Huge house with a massive open grave in backyard

Hello. I just recently had this dream last night. It was so vivid, real and strange. I'll try to describe it best I can. I remember it starting off with me viewing this huge mansion (4 or 5 stories) from the back side (I never saw the front side), extremely high above from the sky. As if I were flying (typical), but I wasn't moving. After a few seconds, I was fully aware that I was dreaming and there was this Asian (maybe Chinese looking girl) up there with me. She was speaking to me in plain English and I was asking her all these questions. I got the feeling that she had been chased and possibly thrown into that freakishly huge hole. Hang on, I'll get back to her in a bit.

The house was painted red and the paint had faded greatly. I could tell it was a very old house. It had lots of windows on each floor and there was either no backdoor or it was covered up by plastic. Because I do remember seeing plastic covering up something that could have been the back door. Anyway, I'm sure they had good reason to seal off the backdoor because there was this INSANELY MASSIVE AND DEEP open grave right behind the house. That was the immediate impression I got when I saw it. I mean it was so huge, you could probably fit about 6 of those mansions in it! The hole was shaped like an uncurved letter C.

Back to this girl. There was something about her.. I don't know, it was as if I kinda knew her. She was very nice, had a good sense of humor and replied whenever I asked her a question. I don't think I asked how old she was but she looked to be anywhere from 18-25. I had so many questions to ask her..... I was actually writing down everything she was telling me in my dream on a piece of paper as she spoke. Don't ask where I got the paper or the pen because I don't know. Naturally, I forgot 99% of it. I remember asking for her name. I'm not 100% sure but I think she said it was Oyou or something very similar. I also asked her what year it was and she gave me a series of numbers... I looked at her and said "in English please" and she replied "it's the old language". Strangely, I knew what she meant. Their dating system was very different from ours. I didn't bother asking again.

It really sucks that I couldn't remember what I asked her. But I do remember the image of the house and that grave. Was it just another random dream or does it mean anything?

      Hi Tripwire

Various ways into this dream. What would make most sense to you?

      (1) The girl sounds like an archetypal character representing your unconscious. You don't say your sex. If you're male then I'd be thinking along the lines of Jung's "anima" archetype, which is a man's inner feminine "spirit", to use flowery language. If you're female then I'd be thinking along similar lines only probably more like an alternative you - a kind of shadow character.
(The name you wrote - Oyou - looks and sounds like "you").

      (2) The grave. It's unfilled. What's it for? Doesn't seem to be for you or indeed any human. What is it about your life that has you digging a massive grave?

      (3) The mansion. That can represent the body, but it could be anything. What is inside it? If that house did represent you, then in what way do you feel like you're old, red, patched up and full of windows?

      Let's see.

      1) I'm a guy.

2 & 3) Hmm..... Well, I'm 27, still living with my parents, I'm getting older, I don't have a girlfriend and I hate my current job. So, yea.. I'm pretty much digging a hole for myself. I feel as if I'm not getting anywhere in life. I do have plans to go to college this year if things work out.

Sounds like you're on the right track with getting some sense from this dream. And I would definitely look at the anima archetype. I looked around the web for something helpful (there's lots!) and this post on another forum struck me. You've discovered "her" in her first stage of development by the looks of things. In short, you have the chance to use your dreams and real life experiences to develop this part of you. Go for it.

(I found mine about 3 or 4 years ago when I started looking at dreams in depth. She was probably there al the time, but it took that long to know it.)
