Lauren and I are walking together, we are a long, long way from home. Miles, and miles, there are numerous towns between our current location and home. Despite this, we agree that we will walk the entirety of the way. [As an outside observer, my mind notes and observes the fact that Lauren detests walking, and would never agree to such an endeavour, should I have perhaps picked up on this? Especially considering the fact that, in my dream, I realised the absurdity of the matter? There are large open parklands, with a winding path that leads up a hill and into the streets of a suburb, but blocking our way to the parkland is two houses and their large (unfenced yards).
I suggest to Lauren that we cut through here, as we pass the yard of one house the owner is sitting stretched out in a deck chair and he shouts out to us, "Just what do you think you are doing?"
"We just thought to cut through here to the parks." I reply, to which he says, "And just come onto my land in the process? Well, you're halfway there now, go on, but don't let me see you around here again." Bemused, we continue on. We come to the park area and walk along the walking track through the trees. A group of joggers pass us by, and then we head up the hill past the houses. It is like one of those yawn inducing little country towns, there are but two or three little roads with houses on them, nothing more.
We walk through these roads, and then find ourselves on a stone road, which quickly becomes a dirt track in the middle of nowhere as we progress from the previous town to the next. It is a bit like the dry old bush out here, scraggly bushes, half dead old gum trees, a dilapidated old shed here and there, and lots of wild barren land. We near a section where we must cross a small creek. I am twenty or so metres in front of Lauren and as I turn to watch her catch up I notice a few pigs wondering around, then in a blur of movement I see what seems to be some kind of wild boar. It comes running towards me, and I run, I run to where the banks slope down to the creek, but it is too far to jump accross. There is a lot of piled up junk, old trees, rubbish, etc, though and I try to jump onto that so I can then jump to the other side. Unfortunately, I jump onto it and it starts to fall away, so I am forced to jump back onto land and face the boar.
I spot a bridge of somesort - actually, it's more a few planks of hastily thrown together bits of wood - I run accross it and then yell for Lauren to follow. The boar is raging behind her, giving chase, and she runs, I grab the plank of wood and get ready to throw it into the creek so that it can't follow us. Lauren runs, for a moment I think that she may not make it, but she hops off the end next to me, I throw the plank aside, and we are safe.
We resume walking.
Soon we find ourselves on what is now more of a road, albeit a skinny one. I get two messages on my phone from QK (my place of employment) alerting me to two new jobs I have. I note that they are actually in the next town that we will be passing through on the way home and decide that I can do them then to save coming out again. I tell Lauren she will need to do one for me and she says, "I'll do the one hour one."
"But," I say, "Wouldn't it be better if you do the 15 minute one? I have the training and experience, it might be better if I do the longer one." But she is adamant, and I am happy with that - less work for me.
We travel down the road a bit more and come to the town. Once again it is a little country town. A few roads, a few houses, farms, things like that. There is a picnic area with public facilities, toilets, washing machines, showers, etc. We walk to the public facilities and put some clothes in the washing machine. Looking out the window I get a fright and see my Mum and my Step-Dad (Laurie) accross the way at a bench in the park setting up a barbecue. For some reason I really do not want her knowing that I am there. So I tell Lauren to duck and I go around the corner to use the toilets. I go in, make my choice (it seems it's a rather large public toilet facility) and as I am halfway done a bunch of people come in, give me a fright and I shove my uh.. .bits, back into my pants, before I've finished and end up wetting myself.
I go back out and look out the window and see that Mum is currently nowhere to be seen. I beckon for Lauren to come with me, and we approach Laurie to ask what he and Mum are doing there. I then ask him how long he will be there for, and ask if he can wait around for me to do my jobs, and then drive us home with him. As I am walking off, I see something on the ground. Lauren see's it too and says, "What's that?" And stands on it.
It's a snake and it wriggles out from under her foot, about to bite her, then Laurie stands on it, just behind the head and says, "It's a snake, don't worry, I've got it." This same thing happens again, this time with a spider that I see on the table. From here to the next stage we find ourselves walking down the road away from the picnic area, down a road that has huge tree's growing over it, leaning over it, the tree's from each side connecting at the top so as to make a large tunnel.
We walk down here, and after a little while of walking the tunnel opens into an opened room. It has walls, but no roof. It is sort of like a fortified room on top of a mountain. There are shelves, and on the shelves are boxes for lots of classic computer games from the late eighties and early nineties. I run up and grab one, "Wow, I didn't know this was available anymore!" I grab more, "Or this! Or this! I haven't seen this one for ages!" Surely I should have taken this as some sort of sign? I run to another wall, and see more games, Lauren calls out and points out another game, "Hey, did you ever hear of this game?" There is a man behind a desk. No. It's a peculiar looking alien, but before I get a chance to go and purchase the games...
Heaps of people start filing into the room. Some appear to be friends (that I don't know in real life) of mine. Some are obviously enemies. They are all decked out like knights of some sort. Helmets, armour, swords. They fight, and fight, and fight, and soon the room is filled with unmoving bodies sprawled around. I draw my sword (hey, where did that come from?) and approach what would appear to be some sort of evil queen.
I wave my sword around at her obnoxiously, taunting her, "Well, come on then, are you going to kill me or not?" She strikes, and strikes, and strikes again. Each time I casually block her blows. I start to dance around comically, mocking her.
I laugh, grab Lauren's hand and run through the door. We are atop some great wall (think Great Wall of China as it sprawls throughout the countryside) that is high atop some mountains. We can see all the way into the distance, lush green grass, fields and forests all around. As well as masses of armies down below on the grounds, surrounding us, holding malicious intentions towards us. With a look behind us, we make a run for it, running the length of the wall.
Hoping we can get out of this one...
I suppose we did. Upon awaking, I realise that none of this was real...
