      My Third Flight

Hey all, first time poster here. My best friend Greg, Oneironaut, has been trying to get me on DV for some time now. I finally broke after him poking and proding after about a year! He'll be giddy as a pig in ____ when he see's I've got a post up lol. I find that I have lucid dreams every now and again. I've never "learned" anything about lucid dreaming, nor have I ever sought the knowledge. I enjoy dreaming and I like being powerless to my dreams for later interpretation (or just a good story to which I don't know the ending). However, I am fascinated by flight within my dreams (something of which I have not been incredibly successful at doing). After having a few conversations with Greg about lucid flight, I have been able to do it twice now. The first was simply getting off of the ground and then instantly losing lucidity. The second I learned about clearing my mind and focus which allowed more movement, for a limited time. The third event, and by far the best, happened a few minutes ago..

      Enjoy!

The setting was a rooftop in England. Reminds me something of Mary Poppins and the chimney sweep that looks from rooftop to rooftop. Now that I think about it, it probably relates to my time living in New Orleans where there is great architecture. There was a gathering of about four of us, all new acquaintances, on the roof patio. Here there was a table and we were having a discussion of how the chairs should be arranged (as the space on the rooftop was limited and there was no place to put a fourth chair, since the table was along the ledge). During this discussion the entire setting is very detailed and realistic, but not lucid. The conversation is a fun one amidst the group. One of those moments where everyone is chiming in and making jokes. We are all on the same page of foolishness. Suddenly I find myself detering from the conversation and, while standing on a ledge, do a 180 degree 'glide'. Pretty much turning my body around while not moving a single muscle, like being on a revolving table. I don't think anything of this (even though it is physically impossible - still no lucidity). Well, someone else took notice and gave me a grin stating, "What was that? (lucidity approaching&#33

I'm now facing the group, where before I was facing the (city?) outside of the rooftop. Everyone is kind of looking at me as if I've finally joined the group and realized what I do. They now look at me questioningly as if to say "Well what do you think about that little turn you just did?" It was apparent that they knew this ability was dorment inside of all of us. Instead of feeding these hungry to know minds, I simply smile as if to say "You haven't seen anything". With a smirk I close my eyes, concentrate, and lower my body into a lying position from standing up all the while remaining stiff as a board (think an upright door that is taken hold by gravity and simply falls over). At this moment, I am now floating with my backside toward the earth... and fall into complete lucidity. I think I began to yell (sing?) as I raise myself higher. When I felt myself breaking the wind around me faster, and faster now, I finally open my eyes and ascend!

To my amazement, I had complete control of the flight. There were no black or dark "spots" (which seem to appear in my lucidity as if my mind cannot generate the entire surroundings fast enough with complete detail). Instead of looking back downward to the shrinking city below, I fixated my attention to the sky above. The day was a greyish sunny day with not a cloud in site. The higher I flew, the more details in the stars I began to see. When the sky was no longer blue, but turning black, I realized there was still much I wanted to do on Earth before traveling elsewhere. I stopped and floated there very super sayin-ish and set my sites on the planet below. Wish a smile, I descended!

What I found to be incredible from this flight in comparison to my other two lucid flights, was my complete control. I'm glad I realized this and experimented. I flew at different speeds and saw what the effects of my surroundings looked like. The wind felt different at various speeds also (not surprisingly, but a little considering your mind is creating the wind effect). I didn't necesarrily perform air "tricks", but I did flip upside down and look down at the earth, and basically turned in whichever direction I wanted (like swimming under water). After flying about and testing this new 'control' I descended to a random location. I found myself amidst a bunch of tall and skinny pine needle tree's, standing in a field of low cut grass littered with dead pine needles everywhere (very common here in Florida). It actually reminds of a place Greg and I used to play at as kids called Sun Lake (but without all those apartments lol)

Uneasiness krept in for a moment as I realized I was in no particlar place and it was kind of boring. I either flew, (or glided?) and was now standing on the rim of an airport. Strange now that I think of it. Did I lose lucidity for a moment and simply change my surroundings? I remember actually traveling forward and out of those tree's and in to the airport, but I don't remember the the means of travel.

Ah, the airport. My favorite part! So here I find myself in a huge international airport. I'm floating along the edge of the main strip. I don't even look at either ends to see if a plane is coming (as I was lucid and was not the slightest bit scared of death or being pummeled). Instead I gaze out along the far field and was lost in thought for a moment thinking to myself "This is going to be the great" Now I set my attention on the far end of the runway and see two planes lined up. One a smaller plane, maybe a private jet?, and the other a monsterous 747 that has a wingspan that could swallow several of the smaller planes and then some! I fly into the middle of the runway, wanting to simply to play in the paths of these planes. Not to obstruct their path, but more so to get as close as possible as they fly. I laughed to myself as I thought of what the pilots reaction was going to be. The smaller plane took off, and to my disappointment, gained speed and took flight before reaching me. Not going to miss my chance with this 747, I begin flying toward it. The huge plane began to accelerate and we now traveled toward each other. Realizing the plane was now accelerating faster, I slowed to a stop. As soon as I realized I was in the plane's path I flew to the edge and approximated where I should be without getting hit. The plane grew larger and larger to the point where I couldn't see one end from another. As the enormous wing rushed passed me at incredible speed I thought, "I wonder what kind of wind force I'm going to feel by being so close?" and without missing a beat a SURGE of wind took hold of me and blew me about half a football field down the runway. "Looks like a fun game you have there!" As I turn my head, unknowingly on the ground now, and see an old lady standing there wearing pink clothing. I smile at her and speak something along the lines of You don't know the half of it. I look to the sky and suddenly ... realize I'm losing my ability. With concentration I think of how superman takes flight, and with that, ascend into the air. I flew upward and out of the airport. Yet to no avail I drastically descended and curved downward as if a rocket were to run out of fuel. I landed in a wide open and barren field that is completely encircled in large tree's along the far rim. When I land I slowly fell to my knee's. Even though I told myself I wanted to fly, I felt powerless and continued to fall forward. As my head fell, the ground rapidly approaching, my eyes closed and I felt lucidity escaping me. My head, instead of slamming into the hard earth, fell into a soft surface (like mud). There I lay in an open field, powerless, eyes closed, face down in some mud... so comfortable now... as I fall into... another dream...... lucidless.
