      Surfs Dream Journal

      ************************************************** ********
When I was in my early twenties I discovered lucid dreaming and kept a dream journal. After awhile I just didn't work on it and only had the occasional lucid dream.

Now I am in my forties and had been thinking about giving it a try again. I set up a reality test during my waking time this past week and it only took about three days before I had my first lucid dream this morning.
      ************************************************** ********
Before I realized I was lucid I found myself in some kind of store and their was a "crazy" person making a lot of noise to the point I felt threatend. I went to the back of the store and found a place to hide as I started thinking he or she might be ready to start shooting or something. Then I ended up in another room where the "crazy" person or thing ended up standing in front of me asking for money but they were wearing some weird kind of unrecognizable costume. It was at this point that It started to dawn on me
      ************************************************** ********

I pressed my index finger into the palm of my hand to test for dreaming and my finger passed through my hand. Then I walked through the wall of the store I had found myself in to get to the outside of it , as I had become unconcerned of course about the "crazy".

Right away I decided I wanted to try flying again and noticed that I could feel that it was windy outside. I flew into the wind and as I lifted off and gained altitude I noticed geography similiar to the midwest in the U.S. where I live.

Then I thought that I would like to go to a tropical location and I started thinking about the ocean as I looked at the approaching horizon.

I was amazed that it worked so well and I landed near an inlet surrounded by palm tree's. I walked into the water and found myself among a group of people wading in the water and one guy sitting on a surf board. I was trying to move through them and was actually stumbling over them. * I find it amusing that I was saying "excuse me" to them *

Later I had a false awakening but remembered to do my test as mentioned above.

My dream changed again and was rather short before I woke up.

      ************************************************** ********
      Notes:
Strange Circumstance at beggining of dream caused me to do my test
      Weird Costumed thing

Flying , Changing Dream , False Awakening , Walking through walls and passing hand through various objects including a wall and window.

Woke up in morning and then went back to sleep for a couple of hours before I became lucid.

      Maybe I Just got Lucky

After not having LD's for many years I decided to give it a go and had success after about a week of doing RC's.

Since then I have just had some dreams that I have remembered parts of that were not lucid. My recall is not great ... think I need to start keeping a note pad next to me so I can jot stuff down right away.

I am still doing RC's during the week but changed it by adding a everyday action for me: Checking the time on my watch. I remember in the past when I was dreaming and looked at my watch the digital read out would always seem to change (during second glance) or the display would look all messed up and un-readable.

I remember my first Lucid Dream

Back in the early eighties I was attending a community college and had taken a psycology course. During the course we had different topics and one of them was on dreaming. We were told as part of our assignment to write down our dreams but the focus wasn't on LD's.

Sometime during the quarter at college I had a dream that I was walking through a cemetary and out of the corner of my eyes I thought I saw a object dissapear behind one of the headstones. Then it happend a couple more times. As I walked along farther all of the sudden some kind of "pig like" monster jumped out in front of me and seemed to be very angry and aggressive. At this point I realized "This has to be a dream" and ran towards the monster instead of away from it. I was laughing and it started changing to being friendly. Then I remember thinking to myself that I might be able to change the dream and started thinking of a beach. I found myself on a sandy beach near water and then I think my excitement woke me up.

Later on I realized that part of the scene from the cemetary was from a "horror" movie I saw when I was just a teenager called "Phantasim" (spelling) which included a killer "silver ball"

      The Mask & Strange Watches

I gave up about a week ago on doing rc's then this morning I had a dream turn into a lucid one.

Very strange (to me) as I was in a confrontation with some guy and stuck my hand into his stomach. No problem figuring out I was dreaming at this point.

Then I twisted and pulled and caused me now to think of a scene from "The Mask" with all the cartoon like things happening "as the middle of his body" was now deformed. Well the guy was in great pain and I walked away and again just went through walls from what ever room/building I was in.

I guess it is kind of a quick observation , but when I figure out I am lucid I just start going off in another direction right away.

Then I find myself sitting with some friends and having them all look at their watches doing rc's. The digital read out was all messed up on mine . Everyone elses read different times and changed at every new glance as I could see theirs too. So now I am trying to figure out what to do next as I next find myself standing on the deck in the backyard of the house I grew up in. Looking around at the old neighborhood.

I felt like I was starting to wake up and forgot about the "spinning" idea I heard about at this forum.

Shortly after this I woke up.

I did wake up in the morning one time and then went back to sleep for about a hour and a half when I had the lucid dream. It also seems to help if I am laying on my back when I fall asleep again instead of my side or stomach.

Still not sure how much time I feel like putting into my dreams / journal / recall and such.

I sure do find lucid dreams exciting and an adventure ... just need to do more planning in the wakeing state if I continue to pursue them.

      Someone Wake me up !

I had two dreams back to back after waking up and going back to sleep - twice.

