      A Dreamy Tale

For the sake of gaining greater lucidity, I submit for the public's eye, my dream journal. As all others, it is a continuing work, written in first person. Also, I apologize that there may be huge spans of time between posts. Lucid dreams will be marked by bold print.

This was the first lucid dream I ever had. I remember dreaming that I was walking in a place known as Parkview Court aparments, and I was walking behind this DC, when suddenly it hit me: "I'm dreaming!" I said aloud. I was very, very excited! What alerted me to the fact that I was dreaming, is that Parkview Courts was destroyed by a tornado years ago, and has since been replaced by a green field. Everything was very clear and vibrant, almost life-like. The only thing that made it seem a dream is that the colors were too pure, the grass very, very green, and the sky very, very blue. I say to the DC I was walking with, "I'm dreaming." And he says "How do you know?"
"Because, my body is asleep in another world. From where I'm from its September the 28, 208" I was really exicted, and wanted to take advantage of the situation. So I asked the DC what was the date and he said it was the Year '6'. I thought this very stupid to say, but oh well, it was a dream world after all! Next thing I remember is that I wanted to fly, for this was a dream and I'd heard anything was possible. "I can make us fly." I saw tot he DC, and I grab his hand, and we start to float rather precariously . The amazement woke me up.

Had a dream in which I actually woke up and thought that I had sat down at my computer. It seemed as if I had been talking to my friend and he told me to look at the computer. I did my reality checks, looked at the time on the computer and it kept changing. It was then I realized that I was in a lucid dream. I had told myself before I slept that I would try to go through a mirror and go to another world. But I could not step through the mirror and go anywhere when I tried. The room was just as I left it, with the blinds drawn.

Had a dream that I was in Parkview courts, but some of the buildings had undergone a remodeling. Instead of brick, some of the buildings had what appeared to be light-blue vinyl siding, along with dark blue trim and carefully placed lighting so that everything had the appearance of being modernized. My great grandmother then proceeded to show me some books (pretty encyclopedias of brown binding and with red, gold, and blue designs). I remember that one of the books said “Dentistry” and another said “Respighi…” or something, the last part of which I cannot completely determine. Then somehow I went upstairs and there was a bed pulled on top of where the toilet was, I could see the porcelain top of the toilet jutting up from behind the bed. I also remember going into the other rooms, but do not remember much of what they looked like. I do remember someone else being there with me…my brother perhaps? I do remember looking out back and seeing that the other housing units had not been remolded and everything was very, very dark. I went back towards the front, where I had seen the remodeling, and it appeared that some of the vinyl had vanished and I had limited sight.

Took a nap. Had a dream that I was on campus, yet the campus seemed bigger compared to where I was dreaming about. Thought that I was at the water fountain, and this guy was riding this machine and banged it up against one of the concrete barriers shielding the fountain. I do remember the barrier chipping and I was very mad about this. Also, I remember there being a black Labrador in this dream. It was as if I was on a college campus, with people milling about.

…Also had another dream in which I was seated at work and began to wander throughout the library, although the library was changed somehow. I remember receiving a call on my iPhone, and looking down to see that it was this lady who goes to my church (or was it that lady from work this morning?) Anyway, she asked me if I was alright, and I told her yea, and she was like, are you sure there is nothing that you would like to talk about?” I told her no again, while approaching what appeared to be a balcony of sorts where I could look down and see the other students at their computers.

