      Harakka's mapped dreams

      Harakka's mapped dreams
This is my new dream diary. I'll post here both new dreams and some interesting ones from my finnish dream blog. I have already written 70 pages of dreams as a PDF and I'm going to translate the best ones into English. I'm going to draw a map of every dream and that's what makes this DJ special. Let's begin.

I don't use much special formatting yet. LDs are blue and the numers that connect the text to the map are bolded.

      Exploring dream Helsinki

I'm sitting in our car. My dad is driving through Helsinki and I'm looking out trough the window. I notice some changes since the last time we visited: a small shop has now two huge plasma screens glowing with ads (1). I don't really like them and I think having two of them is just waste of money.

Listening to the radio, my dad says that this channel sends crap over compressed music too. I say I have read about that online (here) and that I hate overcompressing too. We continue to chat about that and the difference of old records and new records for a while. At the same time Dad is searching searching for a better channel. I spot an upside down screen outside (2). It's a bit like an overhead projector and sends video picture to car radios. "Hey great, that looks like a sharp image, it must be HD", I say.

We drive past a market place. There's a similar plasma screen on the wall of a mall to the ones that were at the smaller shop (3). I think it's a bit funny. There are lots of people walking outside. We drive forward and trough a corner where there are apartment blocks under construction (4). "Those houses look like they've stopped the old construction project and starting to build new stuff over it", I say: "The plywoods are standing but they still have holes where the windows will be."

We enter a parking area. There's a huge pile of wood on it (which doesn't excist in RL). They are stacked a bit like a cardhouse. It looks awesome: "I've seen this many times before but every time it impresses me", I say. We park our car under it (the roof is about 20 metres above us, maybe more). I guess we park under it because it will cover the car from rain.

I realize I'm dreaming. Not for any specific reason. I don't go crazy but I notice that everything is looking super realistic. It's late afternoon and the sunshine is gorgerous. My dad knows we're dreaming too and I think I'm having a shared dream and not for the first time (none of the times I though so were really shared dreams but I often forget that in dreams). He says that maybe we could estimate where we are by finding some landmarks. I know the dream world is different to the real Helsinki but that's why it'd be fun to see where we would be if this was real. I look over the river and I see four big buildings (6). They all appear slightly zoomed if I stare at them longer. "If we make a 90 degrees angle", I say and stretch my arms so that they make that angle: "on the left hand side there's a... um, nothing special and on the right had side there's that big church." My dad told me the name of it but I soon forgot it (and the church doesn't excist in reality). It was really huge and had lots of massive green pylons stretchig to sky. I look again at the building on the left: It's a big modern factory. It has a round glass walled building another building made of bricks. I ask if it's a Nokia factory the local Nokia factory looks quite similar. Dad tells me to look at the sign on the top of the factory. It says "Vi Enna". I'm happy that I can read stuff in the LD so I think I should write it down on my notebook so that I could recall it better. I take the notebook out of my pocket and luckily there's a little pen inside it - I never have a pen in there in RL. I forget to write down the name when I notice that my dad's missing. I walk east on the map and stop to wait leaning on a white car (Toyota if I remember correctly). The dream is starting to feel a little less stable though everything is still looking clear and I can think clearly. Then Dad arrives with a red smart. He opens the window and tells me to get in. The car smells like a new one. I open the door and quickly tighten the seat belt. I think that it's cool how I can realistically imagine a car I've never been in. Then dad starts to drive really fast - I get squished on the seat - and almost immediately crashes through the fence. The car flies through the air and I feel dissapointed - why did I take this risk, the dream will propably end now. The car splashes in water and even though I'm not scared, I yell "AARGHHH!". The sound comes like an automatic sound effect on games when you die. I wake up, grab my diary and write one word on the paper: Vi Enna. Then I draw a quick map and write the rest of the things.

This wasn't my best LD but a nice one anyway. I remember lots of stuff from it. Almost none of the things in this dream excist in reality: nor the pile of wood, the apartment blocks under the construction, Vi Enna or the huge church. And I also had a false memory of seeing that wood thing before. I wish the dream lasted a bit longer because I enjoy exploring dream worlds, especially ones like this because there were lots of people. Well, maybe next time..