Did not become lucid for either of them.

In the first dream I was driving to work and got lost ending up around the parking lot of different stores at a mall. * never happens in waking life *
Also as I am trying to use my cell phone to call work and tell them I will be late I can't get it to work.

After I woke up I felt a little tired and layed in bed for awhile and fell asleep again for about a hour.

During my second dream I ended up back at a old high school job in a grocery store. I went up front at the store to bag groceries and decided to ring up people at the cash register. Well I was searching and searching for the right buttons on the cash register and the lines were getting longer and longer.

I did manage to get one person rung up but the cash register didn't look normal and it spit out change from some slot behind it. Weird.

Then I remember helping some vendor who was bringing stuff into the store. He was handing me some product and I had so much stuff in my hands I kept dropping it ..... as some customers appeared to be taking free pop from a large overhead cooler.

Maybe my recall is starting to improve at least but I can tell that my rc's are not working to great. Both LD's I have had involved being in a situation that screamed "This has to be a dream".

I wonder if incorporating my cell phone into rc's would be a good idea??

You already know this, but I do not support physical reality checks. Incorporating your cell phone into a reality check might be good , but do not become dependant on it until you know it works. Whatever gets you lucid is fine. I almost always use a different logic reality check every time (question surroundings, remember last location,etc.).

      Excellent Flying LD

After getting up early to take care of my daughter I decided to take a nap and when I couldn't fall asleep on my back I said to heck with it and rolled onto my side/stomach.

At some point I felt kind of strange and I remember trying to open my eyes and hoping that if I was dreaming that I wouldn't wake myself up.

Then I was back in my old bedroom I had when I was growing up at my parents house . As I was sitting on the bed I remember feeling weird and I actually asked myself If I was dreaming. Then I did a rc and figured out I was dreaming.

Then as a after thought I looked a couple times at my watch but everything appeared pretty normal. I was expecting a freaky looking display or different times when I took a second look but it kept saying 8:13.

One more time I double checked myself with my now standard rc. I took my index finger and pushed it through the palm of my hand.

Then I looked out the bedroom window and I could see there was a dark blue sky outside and I decided right away that I wanted to leave and go flying towards a lake I like to windsurf at.

For some reason I like going through walls and I could hear some other people/family (probably) in the other room. I decided to exit through the wall of my old bedroom to get outside instead of checking out who was home.

I took my hand and pushed it through the wall and then started making a hole by stirring my hand bigger and bigger from the center of the hole . When I got the hole big enough that I could fit through it I stopped moving my hand and the hole collapsed like liquid. Well I did it one more time and then stepped /pushed my way to the outside and looked up at the sky.
Then I jumped up and started flying and noticed at first that I could feel the effects of gravity slowing me down.

I continued up and things got easier and I looked around to see how clear things were and noticed some wind generators/turbines too. As I was headed towards the lake I could see a highway below me that recognized during my waking life that I take to the lake. It’s funny because when I was flying I actually picked a route that I thought was faster/more direct than the way the roads go.

Somehow during my flight one thing that changed was that my 1 ½ old daughter was under my left arm and wanted something. I told her it would be a little while before we got there.
      * This is what I have been doing a lot lately when she is in the car with me *

Some things I think about now is the fact that I don't really have to travel somewhere , I could probably just have as easy thought of the lake I go to and think of my self windsurfing and I could have been there.

While I was trying to falling asleep I asked myself a couple of time if I was dreaming hoping that I would do the same thing when I actually was dreaming. I was also picturing myself in hawaii windsurfing which obviousley didn't happen in my dream.

Anyway , I really was excited when I was flying and could feel the wind and I also remember to look around to see how clear things appeared because I had read someone's post at this forum how excited they were when they were doing the same thing.

Kind of cool that I can remember things that happened in waking life while dreaming.

      Improving recall

Since the last post I have not had any LD's but did have lots of dreams I remembered upon waking up in the morning.

Some of them were so obvious when I woke up that I couldn't believe I didn't question it and do a rc.

Also I didn't journal my non LD's the past week or more which maybe I should be doing.

I should at least be working on dream recall I suppose. Not to mention I really got lax with doing RC's during the day.

So I guess I am just posting a little bit of a update about the past week and wonder how often others have LD's. Once , twice , three times or more in a given month.

I have never really had anyone else to gauge it by , but I guess I have come to the place where I can now.

      Pleasant dreams !

Yeah, that's cool I think of waking life a lot when I am lucid, not always remembering things though. Quite often I think things like "the longer this dream is, the more I will have to write down when I wake up" or "I might not remember all of this dream when I wake up". That's not so cool though; I should probably concentrate on enjoying my LDs rather than worrying about writing them down when I wake up lol

lol, I know how annoying/frustrating that can be. Like I'll dream sometimes that I'm completely naked in a public place and I don't even stop to think that I could possibly be dreaming lol

      Hi surfdreamer

I am enjoying your journal and find many similarities. Whenever I get lucid, I tend to go through the nearest wall in the hope that it will remove some of the more ‘dreamier’ aspects of my dream.

