What does the symbol of the insect attaching itself to your back symbolize?

I began to dream about this image about ten years ago. The insect would act as a parasite drawing out my vital hormones. In the dream it stole the hormones that fueled my intellect. As a result the insect grew smarter as a grew dumber. I don't have dreams with this images anymore. Apart from my own dreams, I was curious, what do people think the image of insect attaching itself to one's back mean?

I find the image disturbing. As of late I have seen this image on a number of occasions on TV.

I saw it once on Doctor Who where the character Donna, the Doctor's companion, has an insect attach itself to her back. Somehow the insect tries to alter history by changing Donna's past decisions.

I recently noticed the DC comics hero Blue Beetle. The character recently was revamped. The hero is a teenager who has an alien scarab attach itself to his back. Somehow this insect gives him a number of superpowers in the form of a blue super powered armor created by the insect. He's a Spiderman meets Iron Man type hero.

Last but not least, in the most recent appearance, on the show Sanctuary on the Sci-Fi channel, the insect appeared as a scarab that attached itself to the inside of a persons upper spinal cord. In this case the insect was implanted against the victims will. The insect altered the persons genetic code, pumping hormones into the victims system as a result giving them immense strength. As a consequence the person ends up losing there free will.

Has anyone else dreamt about an insect attaching itself to their spine? And what does everyone think this image means?

It could mean that you are afraid of somebody "leeching" off of your emotions or skills?

That's an interesting interpretation. It does make sense.

      My interpretation

Possibly it could have something to do with a personal fear of commitment, and having sum one to carry through life, someone learning and teaching you. Someone you may possibly trust but dont know if you are ready for them to know you fully

That's a really interesting interpretation. Doug Hogan, I think you and oniman7 might be right. That actually that sounds like me a little. Before, I wasn't sure what oniman7 meant. I wasn't sure how to associate his interpretation with the image. You helped to clarify what he said.