I'll post more dreams when I have translated them. Comments?

What a cool lucid.. and your dad was with you!

I really like the map.. I kept switching back and forth from the DJ to the map so I could follow right along with you.

I also enjoyed how you got squished on the seat when your dad started driving the new car fast and how you stated that the "AARGHHH!" yell sounded like the automatic sound effect on games when you die. I could totally experience this part based on your description!

I have to say that I am amazed that English is not your first language.. this was very well written!

Thanks! That yelling thing is funny, I've now had it in two dreams. The other one was hilarious though it was a nightmare: this is how it ended.

[An LD ends because I'm frieghtened by a huge ball of bees]
I see nothing but white. I decide to ask myself why there were bees in the LD and see what my mind answers. "Why are there animals?", I ask.

A cool, calm scifi-stylish male voice responds: "Animals are significant important marking feature."

      "AAARRGH!"
It feels like my head was squeezed from all directions and I yell so loud that I think I must be yelling in real life too.
I wake up and luckily everyone is still sleeping. I write carefully down the answer and continue sleeping.

The interesting thing about that dream was that it was actually originally in English, I didn't translate my question or the answer. Oh, the map... There you go.

      Looking for answers

I'm walking home from school and I just remember I'm dreaming - "Oh, I almost forgot. Let's do the challenge thing." I call for a groundhog: "Murmeli! Murmelii!" and instantly one comes walking across the street on two feet (1). It's quite tall, maybe a bit over 0,5 m (that'd be one and a half feet). I walk closer and prepare for telekinesis but it comes and bites be or something. I wake up.

I close my eyes and get soon back to the dream. I continue walking along the road and see a car driving this way. I jump in it's way and the driver stops (2). I ask her if she could quickly tell me something I don't know about myself.I "I don't know even who you are", she says and I let her go. My mom comes with her car next and I ask the same question. She's busy and she says she doesn't do that kind of stuff. I tell that this is a task from a forum and I really need the answer. "Is this one of those things that you do something and then get a free weapon in the internet?", she asks. I'm starting to get a bit angry: "No, I get a badge!" The dream skips a bit and now we're at my grandma's house (not on the map). I continue asking but I still get no proper response.

Thanks! Good luck with your LDs.

Here are two pics from my diary. I write down dreams even if I wake up in the middle of the night. This is what the writings look like:

The first one is from a dream that I haven't translated yet (you'll see it soon) and the second one is from the Helsinki dream.

lots of detail. Do you write all that in the middle of the night? or just make notes so you dont forget the dream then write the rest in the morning?

I wrote that all in the middle of the night. Using my cellphone as a lamp. I had to tap a button every five seconds to keep the light on.

Here's one interesting LD for you.

      A fight against my mind

I wake up from my own bed. It's a bright summer morning and the sun is shining trough the window. I do a nose nest and I can breath - I am suprised. (1) The dream is very clear and the picture is sharp. Testing the stability of the dream I walk across the room and back. Everything seems very reliable and stable - I concentrate and push my right hand through a window (2). No problem. I push myself through the window my right side first. I smell the fresh air of the morning. I feel awesome!

I get back inside and spot a magazine lying open on a chair (3). It's a computer magazine called Mikrobitti. The text is completely readable. The article is a review of video cards but after a quick look I notice that the quality of the text has dropped dramatically. The review is full of misspellings and it has a very amateurish style. It even has some words spelled WiTH BiG LeTTeRS MiXeD with small ones. Somewhere it says "...wouldn't even win Radeon 9800". The pluses of the video cards are reasonable ("quiet", "fast") but some of the minuses is just a joke.