Had a dream that I was riding on a stretcher, and suddenly I grabbed out at a corner, pulled myself up, and gained lucidity. Suddenly I was in an apartment with two other people, and another was this girl I know (Caledonia?) And she had a ball in her hands. I asked her if I could see it and she gave it to me. There was a closed window in the room, and I took the ball--and shrunk it down a bit!--and concentrated on throwing it through the window. I threw it, and viola! It went straight out. I was so excited! Everything seemed so real! I could touch myself and I was almost in disbelief! Then somehow I was on a street looking up at the sun, covered by clouds. For some reason I was in a crowded phone booth. I said to the people: “Guess what, I can make it sunny!” And I proceeded to grab at the clouds--although they were not actually in my hand--and they moved away from the sun in clumps! I have never seen a sunshine so brilliant and golden. After than, I said: “I can also make it scary dark.” And I concentrated on clouds coming as dark as night to take over the sun. When I opened my eyes it was still sunny, but on the horizon I could see the pitch dark clouds, but they had not come to cover the earth. Guess I wasn’t that strong. And then I was in at a country estate in winter, but all the gardens were barren. And I thought to myself, “This place needs some color!” So, I bowed down and put my head to the ground and thought about color, roses, and other flowers. When I looked back up, there were pretty gardens. I was so excited. Then I said thank you in three different languages--don’t remember what they were--and then I thought to make lightning strike a tree--but the tree kind of flickered and nothing happened. Next, I find myself in this house with this beautiful young white woman crying saying that nobody wanted her. So, I say to her: “Well, I can find you a mate.” And I started to envision this tall white man with dark hair coming out of a room, but the man who came out was African. He was nice and he spoke to us--although I do not remember what was said. After he left the house, I tried to conjur a mate for the woman again, but this time nothing happened. At this point the dream got scary. The woman started to attack me, and I flailed my arms screaming “The light of God protects me and shields me in white,” over and over again, and then it was over. Before that happened I was flying a little. And then I started wondering that this was a very long dream, and not long afterwards I woke up.

I dreamt that I was folding shirts and pants with this girl. The shirts were plain white t-shirts, and the pants were simple blue jeans. After we folded the shirts we were placing them inside of a box. I was trying to instruct the girl that if she folded them smaller, then the clothes would invariably fit inside the box. But she refused to listen (or maybe she didn’t hear me? Even though we were sitting right in front of each other.) During this whole time, we kept hearing classical music coming from a source we could not readily determine. It was a piece that I happened to know (in fact, I have it stored in my iTunes library): a cantata by JS Bach entitled Christ Lag in Todesbanden, the first movement, which is very somber and filled with a metaphysical longing. We were humming and singing it to ourselves, and at times, even voicing the lyrics, in what appeared to me to be an unannounced contest as to who knew the words more than the other. Eventually, I suppose we became suspicious of the music, and went in search for it. Next thing I knew, we were in my grandparent’s back yard. It was very dark, and everything was filled with bluish black shadows. Along the side of my grandparent’s house is a small patch of grass that runs parallel to the neighbors house and takes you to the front of the house. This is where I stood, urging the girl to come on (for some strange reason, she was looking at the fence that separates my grandparents back yard from the other houses on the opposite street, which are down a steep hill perhaps thirty or thirty-five feet). The music was very strong, and yet we still were at a loss as to where it emanated. I walked back to the front of my grandparents house and I saw this car coming down the street, silent, and with lights on. For some reason I was a little bit spooked, but proceeded to the front porch. There I noticed a DC, a person whom I had seen in real life (but having never known his name), standing off by the wrought-iron storm door. I asked him what was the date, and he was really agitated, and I said: “I must have asked you this many times before.”
And he was like: “Yea, it’s the 21st.” Even as he said this, I brought up my watch with its blue-neon glow, and saw that the date was in fact the 22nd---it was a classical moment to become lucid, but I dumbly failed to do so. Next thing, I floated through the front door, for I certainly don’t remember opening it. The DC yelled and pounded on the door, wanting to be let in, but I ignored him. The music was back, and I heard the girl’s voice calling me from my grandparent’s bedroom. When I walked in there, the music was certainly louder now. Indeed, we discovered its source to be a radio at the top of my grandparent’s bed. There were several CDs stacked by the radio, entitled “Classical Heroes” I remember looking at the back of the CD to see as to what composers were on them: I remember seeing the names of Haydn, Mendelssohn, and maybe Mozart. There were also a stack of purple Cds, apparently lute suites by JS Bach. At this point I became excited stating that “:I have to add these to my iTunes. I’ve been looking for something like this!” And I grabbed the Bach Cds and went into the kitchen (with my laptop suddenly appearing in my hand in true dream fashion). It was when I was taking the Cds out of their case, that I suddenly had the suspicion that they wouldn’t work because I was simply dreaming and none of this was real. This doubt grew as I popped the first Cd into the computer, and lo and behold, it didn’t work….but shortly thereafter, I woke up, or possibly went on to another dream

