Jalexxi's Journal of Notable Nightly Narratives

Hm, if anyone can suggest anything that starts with an N to replace 'Happenings' with, please do. My attempts to completely alliterate the titel seem to have failed, and the thesaurus is of no help. Happenings is the best I could get, with the n in the third syllable. Not perfect, but it'll do.

So, recording everything I dream that seems notable to me here. Maybe it'll get my DR up a little, as I'm too lazy to keep a normal DJ and I come here every day anyway. Dreams that I've become lucid in at one point have blue titles. I enjoy comments, so don't be reluctant to post those. Have fun reading.

The Disastrous Bet and Walls of Graffiti
Atmosphere: A heavy gray, depressing atmosphere in the future timeframe, a blue, somewhat depressing atmosphere in the past timeframe.

This dream was quite peculiar in the sense that it had two different timeframes which it switched between at random points. In the first, I was at a party with people of about my age. In the second, there is an old man (not sure if this is me) looking at his past (the party) with deep regret. His source of regret was the bet that had been made.
The party itself was rather small, and it happened partially at a friend's house, and partially at my grandfather's house. The two somehow were connected into a single location, and I was usually at the exact point of the connection, looking into my friend's house at a certain angle, and into my grandfather's at another. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, getting drunk and laughing a lot. I was like I usually would have been at parties six months ago (a lot has changed since then), standing in a corner, unremarkable and observing. There was graffiti on some of the walls in my friend's house.
There were three, maybe four characters in this dream. There were a lot of people at the party, but they were faceless. The actual persons I remember being there were:
- A blond guy, which beared only some resemblance to people I know. He had little inhibitions, either because he'd been drinking too much, or because that was just his nature. I assume a little bit of both.
- The girl I am in love with and her boyfriend. They make random appearances in my dreams, and they did not influence the story in any way, I just remember them sitting in a room at some point. The girl was beckoning me over, but I ignored her.
- The old man which looks back on the party in the alternate timeframe. This might have been a representation of me, although I am uncertain of that, so I'm going to count him as a character anyway.
At the party, the blond guy somehow got himself involved in making a bet, of which the details were unknown. All I know is he got carried away. He ended up somehow making a bet that would cause some type of suffering to people in a certain street. This is what the old man was reminiscing about, all the while sighing and saying things like 'If only...". He was staring blankly out of the window at the said street most of the time, a street which looked eerily quiet. The dream is very vague on the details, I don't know what the bet was about, or what it's consequences were.

At some point, I woke up. I believe this was because the dream had made it's point, and there was nothing left to say. There was graffiti on one of the walls of my room, and the same blueish atmosphere as during the party was there as well. I was surprised to see the graffiti there. That was the basis for lucidity.
Surprised? There's something odd about that. I just woke up... This couldn't have been done while I was asleep, I should have seen it when I went to bed as well! Well, that's strange. I should do an RC.
I looked at my hands, on which I had six fingers. Cue lucidity. My first thought was: "Well, now you've done it. That will kill the dream for sure.". I looked at my alarm clock to do a second RC, as I usually do them in pairs. The time actually remained pretty consistent, it took 22:22 (or 22:23, not completely sure) as it's starting point, and only varied by a few minutes. I did the RC a couple of times, and the only other time I'm sure I saw was 22:30. I was pretty intruiged that it was so accurate. Suddenly, as I wanted to look at the clock again, my vision started to get really blurry really fast. The dream was ending spontaneously, like all my lucids do. I wanted to stop it, so I opened my eyes really wide and tried to focus on what I could see. That stopped the dream from getting any blurrier for maybe a second, but after that it just continued on and I woke up for real.

I'm not really sure what to make of the non-lucid part. In the dream, I am an observer to an event that is going to cause some major unhappiness to at least one person in the future. I also see this person as he is reminiscing these events, it's possible I am seeing his memories. I don't know if there is any meaning in this, but if anybody does see some symbolism or meaning, I'd like to hear.
For the lucid part, I'm getting more and more familiar with the premature ending of all my lucids. What this dream seemed to suggest was that it is something (partially) out of my control. When I became lucid, I expected the dream to end quickly. If the endings are under my control, I would think my dream would start to degrade right after that thought. But when nothing happened, I just continued RC'ing, without the thought of the dream ending in my mind. But right on cue, it did begin to fade, and it actually caught me by surprise. I was busy with other things at that moment. All in all, I'm still nowhere near a solution, but each time I get lucid, I learn a little more. I just hope I can break through the 15-second barrier soon.

Nightmares is a little too dark for my taste, plus 'Notable Nightly Nightmares' looks (sounds?) somewhat weird. 'Notable Nightmares' is better, but I really don't want to give the impression my journal is all about nightmares, in fact, I hope to do quite the opposite.

Anime-style
Atmosphere: Can't remember.

Don't you just hate it when all you remember about a dream is that you had it and should have remembered it? Anyway, all I know is that there was a definite anime-like style in there. I daydreamed something in the same type of style, and that was pretty awesome, so I'm bummed out I can't remember more of this.

Amsterdam
Atmosphere: None.

I remember only a bit of this dream. It somehow involved my aunt, my grandmother, and model airplanes. However, I do remember the part where I became lucid in detail. I, my aunt, and my grandmother were walking in Amsterdam, and I was a little ahead, and on the other side of the road. Suddenly they turned a corner, into some sort of tunnel of which the exit was visible. They should have come out, but they didn't. They were just gone. I thought: "Well, what am I supposed to do? Continue this dream on my own?" I somehow knew it was a dream, and decided to take action, because standing on a empty street on your own was boring.
I flew up into the air about fifteen meters, then I stopped and hovered there. I looked over all the houses I could see, and just waited for something to happen to my vision. I get the sensation of the dream ending, but I am expecting it, and I try to make my vision stay the same. It actually works, but the dream is still ending. My vision remains clear untill the end of the dream, but it did not prevent the dream ending.

