My Sister and the Woman

I'll include as much as I can, but my memory of the dream is fading fast...

I was in a supermarket shopping. I was with my husband. It felt like we were preparing for something. The supermarket didn't look safe, it was dark and there was something scary about it (though I didn't feel scared). We forgot something and had to go back.

Not sure how the trasition took place, but I was back at a house where I was staying. I had to clean the stone walls with a long broom-like device. The handle of the broom was a bit like a tree pruner, in that you held it with two hands, using one hand to stabilize it and the other hand to cause the brush part to "polish" the stones. A woman was helping me, and my sister did not want me with her. She kept checking on us and I could tell she didn't want us to be alone for any length of time.

As we cleaned the stones and were noticing how beautiful they looked (coming cleaner than I expected) we fell onto a large armchair together, with me underneath her. Her body below the waste felt like mans, but she looked like a woman in every other way. We talked about liking each other and I told her she was beautiful. In this portion of the dream I knew I was a man. We were about to kiss when my sister walked in and I felt uneasy. She either said something or was about to say something when I woke up (to the phone ringing).

After my brief phone call I wanted to go back to sleep to see where the dream would go, but could not get back there.

FYI: I am female, and married. I don't have a sister. (I'm new around here - Hi everyone, and thanks in advance!)

Ok, there are three things you must note from your dream.

1) The sister.
2) The act of cleaning a stone wall.
3) The supermarket.

Also of note is the fact you were sweeping the stone wall instead of simply polishing it. Lots of S's.

Part of what I see is that you and your husband are currently in or heading for a disagreement over making decisions. The arguments or disagreements aren't necessarily pertaining to any decision in particular... rather, you and he are finding yourselves in a bit of a struggle to make decisions. Perhaps the two of you are indecisive and looking to the other a little too much for simple decisions. The supermarket represents choices, but NECESSARY choices, and the two of you seemed scared of some sort of impending trouble. Simply, you two have trouble making decisions and though it hasn't been a major problem yet, you see it potentially as a problem in the future.

The second part of the dream supplements this. The act of cleaning often signifies coming to terms with a piece of your past. The dirt represents things that have accumulated over time. Now, what you're seeing is that you are using a long device to clean these stones. That means its something a little further, a little out of reach in your past. You dream of a nonexistent sister, who appears to be a sort of conscience, in a way. You dream of becoming a man and expressing yourself physically with a female, and your sister does not approve and tries to stop you.

I'm assuming when you were younger (long broom), you had strong desires, not necessarily of the sexual kind, just desires in general (you don't have to rule this out, but that's not what I'm getting from the dream). The stone wall tells me that limits were placed upon you in some ways (convention or something else very old was to blame, maybe family structure or genetics), but the fact that you are cleaning the stone wall tells me that you are managing to make the most of this. The sister is a part of you that is trying to prevent yourself from expressing your true desires. It is almost as if you have someone in the back of your head always saying "no, you can't do that". True, your desires seem to defy convention (you being a man even though you know you're a woman, yet you are still attracted to someone who is a woman and a man), but the odd gender assignment tells me that there isn't an inherently right or wrong value assigned to whatever you desire. Whether you pursue or don't pursue your desires, it is actually of no consequence; bad or good. Why?

Because when you woke up, that conscience, like your sister, doesn't exist.

Lesson: Make decisions, take charge, and ignore these imaginary limits your "conscience" places on you. Also, something involving the letter "s" you should pay extra attention too.

I was really impressed by your interpretation, and though some of it is non-specific, most of it fits in some way. Hubby and I are generally a happy well-connected couple, but there may be some big changes coming as far as employment (both of us have turmoil at our current jobs), and lets face it, the state of the economy is not exactly inspiring at the moment.
