      Post Very Short Dream

I dreamt that I was sitting on my bed on my laptop(as I usually do for real) though my room is slightly rearranged. The door and bed are in a different place. As I'm surfing the web, I think I see something(through my peripheral vision) pass by my bedroom door, so I look up. When I look up, I see a 4'-something black shadowy human outline. It's solid, but completely black, and though I can't make out any features I know it's looking at me. Immediately upon seeing this, I scream at the top of my lungs. I was suddenly jerked awake during this. As I opened my eyes while waking up, it felt almost as if I had just blinked them and that thing would still be there. I thought I'd still be yelling, but I just had my mouth open. This whole dream took place in a matter of seconds. Probably the shortest dream I've ever had.

      Hello, Hexxen

It seems to be kind of a dream, which is telling you about some kind of a shadow in your life. It would help to know a bit more about your life at the moment, but I can try...
You say, you are focused on your laptop and surfing the web. Only with your peripheral vision you see, something is moving right out of your window.
Could it be, that at the moment you are very focused on just one side of your life(work?) and don't see much, what is going around you because you don't check much of the reality outside this "virtual"(computer, surfing web) thing you are very focused on so you don't notice some shadowy human figure. ..it seems to be something going on around you (even the room is a bit different as it is in reallity)
Maybe you can ask yourself a couple of questions, which would put a ray of light on this shadow. Which part of your life is too much on periphery in last time? What is you don't or maybe don't want to see? Try to associate..is this dark figure a male, female, what does "it" want? You scream when you see him/her...what is too scary for you and your way of living that you don't want to see until it is obvious?
Very emotional dram, it seems subconcesness is sending you a warning of a kind...look around yourself, confront reality if needed...calm and with courage, shadows are never as dark, once you open the window and touch them...on a long term better then to avoid them and be scared, because you sense, they are "there somewhere on the other side of the window"
I would call it a "deeper view dreams...unconcussnes(peripheral view) sees something, which is treatening for your ego.
Carry your dream with yourself a bit, you will come to a better understanding of it just by thinking what could it be

      Good luck, Plato

The Shadow was standing in my doorframe looking at me. I am not sure really why, but I think it is a man. Work is a big problem in my life right now. Well, more like lack of it. I lost my job, which caused me to lose my apartment and move back in with my boyfriends mother. My bf has been paying my bills and I'm super stressed because I hate feeling like a mooch. I also hate sitting on the computer too long, but I get bored. I worried for weeks about how to tell my dad(my mom's not in the picture) because he's always raised us to be very independent. I'm afraid I disappointed him, even though he said he wasn't. I did however, hide from him the fact that I lost my job. That would just be too much. It's really hard for me to think what the shadow wants, because the instant I saw it I started screaming bloody murder and then woke up. It didn't even do anything to me, just looked at me, and I freaked. That's why I get a little confused.

I had a VERY similar dream to this when I was a child once. I was watching TV in my room, when the door creaked open and a bulky fellow wearing a black robe looked at me with bloodshot eyes, he ran behind my chair and I followed him and started punching his back, but I was around 7 at the time so it didn't do anything to him, and just as he picked me up, I woke up.

Woah. That's pretty freaky. Mine didn't have any facial features. It was completely shadow, yet I knew it was looking me directly in the eyes.

Maybe this shadow man figure is kind of your inner parent, which is looking at you. Could be from raising up in a way you described about your father...it still seems to warn you: look around (for the job?)...that could be a solution.
