      Dream on, Devon!

      Key:
      - regular dreams and narration
      - lucids
      - commentary

      November 20th, 2007

I had my first (real) lucid dream experience this morning! I woke up around 4:30 (I think) and attempted to do a WILD by visualizing numbers as I counted them and thought "I'm dreaming" (which sometimes turned into "I"m singing" as I lost consciousness). The WILD attempt seemed to fail, and I got uncomfortable, so I turned over onto my side and decided to fall asleep.. but the sleep paralysis was still there, so I thought, what the heck, I'll just see what happens. It was now 5:00 (I think, waking memories aren't as solid anymore) and I just sat in bed, feeling myself fall asleep.

I had a dream about sitting in a room in school with my band director and some other kids and being announced 1st chair euphonium. I don't play euphonium, and George Bush was announced 2nd chair, and he was a black kid with short hair, but I think I rationalized this by saying that it was a joke. These results were announced on a t.v., so I guess I thought it was KDGN, the announcement show our school puts on.

Then we walked to the cafeteria while I talked to a girl named H.L. who plays bari sax and suggested to her that she must sound really good now that she was practicing so much, to which she played a note that I thought at the time was unremarkable sounding. I asked her something to the effect of, "So I guess they're going to lecture us on drugs or something" and I can't remember her response. The halls looked like my middle school (though I'm in high school now) So, in the cafeteria, my friend E.P. and some other people appeared and we figured out that there was a game activity! You sat down at a table to play the board game that had been set out. First my friends couldn't decide. They sat down at a table with the game Sorry and then moved to the table that had bingo, which I thought would be boring, so we then moved to a table with crossword puzzles, which made me happy. My friend T.T. was given a word games sheet that I thought looked lame. I got a crossword that didn't look very fun, but funner than the last one. Some of the words were already filled in on mine, so I had to erase them.

I was now on a bike trying to figure out this word, riding along a darkened road with a friend, maybe L.C., but not sure. I soon forgot even what the clue was that I was trying to figure out and my friend dissapeared, I became scared because I couldn't remember the clue for the crossword and because there was an ominous wood near. I was sort of being pulled toward the woods, and I could hear howling.[COLOR="DarkRed"] At this point, I forgot that I had previously been dreaming and assumed that I was still conscious. Before my first dream, I had been "observing" myself fall asleep and when I started this segment of the dream, I assumed that the dream was materializing. I could feel myself walking.. After hearing howling noises, I decided to get on a bike, because I was scared. One sort of appeared underneath me (I couldn't see anything) and I could feel myself peddle it. It was very hard to peddle. Somewhere in there I began to see again, and I was in a neighborhood with the woods beside it.

I abandoned the bike because it was hard to peddle and walked down the road. I then tried a nose-pinch reality check and was sort of amused because while I had my nose pinched, the breath felt just like I didn't! I suddenly remembered that I was scared, and walked to a one-story house and jumped on the roof when I realized that something was chasing me. It was a little jaguar or cougar, but I was still scared, so I tried to shoot it with a conjured bow (I just made the bow draw-back motion, but nothing happened) and a spear. I'm don't think the jaguar died, but then I decided I could get away by teleporting, and I did so, to a room I visualized in London. There was a bed on one wall and a door that was through a little hallway past the door.

It was dark in the room (dagnabit) and I couldn't see well, so I drew the curtains and looked out on a city that looked distantly like New York City (I observed this in the dream) and I decided that it was a bad representation and I'd have to work on that. I then decided to try to get the lights on, because I was sort of scared again, tried several times (with a light switch by the window), even vocalizing it. It didn't work, so I decided to go out the window. I didn't do a reality check before doing so, (and I even thought during the dream, Oh, what the heck!) and jumped out the window. (I don't remember the room having a balcony, or the window having glass)

I was sort of afraid to fly, so I jumped down to where I was hanging on the balcony below. I got down about 7 floors from a room that had initially seemed to be about 20 stories high. I can't remember everything from this point. I felt the dream slipping a little, and went over to grab a thin tree (the kind with the flaky bark and little white spots on it from you-don't-even-want-to-know-what) and closed my eyes and hugged it, then rubbed my hands up and down the bark.

