No posts in a while, got back from vacation last week and since that time I have come even closer to falling into a lucid dream. My newest technique is to lie perfectly still on my back, arms at my side, with my head tilted slightly to the side to prevent me from having to swallow every few minutes which seems to keep my body awake. While laying perfectly still and controlling my breathing, I focus very intensely on past memories. I can tell there is something going on, as if my body senses that I am going deep into my subconscious and believes my mind to be asleep. I have the most luck with remembering the exact structural layout of buildings such as my various elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as the homes I have lived in. While focusing on these my mind wanders a bit, but it is a controlled wandering that is directly related to the building or place I am thinking about.
So far, each night I have done this I could feel my body going weightless and I feel as if I am floating. After a few minutes of this I feel my body go 'numb', and it feels like I am shaking or vibrating. This usually lasts for several more minutes, and I know this is the last stage before my body falls completely asleep.
After getting to this point one of two things has happened each night, either 1) my girlfriend and the poodle come into the room and it becomes very difficult to remain focused or my body comes back to life or 2) after what seems like 30 minutes I try to "step into my dream" by sitting up, hoping I will sit up into the dream world, only to wake myself up by actually sitting up in my bed.
I think the next step is to continue with this process, but either try to get my body to fall asleep faster so as to not be disturbed, or possibly go to bed a bit earlier or later. Once I overcome this I will look into new ways of "stepping into" the dream world, or maybe even just remaining in the vibration stage until something else happens.
