughies

Well, to first say hello, my name is Mike, and I'm a Navyman from Gulfport, MS. I've had some troubling dreams that and I'm not sure why they've been bugging me. At face value, the dreams (two different ones) aren't disturbing, just weird like most dreams.

Since last July, I've been at school here for the next level of my training. Sometimes strenuous, but I'm over the hard part and its been getting boring to tell the truth. I'm happily married and my wife is down here with me. I recently got my follow on orders, and I'm happy with those as well.

Another thing I should put out there, I dont really remember my dreams unless they wake me up (nightmares, which I haven't had a truly scary once since high school). The first dream though, I had a strong gut feeling I had had the dream before, but didnt remember it. The second, I knew I had never had before.

Well, on with the dreams:

The first one, which occured maybe a week or so ago, takes place in some ancient temple looking building. I know that I'm at the entrance to the main and only room, which is under ground. The steps are right behind me. Though its under ground, there is a room lenghth rectangular opening at the top of the wall opposite me. It seems about 5 or so feet tall, and it reveals a dense (but not forbodeing) jungle. The jungle is a little ways from the "window".

The whole room is like an archeological dig site, there are ancient pillars of wood holding up the room which are 30 feet tall by my guess. Some men are milling about the room, looking at things. There's some moss covered stones in the room, and some other various objects, none of which stood out. My sight instantly centered on an ancient stone bookshelf in the left rear of the room. I walk over and examine the books. I feel a little annoyed because none of the books interest me, there are a few on recreational drugs (the illegal type), which I have never done.

As I'm standing there, a man who I assumed was the foreman said I have to leave, as they're about to blow the place up! He said specifically "were about to blow [pillar] number 9". I didnt feel any particular feeling at this news, not even panic. The men were hurriedly leaving the room, and I turned to leave too, and was at the top of the stairs when I had a thought. I returned to the bookshelf and grabbed a book (I dont remember which one, and I think it was a random choice), put it under my jacket, and went up the stairs to the van that had all the other guys in it. They then blew up the building. Then the dream ended.

I dont know why this dream bugs me. I thought about it for a while and couldnt think of anything. Perhaps the second dream is a follow up, for it also has destruction in it.

The second dream I had last night, and the start is a little fuzzy, but I know I had been trying to (and was on some assignment to) destroy an altar in a church. The room I was in had a few pews facing the altar, which was a simple one set on a dais about a half foot up, which was covered in bright red carpet. There was a curator type person in there, who didnt pay any attention to me at all. In the next room were a few armed guards/firemen.

I had tried several different ways to set the altar on fire, using flint and steel, some sort of flamible chemical, and both ways started the fire but every time the fire started, the curator yelled, not at me, but at the fact that the altar was on fire and ran out of the room to get the firemen/guards, who put the fire out. The second time they put it out I felt frustrated. I finally took out a simple bic lighter and set the red carpet on fire at its edge. This time the fire took quicker, and the curator yelled at me and went to get the guards. I knew the guards would come in the same door as the other two times, so I went to a different door and looked out a window in it.

Sure enough, the guards started to go in the same way they did before, and as they came in I went out the other door. I was in a hallway with a downsloping path that led into the room, the door to it on the left. Standing there, in the hall I was in, and to the right of the door with his back to the wall, was a guard. He had a knowing smile on his face and let me go. I ran out and got into a car and drove away, knowing that the altar was on fire and thats where the dream ended.

well quite often a dreamn will link to our current indset. All many dreams do is simply tell us how we feel right now and particularly how we felt yesterday.It maybe hidden in a silly storyline yet its there nevertheless
Together the dream symbols build up your emotional mood from perhaps the day before oir just in general right now.. right that very day. So you search for things to ibnterest you(books) yet the dream is followed by moments of crisis and the building being blown up. I like to reduce a dream tio a single quote which in some way captures your feelings.. perhaps it means this
"I am bored right now during training. I want to seek out somnething more intellectual or spiritual. Something to engage my brain. yet its impossible here there is alwayts something in the way. Its a military life and it seems like one crisis situation after another"

The navy is very good at building a sense of crisis ... thats the ethos..

Glad you bumped the dream as I was about to answer this about a week ago yet got distracted and forgot. Its nice to have a dream with some background information.

Many people write dream diaries. But actually it would be better if they wrote a normal diary. A diary is basically the highlights of the previous day and the things that are important to you. Dreams are exactly the same. Once understood they would symbolize those key moments and turning points in your feelings. So instead of interpreting the dreams try first to guess what the most likely issues are that you would dream about. Think of exactly the same things that you would write in a diary. Once decoded the dreams would symbolize exactly what you think on the key subjects dominating your mind. Think of quotes that capture your feelings such as "my father seems very quiet.