I felt stable after that, and walked down a brick path in a courtyard-type thing, where there were suddenly people. (The courtyard was connected to the building I had come out of, and had also not previously been there.) I looked at my hands and saw white spots (I assumed from rubbing my hands on the tree), and decided to ask a man about them. I asked something like, "Are they dangerous?" to which he replied "No, mine came off in a couple of (not sure)" Then I said, "Thank you, you're very nice" and he walked away and mumbled "you're nice, too". I could suddenly feel the position I was sitting in bed and tried to stablize it by laying down on the brick path on my back and feeling the contours,
but I was too late, and I woke up. After a couple of seconds, I did a nose-pinch reality check and then decided to post.

All in all, I felt that it was pretty long for my first lucid dream, (about 10 minutes long). Some things I was concerned about were:
      - seemed like I couldn't see very well, and I don't remember images well
      - I couldn't remember the feeling of walking
      - I didn't have the common sense to just sit down and calm myself down
      - I was afraid!?!? of little jaguars and flying!
      - After the fact, it seems much less real, and some memories, such as feelings are lost

      Plusses:
      - it was really long for a first LD
      - I did feel some things very distinctly, such as peddling my bike
      - I remembered about 90%
      - I teleported pretty succesfully (even the room I was visualizing came out sort of right)
      - I talked to a DC, and remembered dialogue
      - remembered to do RCs and stabilizing techniques (one of which was successful)
      - As I was in the dream, it felt very real

      YES!
      Some questions:
Will I have more... power over myself (i.e. fears, rationality, actions) with practice?
Will I feel more normal sensations such as walking?
Will I be able to control the lighting a little better? I don't like dark dreams

Nice lucid, Yabber, that's a good start for posting here!

I'm also new to lucid dreaming and I have the same experiences as you described. I've had only 6 LD's (of which 5 were very short) and sometimes my vision was clear, while in others it was very difficult to see things. Control and other improvement will come with practise.

Hmm, it was not real of course... but you can try to increase the memory to write down as much as possible as soon as possible after you woke up.

All very good for one of your first lucids! Sounds like you did a lot more than me already!

You probably will, after some more experiences and more practise, but I'll leave that to the more advanced lucid dreamers

Good luck and enjoy your dreams

22nd November 2007 Halftime Show and Camp Carter

I was at a stadium (Texas Stadium?) where the Dragons where playing the Keller Indians. The stadium was huge, but looked flat - the opposite end of the stadium looked closer than it should have because it was dark and it was a dream. There was a large screen (for replays) and a HUGE orange teepee on the field with the logo of the Texas Longhorns repeated vertically. I was observing from seats in the corner of an inzone.

During halftime (the game didn't occur, but it was obviously halftime) the band was marching and the show had been changed (I guess while I was on Thanksgiving Break and missed the game, although that game happened Nov. 23). I had trouble keeping up with everyone else. Then we ran the show again, and Charlotte helped me keep up.

Now everyone sat down in rows and went to sleep in odd positions. I was awoken with a kick in the butt from my uncle D. Now I believed that I was at Camp Carter. Everyone got up to take a shower and I reserved a spot in line with my friend L.C. behind me. I had forgotten my shampoo, though, so L. saved my place in line and I ran to my bag to retrieve my shampoo from a video game type menu. When I got back, L. was already in the shower, which was kind of like a bathroom stall. I offered her some shampoo from under the door and felt the water. It felt real, and warm. Then I woke up.

      28th November 2007

I dreamt that my parents got divorced, and that's all I remember.

      29th November 2007 Bloody Feet

I believe this dream was a continuation of last night's My dad wouldn't talk to anyone because he had been "enlightened" by reading a ton of books. He then said, "I'm glad I'm divorcing that *****." Again, refer to the 28th. I then had an epiphany -that's why he had been making all those trips to Barnes & Noble - to get those books. This portion of the dream felt very long and emotionally charged, so the amount of details aren't really proportional to the rest.

In the same dream, my dad drove E. and me to Japan for a college orientation. When I looked out the window to the car next to us, there were three Japanese people in it. One was Yuta from the Sister Cities Trip. The "car" they were in was more like a cart or a wagon - four wheels with a board on top. We arrived at the orientation and E. left the dream. I was wearing a trench coat and my pockets were full of stuff, so I unloaded the stuff into another trench coat that was hanging on a hat rack. My dad had gone ahead into the orientation room.