I was delighted to read that you put your finger through your hand – I went through a phase a while back of pushing my hands into my face. If my face caved in, then I was dreaming. I thought I was weird.

Planning your next LD, including content.

It's been almost a month that I have not put any effort into attaining lucidity but I have had many more dreams that I recall when I wake up. Some of them just floor me "that I didn't realize I was dreaming".

Years ago I remember thinking about a situation / dream I wanted to have and after visualizing it in my mind off and on for a week or so I actually found myself in the dream I had planned. It was very exciting and I thought easier to realize I was dreaming.

I am wondering if anyone else has success with this and if it is or can be a regular part of lucid dreaming. It just seems like it would be easier to notice signs and become lucid if you already knew what was going to happen.

My next fantasy/dream which I know I will never actually do in waking life would be to windsurf at "Hookipa" , Hawaii. So my idea is to visualize it and fantasize about it until I have the "dream".

What do you think? How long do you think it would take and How often would I have to meditate on it for it to happen.

      Cheap Bar Tricks / Knife

I was talking with my wife as we were somewhere indoors / home I think.

My nephew came into the room and I noticed right away his age. He looked to be about 14 again as he actually is now about 19 or 20.

I turned to my wife and told her that this is a dream and did a quick RC. Then I started to walk out of the room towards a door and glanced at my watch a couple of times. The first time I looked it said about **12:00 and quickly changed to 12:30 **and then flickered some other weird numbers.

When I got outside it was a sunny clear day and I could feel that it was warm & windy out.

I jumped up and started flying a little bit and noticed a golf course that for some reason I thought i had been to in waking life recently. "Not"
Anyway ..... I decided to land on the golf course and started to walk across it a ways until I found myself inside what looked like a restaurant / bar at the clubhouse. Inside it looked like things were set up for dinner but there was just a bartender and one customer in the room.

I walked up to the bartender and started to tell him what had happened to me and the customer next to me also started listening.

Demonstrating how I could pass my finger through the palm of my hand the bartender and customer were looking closely on both sides to see if it was real *laugh*. Then I did something I hadn't tried before. I took a large knife that was on the bar and pushed it part way into my palm. I didn't feel a thing but it did start bleeding. After wiping it off with a napkin it stopped bleeding and eventually just disappeared.

Yesterday I had been looking at family photos on the computer and had seen a pic of when my nephew looked real young. I couldn't believe it had only been about seven years. Anyway , I really got lucky that he showed up in my dream because I was no where near being Lucid until I saw him.

*note* I had woken up late morning and then decided to lay back down for a little while. Slept about and extra 45 minutes when I had the dream and it was between **12:00 - 12:30 **when I woke up

Well I really don't want to spend all my dreams doing cheap bar tricks for characters in my dream and if I would have just kept flying past the golf course maybe I would have remembered my plan to surf hookipa.

Hopefully it will be sooner that I have my next LD. Maybe I need to use photos like the character in "Jumper" *grin*

The last thing that comes to my mind to write about is the fact that the more things I do and places I go makes it hard to recall everything. Part of me thinks I should try staying where I am at when I become Lucid and see what I can do there. What do you think??

      What time is it?

I had an excellent LD this morning and was excited right away to realize I was dreaming. Everything seemed so clear.

It started out that I dreamt I was on the phone with someone and they were commenting on the time and how it was about 2 o'clock in the morning. I was standing outside and looked straight up to see the sun shineing down on me. It occured to me I was dreaming right away and then I tried to decide what to do next.

The thought went through my mind to stay in one spot and try some different things as I know my recall isn't the best.

I actually walked up to a wall that looked like it had "climbing holds" on it and was touching them to see what they felt like.
I also remember walking through some small town and pointing my finger at a gas station and "willing it" to blow up. It wasn't as impressive as hollywood special effects but it did explode & blow apart. *** laugh *** ---- as I was pointing at it I actually made a blow up sound with my voice ..... (can't spell it You probably get it .

Then I did some flying / floating for a bit before I tried to change the dream.

My LD's have been pretty spread out now as I have not been putting much time into my waking life / rc's and such.

During a LD everything seems so real and then when I wake up it seems like I lose alot / details to write down.

Also I will remember parts of dreams that occured before I became lucid.

Anyway .......... I did change the dream and went off in another direction for awhile and it seemed like a really long dream. I was trying to decide whether or not to try waking myself up but instead continued on with some other activities. **

I keep on forgetting my "windsurfing hookipa" plan as mentioned in earlier posts. Maybe I will be able to follow up with that adventure sometime soon I hope.
