      Question Bedroom Pressures

Before Dream: Woke up at 6:30 a.m. talked to my roommate about his girlfriend whom is my sister and about his work. He left at roughly 6:55 a.m. and I immediately fell asleep.

Dream: I was lying in my bed and awoken for wind blowing in my face. The wind was blowing really hard and I felt a pressure on my chest. I was trying to get up but the force wouldn’t let me. I tried to scream for help but no one could hear me. I reached for my phone but it was dead. I cried out yet I was starting to become soundless as if I were losing my voice. I repeatedly struggled to where at one point I nearly gave up. I awaken to my niece being on my arm. (She is approximately 5 years old.) I feel as though I have truly awaken from my dream but Katie, my niece, disappears. I begin to freak out, I’m terrified. In my mind I sensed someone was laughing at me. I screamed for help and yet again I seem soundless. I heard my sister in laws voice at the door. I tell her I’m scared and I need to leave the room now. She says she will take me to my granny. (My brother and Sister-in-Law moved in with us not to long ago and Granny is just staying the week.) I get up to go with her when I realize it wasn’t Jeanette, my sister in law, it was my brother Freddy. He had Jeanette’s voice and somehow it frightened me. I asked why this was happening to me. He picked up my tarot cards and something else of which I can’t remember and said, while pointing at them, that they were the reasons why. I tried to run and he chased me. I awoken in my dream again with m niece on my arm. I had thought it was all over just a couple of bad dreams. I looked down on Katie and gave her a kiss and she looked up at me with an evil smile. I couldn’t hear her but I could somehow read her mind and she was thinking that she got me. I tried to scream and finally my voice came out and strong and everything seemed to disappear.

After Dream: I finally awoke my trailer was shaking due to a winter Ice Storm we had. I was still kinda scared and turned on my light. For the first time in years I’ve had an unexplainable nightmare that scared the wits out of me. I even cried to my sister, grandma, and parents.

Comments: Are much appreciated...I have no idea how to understand my dreams.

Thanks but it just seems weird that this would be in the problem to the dream.

      Hello,

This sounds a bit like Sleep Paralysis. When we are in REM sleep, our bodies naturally become paralysed. However, when we awake, sometimes something in the brain doesn't completely switch over, and so when we wake up we still feel that we can't move. This is often accompanied by the feeling of a weight on the chest, speechlessness, and difficulty breathing, as well as by a 'feeling of evil' and very vivid hallucinations. It can be very frightening, and for thousands of years cultures all over the world thought of it as demonic visitations. Before science, it was called the Old Hag Syndrome, and it was thought that an actual demon or old witch was sitting on one's chest!

Though frightening, there is nothing supernatural about it. It sounds like you maybe kept trying and failing to wake up, what with all the false starts, and your brain was dishing up some freaky hallucinations/dreams depending on how awake you were! Maybe the storm and the shaking of the trailer kept almost waking you up and causing this.

Anyway, I don't think it means anything. I'm sure it was very unsettling, but it was just your biology at work. Chalk it up as science: 1, forces of darkness: 0.
