      Reoccurring nightmare.

For a number of years now the majority of my nightmares take place at my old house I no longer live in, and usually involve my dad being killed right at the beginning. They usually start out with my dad and I driving to the house, then getting attacked by strangers. My dad never makes it out, but I do.

Why do I keep having this nightmare over and over again? I rarely think about the house, but I do sometimes think about either of my parents dying. The last one I had was just dreadful. Easily the worst nightmare I've ever had.

Everytime before you sleep, chant to yourself that you will realize that you dream at the moment you come to the house. Say "I will realize that i am dreaming when my dad gets killed" at least 100 times, and mean it. Then you will get lucid, and the nightmare will most likely never appear again. The technique is called MILD.

Generally, if you want a dream interpretation, the best thing to do is post a whole dream with all remembered detail and feelings.

But in general, I think if you keep dreaming of someone, especially a parent, being killed either a.) you are very dependent on that person and fearful of losing their support in your life, or b.) you are subconsciously furious with that person, and while you'd never do them harm awake, you still act out the worst possible scenario in your sleep. I'd guess "a" is the most likely, but "b" should be considered too, as if there is anger, maybe it needs to be recognized and worked out, either by you by yourself, or with your father. It's also possible that an actual therapist might be helpful to mediate if that's the case.