Usually my dream endings don't last long enough for me to do anything, but I apparently have a second or two when I am expecting it. I'll use those seconds to attempt a spin next time.

It was a good night for dreaming, apparently! Can't remember the details for most of these dreams, but I did remember what each and every one was about.

[SIZE=2]Away for the weekend
I was on holiday for the weekend with a friends of mine (I think there were ten or so). We were in a cabin of sorts. I can\'t remember what we did, only that I ended up in bed with a girl. Nothing sexual happened, though, we just cuddled and hugged a bit. One of the nicer dreams I\'ve had in a while.

[size=18]Classroom D&D
I was in a classroom with lots of other people (roughly the same people as in the weekend dream). There were two people in front of the class, they were 18 or so. One was on the side, not doing much, but the other was prominently present, awnsering questions and lecturing about his D&D houserules. I guess everyone in the class was making characters, and the guy in front of the class was the GM, though I can\'t be sure. The GM\'s houserules were ludicrous, and eventually everyone stopped cooperating and the GM was replaced by two people who started rapping in front of the class. It was quite weird.

[size=18]Boots and Bob-ombs
I was at the shoreline of a rather large lake, and lots of people were wearing boots and standing in the water. A friend of mine handed me some boots to wear, and I entered the water wearing them. But as soon as I did, they were sucked off my feet and into the lake. My friend had a disappointed look on his face, saying that the boots were quite valuable to him. So I swam after them, and my friend followed me. The boots were being sucked towards black holes in the bottom of the lake, and I managed to grab them right before they got sucked in. We were on the other side of the lake now, though, so my friend used a Bob-omb to launch us back. Bob-ombs are these little fellas:

The Bob-omb was on a heightened platform just off the shore, and on the edge of an invisible wall (the dream had turned completely Super Mario 64 style, the invisible wall was the edge of the map). We were launched up there, and the Bob-omb kicked us straight up in the air. He was supposed to knock us back to the other side of the lake with a follow-up kick, but he aimed too high and we ended up bouncing between the platform and invisible wall, and it all was really chaotic and fast, and before I know it we were suddenly playing Mario Football! It was still very chaotic and looking at the game was extremely funny, but I thought to myself that this was pretty weird, and I should do an RC. Though I was reluctant to take my eyes off the screen where all the action was, I looked at my hands, and I think I had seven fingers. Anyway, that triggered lucidity, and by now, I was in my brother\'s room. I heard him coming down the hallway, and I began to move to the door to meet up with him. Sadly, though, the dream ended before I could even reach the door.

The Hypno-book and Physics Poetry
I had this small book of about three inches by three inches in my hands. I don't know where or how I had gotten it, but I opened it and started reading. It had drawings and one line of text on each page, but I only saw a page or three before I suddenly found myself in a bedroom. I wasn't lucid, but I my dream self thought this was a dream. In the bedroom with me was a sleeping, scarcely-clad girl with the covers only partially over her. Hormones instantly took over, and I started touching her. She woke up after a while, but seemed extremely uninterested in me. I tried to kiss her, but she was quite unresponsive and did not want to kiss me back. After this, the scene changed back, and I had the book in my hands again, at the last page, and I was convinced I had just done a WILD somehow. I told a friend of mine, who took me to the living room of the house we were in. There were roughly ten people there, and they were talking about the book. It seems that the book hypnotized you into a sort of dreamlike state while you were reading through it. It seems that the majority of the pages were just blank, only a few in at the beginning and end actually had text and drawings. The subject of conversation somehow changed into poetry, and one person mentioned he did write poetry from time to time. Then another one said that he wrote physics poetry, poetry using formulas and terminology from physics. Everyone seemed to think that was dumb, but I thought it was awesome and said so.

Phew. That's all. Four dreams in one night. They all share a common theme, though, they involve gatherings of people. I am thinking my dreamsign may be social gatherings. I will look out for it in my dreams, see if it is indeed a recurring theme.

Just before you could reach the door? LOL dreams tend to do that.

Hi Jalexxi, nice journal. Did you try Notable Nightly Narrative? Can you even change the name of the journals? ~Peace!
Do you seriously think that blood is the only thing in this world that is colored red?

Hey Genjyo!
Yep, I have serious LD endurance problems, all my LD's end within 15 seconds of becoming lucid, usually right after I have initiated my first action (in this case, moving). Though there have been cases where I could complete a full move to a new location, that doesn't happen often, unfortunately.

Narrative is a great suggestion! I don't know if you can change the names of the journals, but I don't see why you would not be able to. I'll try right now.
Edit: Namechange succesful.

So, I've taken it a little easier with my LD'ing lately, but now I'm back in buisness. My problem of my lucids lasting no longer then 15 seconds, is solved. Apparently, I actually can become lucid enough to end the dream, time after time. Once I stopped myself from thinking too much in a dream, suddenly my time shot up to multiple minutes. Here's the thing, though. I now have problems with losing lucidity, vague lucidity, and not being able to remember lucids. It seems I have to find the middle road between too much lucidity and too little. Anyway, back to dream journalling, which is now actually useful since I do have to make an effort to remember my lucids...

Today I did have a lucid. It was very vague, I had almost no control and it's hard to remember. I know that it included:
- Sleeping over at a friend's place
- Going to the swimming pool and having to buy swimming trunks for that occasion
- A rabbit sandwich, which tasted like curry.
- Walking in the desert. This is the most lucid part, and it felt very peaceful to walk there. There was a village of sorts, but there was nobody in sight. All I knew is I wanted to just keep walking, but I was waking up. I tried to rub my hands, but to no avail.

Well, more tomorrow, hopefully.
