      Greek Gods and Walmart

Okay, so. It started out pretty normal. I got a job at walmart and was going in for orientation. It was around dusk, and no one seemed to even be in the store. In fact, it looked almost like it was abandoned. For some reason, I shrugged it off. About ten minutes in to the orientation, I was super thirsty, so I leave the room and walk around, but I realize everything looks in even worse shape than I realized and some products even look like they have long since been expired. Like, it looks like some lights are falling off, the tiles have been broken, newspaper and ads litter the floor. There even seems to be holes in the ceiling. It is very desolate, not a friendly place. It gives me the creeps almost, but it isn't too bad.

I walk in a circle path about twice, and then decide to go back in to the room, as I approach the back hallway leading up to the entrance to the room, the dream suddenly stops.

I am now in some other place, and there is a classic greek fire pit. It is made of gold, but it is hard to tell, as the room is very dark. The fire, instead of normal fire, is green. Like, a green chemical flame. I am filled with awe. Any who, I see flashes of the faces of the Greek gods, but I do not actually see them. Just quick images of their faces. All I seem to remember are Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, though I am sure I must have seen some of the others. I hear a loud, deep voice ask me if I am willing. I say I am, and I sign this... thing? It looks like a long scroll. Anyway, the signature and original text, which I could not make out, on it disappears and instead is replaced by "I am Zeus, I am Zeus" next is "I am Hera, I am Hera" and the next is "I am Poseidon, I am Poseidon". It goes down the line, with each "I am" and name repeated like so. At this point, I feel very happy, and I know with conviction I am 'one' with them.

After that, I am back in the same place in my other dream, like nothing ever happened. That dream continues, but goes off on a tangent about my friend and this girl he likes, who is a very nice person and they get married and such. I also leave the walmart.

My friend in the dream is my best friend, Ben. He isn't in a relationship now, but I suppose him appearing in my dream that way expresses my wish for him to just be happy. Not sure about the walmart though. I can say that the original dream was interrupted almost like a channel changing on a tv. It just flipped.

      Currently, I am eighteen.

I have tried to figure out what this all might mean, but I just can't. I did start a new job recently, and am trying to go to college in the fall, so it probably pertains to that, but I honestly have no idea.

Well, the dream doesn't necissarily have to mean anything. I'd say that it might reflect changes in your life (getting a new job, looking forward to school). It doesn't sound like you're overly anxious to be stuck working in a Wal-Mart/other dead-end job, but that could factor in.

Have you read American Gods recently? Old world gods are stuck in the consumerist culture of an America that doesn't believe in them. I was just wondering because the similaries (gods in a Wal-Mart) struck a similar chord.

Also, chances are the interpretation you made yourself, about your friend, is dead on.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

The scene can suggest a situation in which you are doing a job on yourself, that is giving yourself a lot of emotional stress and strain pertaining to some employment. (got a job at Walmart) There may be a need to make an adjustment or adaptation to a new environment or situation. (in for orientation) This might include an adjustment to facts and principles – perhaps the idea that working does pay but perhaps as in the case of Walmart, not the highest pay or prestigious job. The abandoned appearance would indicate that you are not really ‘into’ adapting to this working situation and might be seeing it more from the perspective of quitting time. (around dusk).

You somehow manage to shrug off this lack of emotional support from within yourself but give little time to making the adjustment required (about 10 min. into the orientation) before a very great desire has you leaving it. (super thirsty, so I leave the room)[Could this suggest a desire for a higher salary?] Put very briefly, a working environment in which you find yourself simply does not look appealing in your own mind. (everything is in very bad condition) It gives you a bad feeling. (gives me the creeps) [Isn’t Walmart the store with the friendly greeters? Are you seeing a work situation realistically??] Trying to satisfy your desire – by leaving ? – leaves you going in circles getting nowhere and following a negative path. Twice around a circular path would also refer to a negative spiritual path. You may need to go back – or stick with the job (then decide to go back)– allowing the fantasy or imaginative thinking to stop. (the dream suddenly stops) [Do you have skills that could command a high pay?]

The change in place would suggest looking at a situation from a different perspective or in different terms. Fire in a fire pit can imply that there is a place or a time when irrational thinking (fire) could be seen as illuminating – as providing understanding. The gold fire pit can imply that the set-up has great value and may be God’s but the illumination provided is still leaving you ‘in the dark’, that is without knowledge or enlightenment. The illumination or understanding produced here is not natural, but more man-made. (a chemical fire) The green colour indicates worldly thinking and perhaps even envious thinking. What the irrational thinking appears to be illuminating is a self identity with the ‘gods’. (see flashes of the faces of the Greek gods)

Any god would represent an aspect of yourself giving you a self identity (faces) as being the ideal man; being someone that should be looked up to and respected. In your mind you could think that God (the voice without a body) has signed you up for godhood. (I sign … this thing) This idea appears confirmed by the fact that your signature is replaced by the names of several gods. A deep loud voice is not associated with God but rather with Satan and the Ego. You may get great pleasure thinking yourself ‘one’ with the gods. The repetition of “I am Zeus” etc. indicates a negative, wrong identification with the gods. The mention of Hera would also indicate that the association with a god is not completely logical. [Note how the “I AM” is how God in Scripture identifies Himself.] The Greek gods would especially imply that any association with godhood is more myth than reality.

Following this identification with gods you end up back in your ‘dream’ or fantasy. You could be going off on a tangent with a focus upon an aspect of yourself (the friend) – one reflecting an idea that you could see as working in your favour pertaining to a work situation. This idea has in your mind now become a belief. (he marries the girl) And with this belief in mind, you would leave your place of employment. [This dream seems to highlight having a ‘god complex’ and it can be suggesting you need an attitude adjustment.]

PS. All dreams have meaning in them but it requires skill with symbols to uncover the meaning.

It's hogwash to say that "All dreams have meaning" when it is clear we are using our own imagination to make up this meaning. Would you believe me if I said, "All dreams are real." I suspect not, so why should I believe they have derivative meaning.

Maybe BadChemistry was actually visited by gods. Maybe BadChemistry is of the greek gods. Really only BadChemistry can know for certain.

Really it's rather, "All dreams have meaning to you." that is if you want them to.
