A dream that takes place in hell?

First let me give a little background information about me. I'm a 32yr old male, happily married, with an 8 year old son. I do not dream very often at night, but when I do it can be very lucid. I have a crazy work schedule and often nap in the middle of the day. During my naps I have false awakenings often.
My family life is going through a major change as we are about to adopt a 7yr old girl who is in foster care. My wife, who is a teacher, knows her from school and we have been anxious to gain custody, but the state's child care system has been taking their sweet time. I've been trying to seed my dreams for help with this decision.
For this dream it is important to know that my wife's father is deceased (2yrs before we started dating),her mother has been dating for over a year, and I'm a red sox fan while my wife's family root for the yankee's. We live in the Northeast. I awoke briefly and looked at the clock at 2:57a. When this dream was over it was 3:07a.

My wife, son and I are arriving at this southern looking home by a pond. There is snow on the ground but the temperature is mild and we are all wearing summer clothes. There is a wrap around porch and we are going to a party around back. The porch starts on the right side and wraps around. The left side of the porch is enclosed and the very front of the house is a porch-less plain facade. Sitting on the porch is My mother-in-laws boyfriend with his back with a tall glass of iced tea in hand. My mother-in-law is coming down the porch stairs waving her arms and trying to speak but she is mute. We are amused more than disturbed by her behavior. Suddenly all of her hair shoots off her head like a wig attached to a string( She doesn't wear one in reality ). There is no wind or likely cause. She runs to grab it puts it on her head embarrassed and whimpers away. We are mildly concerned but mostly relieved her boyfriend didn't see it happen.

We walk around the porch and see many people that are mingling but are looking for my wife's father. My wife and I look at each other and acknowledge with out saying that we are in a dream realm together. We know that this is going to be a special opportunity to see her father, and a rare chance for our son to see him. We find him quickly. He is younger than pictures that I have seen but we believe it's him right away. His eyes are convincingly proud, slightly teary, and he is happy to see us. I shake his hand and my wife kisses him hello. Our son climbs in his lap and he feels very comfortable with him.
My wife and I notice that he is dressed in all red sox clothes. She tugs on his sleeve and says, "What's this all about?" I joke and say, "I guess you can only buy yankee's garb down there!" my finger pointing down. All of a sudden there is a old man we do not recognize sitting next to him also in red sox gear. They turn to each other laugh and agree with my statement.
Next my dead father-in-law suggests we leave our son with him and go mingle in the party because there are some interesting people to meet. He gets up and we all have a group hug. Now that he is standing we realize that he is enormous; 8ft tall or more. Something seems off but my wife and I go away and talk. When we are far enough to talk privately she says that is not my dad. We both know something is now very wrong. We have no interest in meeting anyone at the party no matter how famous or informative they can be, and we decide to get our son and leave.

We go back to her father impostor and our son is gone. We ask where he is and he shrugs. We split up, I run through the house and she goes around the outside. I find a bunch of kids, in line, on the enclosed porch on the other side of the house. There is a fat woman hiding her face from me at the front of the line of kids by the door to the outside. My wife starts screaming loudly and emotionally distraught. She's yelling "Do something! No! No! Do something!" I look through the door outside and can see snowmobile tracks leading out to the pond. There are 6 people walking away from 2 large holes in the ice.

Full sprint towards the ice I'm running. The dream scape is all a red hue, has been but, I'm only realizing now. We've been tricked. As I run by the people on the ice they are all shivering and say to me it was too cold, and there was nothing they could do. None of them are children and they are all linked together by a rope. As I get closer to the hole my speed prevents me from stopping and I slide far by the opening. As I struggle to get to the opening I see bubbles rise to the surface and I go for that location. When I plunge below the surface I can see my son. He is fully aware and reaching out to me. I'm relieved because I'm confident that I am in time, and everything is going to be okay. The water is like bath water, almost hot. I have very little fear and plan on kicking some ass once I get my son out, but the aggressiveness of my swimming pulls out of my dream.


I'd love to hear some interpretations. I don't dream like this very often.
