something in the water

Hi! Help me interpret this dream?! :dreams:

Wednesday morning 9/24/08 7am

My boyfriend and I are in the water swimming, feeling very relaxed and happy when I look out into the ocean and realize it's evening and pitch dark. Suddenly, I see a single fin only about 3 feet away from me. I kick my legs to turn around and they touch a bunch of seaweed. I want to call for my boyfriend but do not want to attract attention and I think he sees it. We both swim toward shore, but it is a struggle. I envision a white light around myself for protection. (This is very vivid and I am concentrating.) We get to our home, right on the shore but the water and the animal come with us, right into the house. I get scared of the animal because at first it looks like a shark, which is what I knew it was when I saw the fin. Then I relax because it looks like a dolphin. Then I get confused because it seems to be morphing into a purple dotted sea creature. Then it turns into a man. He asks to use the bathroom and I ask him to use the one outside because he is all wet. He is not intending on listening to me and picks up four of my candles. He says something about someone else coming. ("Ethan" - the character from Lost, who absolutely gives me the creeps.) Just as Ethan arrives, I wake up.

I tend to interpret water as emotions.

A rhetorical question – how is your relationship with your boyfriend?

And another question. Sharks – I assume you are scared of them…but what do they represent to you? You know, as in aspects of yourself maybe?

And same question applies to dolphins. Dolphins are traditionally a very spiritual animal, so deemed ‘safe’ I guess.

I think you ought to look at these various animals/creatures as aspects of yourself and revisit the dream. I reckon it’s a worthwhile exercise. :)

rhetorical question, i know, but i'll answer out loud anyway....

relationship is super good. we've been together for 5 years & i'm happy. to me in a dream, he would represent support, strength, courage, stability and security.

yes, water - emotion. i'm in agreement.

sharks - yes! scared!!! i think "predator" when i think of sharks. i am also highly fascinated by them, though. but mostly, to me they represent danger, someone or something lurking, waiting to get me, to hurt me. "ethan" would also represent these things.

dolphins are my favorite animal. beautiful, friendly, and yes, spiritual.

what is the seaweed? my thought would be an obstacle as they seemed to want to entangle me. they didn't though.

what are the candles? to me, candles are the bridge between this world and another. he was going to take them and use them for something.

here are my thoughts~
at first i thought it may be warning me to be careful with those around me and to watch for betrayal and danger. i have not completely abandoned that...
but now i think it's more about duality and the union and/or necessity of dualities, i.e. between good/evil, religion/spirituality, consciousness/unconsciousness ...
i feel like different parts of me are recognizing each other, maybe confronting each other and i'm hoping that it'll continue and that my waking self and higher self will unite.
i also feel like it's an introduction to lucid dreaming...

The boy's name Ethan \e-than\ is pronounced EE-than. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "firmness, steadfastness, constancy".

There may be a male in your life that you wish to be consistent. However in the emotions, or the water he is not - he is very changeable.

When he comes to land - or on the earth - maybe work, school etc - he is a man and he opens that door. He takes your light in the form of candles. And maybe in that emotion or ocean your guides are asking you to see - the - weed or seaweed.