I look at the window again (4). I remember a post at Hoyhensaaret-forum where somebody had explored the precision of your view in a dream. I can see very clearly that there are robbers at a table in the next house planning something evil. The sunlight reflects from me to that room. I move a couple of times so that the light doesn't bounce from and come back to see how it works. This gets the robbers' attension. They all stand up agressively and look at me. I dive in the corner of the room (5) and instantly I hear guns firing and bullets hitting the wall. I turn around so that I can see the window - it isn't broken. I try to escape from the room but as soon as I get past the door everything becomes dark red and black.

I've teleported to the yard (6) and that's where the dream continues. The shooting scene is over but the dream's quality is still as good unless better than in the beginning. I decide to show some tricks to my little brothers who are playing with bikes. I grab a mini bike (as tall as my knee) from the terrace and sit on it. I kick some speed from the floor and roll towards the edge of the terrace (7). I concentrate on flying and feel quite selfconfident. I don't fly and I fall over the edge (it's only about 10cm over the ground though). I fall on the ground and the others start laughing. It's quite embrassing. Well, I still have some aces in my sleeve! I point at a tree in the street (8) with my index finger: "Look at that tree." I concentrate again and the leaves - which were green - turn yellow. The people get silent and I try to change the leaves of another tree (9) red. For some reason the dream starts to collapse.

I've been in this situation before. I stay calm and be cool. Withouth panic I yell to the dream looking at the sky: "Quality one hundred! Quality one hundred percent!". The breakdown of the dream ends but the clearness doesn't get any better. I don't notice the gray clouds forming in the sky and the slight breeze. "Quality one hundred and ten percent!", I yell being already angry. The wind raises to a loud rumbling storm and I get the idea: the dream is trying to kick me out! Water is slashing down horizontally and then in spirals. I get mad. I take a sturdy grab of a wooden pillar next to me (10) and roar back: "And you will not get me out of my own mind!"

      What happened? I woke up.
(Well ok, I managed to get back to the dream but the quality was zero and it was really hard to keep the dream up. I quit.)

This one is one of my favorite LDs. Check it out.

      Animorphing

I'm sitting at a poker table next to a railing on the second floor of a local mall called Plaza (1). I'm playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker with my friends. I know I'm dreaming but I don't do anything special because I feel relaxed and we're having fun. I believe my friends are dreaming too in the same dream. The dealer is a teacher from my confirmation camp and the theme of the game is economy and good life. Valtsu says I could buy a new cell phone from a table next to the wall (2). Because I'm dreaming I decide to just try that for fun - there's no need to save money now, no-one will never know anyway. I look for a cell phone at every shop table but I find none. I get frustrated and suggest exploring the world. Riku is already running down the stairs (3) but I yell him to come back - I think the dream might break if we went there. I don't remember what happens next. The dream continues from a forest.

Now I'm wandering with my little brother and couple of my friends in the nature of the dream world. We're walking on the edge of some forest and I'm admiring the sharpness and clearness and the details of everything (4). We all are animorphs so we can morph into an animal when we want to (the idea comes from animorphs books). There's a lake on the right hand side and we see a Viking Line ferry floating around the bend. There's a small cliff behind it. I concentrate on imagining a bird - to be exact an Osprey - and quite quickly turn into one: I get a feather pattern on my skin and shrink fast. My legs become bird legs and the feather pattern turns into real feathers. Soon our group is ready - everybody's a bird - and we start flying low over the lake (5). We land behind the ferry to have a closer look. I notice something weird: "I wonder if this is Silja Europa or what - it says Europa there". Suddenly the ferry transforms into a yellow blocky sharp-edged industrial boat that speeds rapidly towards us. We panic a bit and fly away. Not being afraid of the boat but of risk of breaking the dream. Flying really low I hit the water and get wet. It feels really realistic: the water is cold and heavy. I flounder to the cliff and morph back into a human (6). The boat is gone so there's nothing to panic about.

We start walking along a path through another forrest. I try to touch a tree being still amazed of how realistic the dream is (7). The feeling of freedom is amazing - the world feels like a real one but we can do anything we wan't without caring about anything. It's awesome. After a short walk we find a little green cottage (8). We get in and sit down to chat about stuff we've done. We laugh and have great fun. My dad suddenly enters the room and asks me to keep a pack of cards and give them back some day. I try to explain that this is just a dream: my real body is right now sleeping on my bed and after a couple of hours I'll wake up. Then this world will no longer excist. My dad doesn't get this so I just put the pack in my pocket and tell the group we're continuing the trip.