I walked into the foyer of the orientation room to find a bunch of Japanese sitting Indian-style in rows without shoes on. I must have forgotten about the house slippers. There were several people in the first couple of rows wearing black strapped high-heels. I took off my shoes and socks to discover that each foot was wrapped in a clear Saran wrap-type material (cellophane?). They were bandaged because they were very bloody. The blood didn't look congealed - it looked like I had either wrapped them while they were still bleeding heavily, or like I had wrapped them before they started bleeding. But yes, there was blood everywhere, and it was smeared all over the cellophane. Holding the bandage thing together where thin adhesive strips of paper with Japanese prayers written vertically on them in black ink. The papers were going in all directions and looked like a tape job I would do, so that the cellophane would definitely not come apart.

A lady was waiting for me to move so she could leave at the door to the orientation room. I asked her if I needed to tale off the bandages to enter the room (though I didn't want to because the blood would be messy). She initially spoke little English, but told me that I should unwrap the cellophane and then reseal the bandage using the prayers from the inside. (i.e. place tape it from the inside which would obviously be really hard!) She then told me that she had to go home because her two daughters were sick. I offered to take her manual labor shift. After I moved and she left, I started to unwrap the bandage without ripping the prayers. Once I opened the left foot bandage, my foot didn't look that bloody. After one bandage, I decided that it wasn't worth the time and effort to rewrap both of my feet and started to walk into the orientation room.

I woke up and thought that my feet were stuck to the floor with blood, but they were just stuck together.

Analysis: I hope this doesn't reveal any stereotypes I have about Japanese. (the manual labor lady and the people in a cart) I think that these ideas were probably stemmed from our study of Japan in World History. The whole foot wrap thing is really weird, though, and I have no idea what to think of it.

      30th November 2007

I don't remember most of the beginning of this dream, but I was sitting in a bed, and when I put my chin down on my chest, I felt a HUGE electric shock. I've been shocked before, but this was about 20 times as strong and painful. I assumed that touching my chest with my chin had connected the sides of my body, completing an electric circuit, (haha ) but I couldn't lift my head to stop it. When I finally did, I deduced that the source of power for the shock was a hypnotizing machine sitting to the left of the bed. I think this machine had something to do with lucid dreaming.

Sometime later in the same dream, I was trying to get in a car to escape from some bad people. When I tried to get into the passenger seat, I collapsed to the ground and very much felt the force pinning me to the ground. First I thought it was gravity, but when nothing else around me was affected, I thought that it must be sleep paralysis caused by the hypnosis machine! I asked the driver to help me up (and for some reason I thought I was in the driver's seat, and so) I yelled that I couldn't drive because I was paralyzed, collapsed on the seat. Then I realized that I was in the passenger seat. We drove very fast and as we drove, it came to me that we were going to get me healed by the doctor that made the hypnosis machine. I entertained the possibility that he was working against us, but dismissed it. I also knew that I had had this dream before, even though I didn't realize I was dreaming, and that the doctor would be dead before we got to him.

We arrived at a book store, and I walked in with E. and three small children, one of whom was my cousin, S. There were three or four "bad guys" in the store. One was the sales clerk, a black lady who looked like this actress from some t.v. show. The bad guys (except the clerk) knew our names and faces, but we managed to avoid their eyes. I walked in and the children and E. went to the kids section. There was a sign on a post next to the elevator that said "Children's" with an arrow pointing downward. So I walked to the kids and beckoned them to the downstairs children's section even though I knew the sign was a fake, since the children's section was obviously on the ground floor. The clerk told us that the children's section had been moved to this floor, so I made a break for the elevator. E. came seconds later.

We got to the top floor of this building, which must have also been some sort of apartment complex. Before the elevator left, I pressed all the call buttons. The floor was U shaped (except angular). We stepped out of the elevator one of the ends of the U and stepped into the room just down the hall and across from it, which was unlocked, like every door on this floor. There was an unopened briefcase on the floor (a case for poker chips?) . The room across from that one had a poker table in it. I ran to the other side of the U and into the room that corresponded with the second room we entered without E., who was acting like a video game side-kick who gets stuck in doorways when they try to follow you. The door was ajar, and the briefcase inside was open. The window was broken or open and papers were swirling everywhere. Of course, the doctor had been killed already. The bad guys and the bad clerk came up through another elevator on the other end of the U. All of this part of the dream happened really fast. The bad guys (headed by the clerk) standing in the elevator with their hair blowing in the wind were a very dramatic scene. Eric ran through another door right in front of the bad guys. I realized in horror that Eric and I would be killed and the doctor had already been killed. The dream ended.

