DYING in a dream.....
I dreampt a couple of times that I died... I experienced the floating toward a bright light, intense happiness, seeing my body below, the whole shebang!
And then I told my friends this, and they didn't believe me because they were convinced that if you died in a dream, you died in real life.
Which I thought was ridiculous, since I was standing there talking to them, fully alive.
Any thoughts on this?

SHOOT, I just realized that I posted this in the wrong thread. Sorry!! Won't do it again. Still, I'd love some replies.

Commonly dying in a dream simply represents "going away". Sigmund Freud explains this well in "The Interpretation of Dreams" in the Material and Sources of Dreams - when we are children (and you can see this in other children) thinking of death is usually just associated with "gone away" instead of the rotting of the corpse or beliefs in the afterlife.
Although, the light and seeing your body, etc. A little different, of course. It could mean that you are looking at yourself from a 3rd perspective, taking a step back and evaluating yourself, and thinking that you wish you would do something different or ridiculing yourself for missing out on a certain action, etc.
I would say that it might mean you want to escape from stressful problems, but you look back on yourself after dying.. so to me, the most dejectful interpretation would be that you feel you are wasting your life.
What empathy did you get from this dream? How did it make you feel?

Hand your friends' ass's back to them with this piece of logic- If somebody died in a dream and then died in real life, how would they tell people that they died in a dream and then died in real life? If they still argue with you, kick 'em in the head and repeat your argument.

lol Death-Wuad, good point and good advice. Will do! :D
O'nus, that makes a lot of sense. In the dream I just felt happiness, and when I woke up I think I felt kind of shocked and a bit confused, but not frightened or anything. But then again, I had this dream a long time before I started recording them, so I can't be certain. But it was one of those dreams that you can't forget, no matter what.

Hmm, funny. I CAN'T die in any of my dreams. Like I said in another thread, I've been hit by speeding cars, attacked by 30 foot crocs, drowned in oceans, fallen off buildings. It just doesn't phase me. It's like I'm . . . immortal. :|

I've also died many times in dreams, and usually woke up thinking, "That was bad-ass!" I think it depends mainly on how you think about death.
