Let That Be Your Last Lunch

OK, so I'm in this small restaurant -- with this African-Descended guy -- I think a darker-skinned version of this guy I know who's always hanging out with my roommate in our room -- and he says something like, "I always like to come here...it's so peaceful, I don't have to worry about being confronted..."

Suddenly, the restaurant owner comes in and starts yelling, "Get out of here n*****! We don't like your kind here!" and so forth.

Then my friend starts to get mad, and starts upturning tables and yelling and lashing out. I get upset, and try to stop him, "Don't do this! Calm down!" I say.

What does this all mean for me?

In order to even partially fathom the interpretation of this dream, who is this friend? How are you associated to this guy? What does he make you think/feel?

Erm, well, I'm not sure that he is a darker-skinned version of this guy, I just thought maybe he was, because he was tall and lanky and deep-voiced, but I dunno.

Anyway, to answer your question, this guy IRL is more of my roommate's friend to be honest, and they're very close, he's in m our room nearly 92% of the time, and has even slept over. He was raised a farm boy, and he's only at college for the football.

I think these dreams may symbolise how you feel about your friend. He may be doing or saying things that you do not like but resist complaining because of the obvious conflicts it would produce.

If you think it has nothing to do with your friend, then perhaps it represents how you feel you are saying things that he doesn't like but doesn't complain about.

      What do you think..?

Er...O...K. I guess maybe it really is that simple.

      Thanks.

So obviously that's not it then, right??

Let's try to go deeper into this and pull out the animus.

Perhaps this dream represents your feeling of a lost or conflicted father figure - but because of indirect conditions. Something is keeping him away from you that he and you are powerless to (perhaps work?). It may also represent how in social groups you tend to feel an inclining to hang out "with the boys" - that you may even desire it. If this interpretation is right, then you may also feel an exaggerated emotional attachment to your mother (talking to her more often lately..?) and an exenuated moral of caring - you may unconsciously seek out individuals feeling hurt or that you feel pity for and want to help them. Because of this, there may be residual self-esteem side effects - you feel that you put yourself out for others but get little grattitude, especially with boys.

What do you think..? Your feedback will only further help the interpretation..

Sorry, I didn't mean to put you off -- I guess I was just hoping for some vivid insight into the cultural aspects of it. I really appreciate your trying to help me.

      Hmmm...

Well, actually, I never felt far-flung from my father -- he was always the typical Alpha Male, the man of the household, old-school disciplinarian, etc. I kind of always felt like I wanted to get away from him at times. However, there were times when I spent time with him, and I guess I saw him as powerful and confident and successful and really admired him, and occasionally tried to emulate him in some respects. Even today, there are moments when I act more like a Tomboy.

My Mom and I are really close, I guess you could say -- she was always the one close girl friend I never had, 'cuz I was mostly a loner.

I always feel like I want to help people, that's true I guess -- sometimes I try and offer help even when I know that the person probably won't need it. My roommate for example, I'm always offering to help, even though she does most things better than I do. I just feel like I should do something. I have wanted to give blood for so long because I felt I was doing something important, and regarded it as a rite of passage.

      Hope this helps, thanks again!