We get out of the forest and arrive in a very beautiful place (9). There's a steep in front of us and about twenty meters lower there's a small town. It's winter there. The roofs of the houses are glittering and everything is covered with snow. There's a cycle path which goes downhill to the edge of the town on our right hand side. I'm excited and I want to run down the hill. What would be the best way to do that? I'll morph into a cheetah. I try to do that in the air while doing a somerset but I fall on my back feeling embrassed. When I turn on my feet I'm anyway already a light cheetah and laughing silently in my head I run to the down the hill. I notice my little brother is already running back as some big cat too. We crash and he accidentally scratches me in my lower lip (10). I morph back to a human again and press my lip with my hand: "Ouch, that hurt!". I'm not very worried though. This is just a dream and I'm not injured in reality. I do taste the blood in my mouth. I grab some snow from the ground and wash my hand. Luckily no-one saw this little animal episode, I think - it might have freaked people out. Then I see an old lady walking towards us on the other side of the road. He turns and passes us keeping a good distance. My little brother bursts in laugh. He's still half a man and half an animal: "Hey, look at these paws, they're still huge!"

Please comment! I love hearing what people think about my dreams and the maps.

The lst ones pretty cool. For me the cheetah part would have been the highlight of it all

Turning into animals in dreams is cool, different and feels wierd.

Thanks! Yeah that was definitely my favorite part too. I know what you mean - it sure felt different and really refreshing. The cheetah was so light but still so fast and agile and there wasn't any stress about real life stuff. You could just, well, run. Running is extremely fun when you're a cheetah.

I have already drawn many maps so I'll post many new dreams when I've translated them. Stay tuned.

Whoah, I had a very long and cool normal dream.

      (I'm sorry I haven't updated this english DJ - I haven't had much time.. =/)

James Bond in the Castlemaniac's Skyscraper

I'm James Bond and I'm on a mission at a hi-tech enemy base. I can sneak around the skyscraper easily because I have a cloak device that makes me invisible. I also have a secret lab that I can access my pushing a button in one of the elevators - the elevator will shoot up and stop at my place. Anyway in the beginning I'm in a busy underground floor kicking some enemies ass. They get very confused and soon undestand that Mr. Bond is here - they still don't seem to have a plan and they are just looking around like it could help. To add a cool touch I sweep some dust from a dusty wall plate to write "An invisible enemy is the worst enemy".

Silently laughing I let the workers yelling downstairs and run stairs up to the main hall. Someone is standing at the doorway and accidentally hits me in my shoulder - it leaves a black spot in my cloak. "THERE HE IS!", someone yells jubilantly. Instantly lots of men are running after me. This suprises me and I have to run away (loosing all my coolness). I turn in many crossings and go through narrow corridors to get some distance to the guards. I dash to an elevator room and push the button and wait for an elevator to arrive. It seems to take forever... I can't stop so I jump down the elevator pipe which has transparent walls (there is no door). I fall maybe three floors and slow my speed by pushing the walls. I stop at floor level, back off on a small strip of floor on the edge of the pipe and wait. Someone outside the pipe is looking at my hand really concentrated. I know I'm still invisible but I guess my cloak is refracting light a bit like hot air. More people gather behind the glass - "Look, that could be his hand, couldn't it?"

WHOOSH! An elevator falls down past the place where I was! With my lightning fast agent reflexes I dodged it by nestling against the wall. Instantly I jump down the pipe to catch the elevator (now people are yelling again - they've found me). I land on top of it and quickly manage to open a door on top of it. I try pressing buttons but the elevator will not stop at any floor - it's going to fall and crash. I don't have much time. The whole elevator is shaking. I spot a metallic plate on the wall with emergency exit instructions written on it. I read it in a second and then start working. There are tons of really small switches, valves, gears, regulators and buttons on the wall (all made of metal). The super agent inside me turns them in right positions lighting fast. Then I push the left and right side of the door apart. Another similar wall of switches is behind it. I turn the switches and open it too. There are at least three similar doors that I open staying cool in the second by second shortening life time.