Comments: Too bad I didn't catch all those cues to lucid dreaming.

      2nd December 2007

I remembered about four dreams from last night that seemed to be separate, but were interwoven. I don't remember them completely, but one involved a high-tech mansion in Siberia (or somewhere cold) that my family had acquired. I was ashamed of it because I hate excess. Another of them invovled my mom, myself, and someone trying to escape from my dad in an antique car that I filled with gasoline from a pen's ink tube. We ran out of gas part-way through our escape and had to push the car, but we got it going pretty fast. I think I was in the front passenger side. As we neared a gas station, we saw my dad coming near in our Odyssey. We stopped at the station to fill up, wondering if this car could use modern gasoline. We realized that my dad could track us with our credit card use, and the dream ended. In reality, there is no gas station where we appeared to be in the dream.

Commentary: I don't know why my dad keeps showing up as a bad guy in my dreams... :S

      3rd December 2007

I was at a party of about 200-300 people standing idly when someone announced that my friend Z had tickets to a Harry Potter afterparty. (haha) About 10 people and I wanted to go, including MM. We went in a back entrance to this small club. There were masses of fans at the front entrance. We walked along a curved, fenced pathway to the back entrance, where we were given black dresses and gloves. I put my dress on over my green UIL shirt because we were outside. There wasn't a full pair of gloves left for me, though. The belt was like a thin white ribbon. Inside the club, a rapper was speaking on a small stage. There were maybe five circular tables and four long tables in the club. A light-brown-colored guy in the front circular table exclaimed how this rapper was his favorite, and showed him his head, which was shaved with the rapper's insignia. This seemed to satisfy my curiosity about the rapper's identity. When the guy looked up, his face was like a mirror or screen. It showed his features, but his skin reflected the face of the rapper, sort of pixely. Whenever he moved his head, the direction of the rapper's face changed, like a mirror would. I had to leave because of my mom's curfew, and I wanted to call my mom to extend it, but my battery died. The party was supposed to be from 8-12 pm. Sometime later I was at a pool and there was some thought about not putting sunscreen in my part and getting cancer. As I left the pool, I saw a girl and her instructor learning to do something. The girl's lesson was over, but she wanted to learn more - except another girl came up for her lesson. The instructor got angry and left. Then the first girl offered to teach the other girl, which seemed pretty arrogant. So I initiated a conversation with the girl about ice skating - did she do it, for how long, and did she compete? Then I was walking around a mall, talking to the girl on my cell phone, asking her how old she was, to which she answered her mom's birthdate. I then told her that she should not tell strangers her birthdate. I considered myself a stranger to her. Now I realized that my cell phone had magically charged, and was angry that I had not been able to call my mother to extend my time at the party. I wondered what had happened after I left the Harry Potter party. I had missed the cast members, and apparently Paul van Dyk had been there! Then "the music turned off" like it does in my school. Whenever the music turns off during a passing period, we have about two minutes to get to the next class. and I had to get to my assigned store, the Verizon store. I guessed that it was downstairs, and downstairs looked suspiciously like the Stacy's store. There was a banquet set up in the restaurant, and the dream ended soon thereafter.

      8th December 2007

I think I had some dreams prior to today, but I can't remember what they're about because I didn't write them down. I remember having at least two dreams this morning, though.

      9th December 2007

I was in a stadium-shaped building in the stands (if it were a real stadium). There were zombies. After the beginning, which I don't remember well, I jumped in an elevator after being chased by the zombies. CC was in there. He seemed helpful, maybe just benign compared to the zombies. I pushed buttons for the lower level and the doors opened to reveal ruffians (from the lower levels of London). I then pressed the button for the top floor and read a tiny manual that was sort of like an "attractions" or "restaurants" book you might find in the lobby of a hotel. Once I could read it, I received instructions that I should look for some noblemen zombies to get a grant for something. They were dressed like American Indians and had names that reminded me of English colonists. In order to get this grant, I had to dig a grave and when I did, something creepy happened, but I can't remember. I also remember some dream about Cokes in the fridge.