Finally (after five seconds) I see the wall roll up hundreds of mails in hour in front of my nose. At excatly the right moment I jump and land in a subway station styled corridor. Instead or rails there's just floor. I know I'm safe now - there's nobody in this area. I walk along it and the next room confirms what I had concluded. There are about ten minuature castles and skyscrapers in the room and a scale model of this skyscraper and a map of this city with the skyscraper marked on it. This must be the secret area of my arch enemy! I also have a group with me now (appeared from nowhere). "This guy really seems to like castles", I say - looking at the model of the skyscraper I start to see in my enemy's mind. There are some high poles coming out of the roof of the building. They remind me of towers in the corners of a castle. This enemy has designed the building so that normally it looks like a regular skyscraper but in a war he can rise some extra towers to expand it for attack and defense.

Someone is coming! We dash and hide under some mattresses on the floor. An old man enters the room from a door in the opposite direction of where we came from. "Matias! Who made this horrible mess here?", he shouts (now I now my enemy's name too, I think). The man comes close to us and starts turning the mattresses. I manage to move and hide behind something many times. Then I run out of mattresses and he finds me. The dream skips a bit.

The old man is on our side. We decide to continue the mission, which is a WoW quest now. "We have a good party", I say - "lots of different character classes." There are six or seven of us and two are some big cats. We move to the next room. It's really dark in there. The floor is far away and it's clear that you will die if you fall. There are some wood planks attached to the wall behind us and to the opposide wall. There's only about a meter of floor: after that you have to hang from the planks to get to the other side. There's a gap of three or four metres between the wood planks of the sides. One of the cats goes first, jumps to get over the gap, falls and dies. "So now we have just one cat", someone says as a small joke. I decide to google the instructions to this questions before trying again. Alt+tab. I get two good results. In the other one they say this is a good quest for beginners and improves the savanna skill. That reminds me of Tarzan and I guess we should be quick and leap over the gap by taking advatage of the bending of the planks. (I think the dream ended here - I can't remember how the techique worked.)

This time no maps (yet) but some 3D scetches.

The skyscraper looked a bit like the Petronas towers.

The elevator pipes.. They went all the way up from the ground level to the top of the building and could bee seen in the hall.

A quick visualisation of the wood plank quest room.

I'm considering putting this dream in the dream gallery - what do you think?

Thats really cool, lots of action, pretty cool and it turned into a WoW dream! Although the jumping / agility challenge remind me of an online custom made map on Unreal Tournament 2004, you have to jump massive gaps and find ways to get to places.

As for the dream gallery, I say go for it, the dream is interesting, detailed and had a little story, thats pretty good.

I finally found some time and inspiration to translate some more dreams after joining Lunar Light forums. This one is a normal dream I had quite a long time ago. Interesting details (no idea where that math part came from). Sorry for the bad formatting.. I used images straight from my dream blog and you can't arrange pictures on one side of the page here so this one looks a bit messy.

      Robot dog tyrant
      The map

      1. The dream begins here
      2. The crossing where we meet the grandma
      3. The crossing where we meet a big crowd (and get an unfriendly welcome)
      4. This is where we draw some triangles on the ground
      5. The time gate was supposed to be here
      6. The robot dog tyrant
      7. The ship crashed and the dog was destroyed here

The route we walked is marked with orange dashed line, the flight is marked with blue continuous line, the path to the time gate is marked with blue dashed line and the end of the flight is marked with orange line.

I'm walking with the rest of our Animorphs group to the playing field of my school - our next mission will take place there. We come to the crossing of the street and a gravel road. Jake, the group leader, does a quick briefing: people here can be hostile so we should be very polite this time. Being careful we start to walk along the gravel road.

A couple of streets join the road on the right hand side. When we come to the first one we see an old lady asking for help. There's no threat so we go and see what's the matter. The grandma tells she needs water. To show we're coming here as friends we decide to help her: one digs a small hole in the ground with his shoe and we fill it with water using magic. The grangma smiles gratefully and thanks us with a weak voice. We go back to the road and notice there's now lots of people at the next crossing. We walk there taking it easy. The people seem to be more suspicious - we greet them but not many people say a word. We then continue walking to the end of the road to a grass field to make a couple of calculations. We will need them to know the location and time of a time gate we are going to use to make a time warp later on. This is how we make them:

      1. A right triangle is drawn on the ground.

      2. A line is drawn with it's other end located on the longer catethus. The midpoint of that line must be the midpoint of the hypotenuse of the triangle. The line must be the normal of the hypotenuse.

      3. Another line is drawn. It must be paraller to the first one. This one begins at the corner of the longer catethus and the hypotenuse.

      4. Another line is drawn, starting from the upper end of the first line. This line is paraller to the hypotenuse and ends where it intersects the second line.

      5. The area of the trapezium we've created is calculated.

We draw two figures like this: one for the location and another for the time. When we're done we start walking back where we started. The point of view changes and shows the crowd we walked through a moment ago. Someone's whispering: "They didn't look like strangers to me" but someone else demands an attack against us. The attack gains more support and the point of view changes to show what Ax is seeing. He and the rest of us are now where that crowd had been. Nobody's there anymore but we don't pay attention to that. From the corner of is eye Ax sees a chair being swinged at him - then everyting's black. "I was hit by an object with mass of eighteen kilograms. I will fly seventeen meters", he thinks. Then the camera shows our whole group laying on the ground. The first one to wake up is Ax, who cures himself with some natural medicine thing. Suprisingly he gets starts to hang candy canes on a tree. There's even a string going around it already. The aggressive locals are watching trough some bushes and get amazed: "Santa!" they yell and rush to Ax and apologize for their unfriendly behaviour. We get a permission to go to the lake (the field IRL).

First we have to go back to the starting place. There's a medium-sized - bigger than some motor home - space ship waiting for us there. We climb in the cockpit and the engines are started. The ship starts to hover softly. There isn't much room inside and it's dark in there. We start to float towards the lake thinking about the problem we came to solve: we've heard that something is dividing the lake in halves and all the animals stay on the other side. We drive to the left side of the lake on the edge of it and move along it. The time gate should be now straight ahead. Suddenly the first engine fails and the ship lurches. It is restarted instantly. Some girl is controlling the engines - she has ten buttons (one for each engine) and she pushes them with pencils. A really stupid system in my opinion! Just when we are coming to the location of the time gate, the ship turns right. "Whaat?" says at least to people at the same time. "The location is no problem but getting there at the right time isn't so easy", the driver says. Seems like we have to make a circle around the lake and try again. While he's making a turn we spot a huge - almost as big as our ship - metallic dog. It wakes up as we pass it, looking scared but ready to attack - "What the heck was that?"

Nobody knows but without doubt that was the thing that divides the lake. The lake is freezing slowly. The dog growls and starts to run towards us. The driver makes a close dodge and we're safe (the ship is naturally a lot faster than the dog). However the engine manager girl screws it again - this time engine three shuts down and the ship tils heavily. She turns it back on and off again. The bottom of the ship digs in ground and it falls heavily on grass right next to the edge of the lake. After we've stopped we escape trough a door which is now in the ceiling. The dog is getting closer and closer, shaking the ground more and more on every jump. The group leader isn't going to get out in time and he stays to fight the dog. When the dog is really close he attacks and stabs the cross of a rosary through the lower screen of a Nintendo DS attached to the neck of the dog. That dog machine thing falls on the ground dead. We laugh and celebrate - mission complete! Marco spots a small puddle on the ground: the water has changed it's color to gold. There are some pieces of wood there and they seem to bee solid gold now. "Cool", he says: "We should visit here more often!"