Last night I had several dreams, but I can only remember some of them. The first dream I remember having is that I was traveling in a car with several other people, it was night time, and I had the impression that we were all on some kind of road trip. We drove until we came to a hotel, a rather run down place that resembled some off-the road motel. It was when we got inside, that I had an uncanny sense of nostalgia (but infuriately, I did not become lucid--even though this was my task for tonight, but I am getting close I believe.) Inside the motel, it was all fashioned in wood paneling and had a rather tan and brown carpet, the fluffy kind. I was with this other girl, for some reason the other people in the car did not get out, and the girl had t use the bathroom. We were greeted by two people, a woman in an old-fashioned flower print dress--circa the 50’s---who was wearing those tight leather shoes old people usually wear. The other was this fat kid in a white t-shirt, black kaki pants, and what appeared to be mary janes. The woman was naturally polite, and pointed the girl I was with to the bathroom. It was then that I had a sense that we were in some kind of danger, that underneath these smiles, those people only wanted to kill us in some sort of psychopathic manner. But I didn’t get a chance to voice my concern, the girl disappeared into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. Next, the woman in the flower dress went into the back somewhere, and I was left with the kid. I remember leaning against a wall, with another room opening up to my left. The kid was rambling through a shelf that also served as a partition between this room, and the one I had just been in. I could look through the shelves and see into the main room where the girl and I were greeted. My sense of danger did not subside. The kid was apparently arranging some sort of trophies and I remember jumping when I saw that he was handling one trophy that looked like a silver gun. And then this is where it gets strange----somehow, the kid was holding a violin--although for some reason I think that it was the instrument known as a viola da more--and he was playing Bach Violin Partita #2 in D minor, the first movement : Allemande. I remember thinking :How beautiful.
Looking into the room next to me I saw something that was truly incomprehensible: there was this doll with a heart-shaped porcelain head , with little frills bouncing all around the head, and it sauntered to a pallet on the floor, and proceeded to get underneath the covers. I thought : “Now, how ridiculous is that!?” But I missed a good chance to become lucid. Somehow I had a wand in my hand, and I was controlling the movements of the doll. At one point the head detached and I was twirling the wand, and sent the head spinning through the wall: I said to the kid: “Hey, look, it just went through the wall!” I was truly amazed--and I probably would have become lucid, but the kid said “No it didn’t. Look again.” So, I walked over to the wall, and somehow that wall divided and I could indeed see the porcelain head……it was here that this dream faded

The next dream, I remember myself being in this white palace, filled with rather Chinese or Hindu designs. I had the thought that it was the domain of some sort of cultist leader, and as I was exploring the palace, I remember hearing some sort of narration about how bad the man was, but I don’t remember what was being said exactly. At the middle of the palace, there was these double doors, and opening them, revealed some sort of cathedral nave, complete with high ceilings. There were some pictures on the wall of the past cult leaders who had lived in the palace, and for some reason there was an HDTV posted on one wall showing some sort of show, and there were very public restrooms, very modern looking. I remember at one end of the “cathedral” one of the doors were open. So, I went to shut it, but it kept opening. Then, a DC comes up on the other side of the door--the door was in the shape of an arch, sort of like a stain-glassed window, except the windows on the door were clear, and helps me shut the door. I remember that the room on the other side looked a lot like my friend’s kitchen, but they have since moved away. Again, another opportunity missed to become lucid!

      An Alien Transport Device/Partial Lucidity

      7-1-2008

This night’s dream I cannot seem to remember much---this is the second time in a row that I have had trouble with dream recall---perhaps it’s the melatonin? But I do remember at some point gaining an ounce of lucidity. I was dreaming about my brother or someone who I thought I knew (in the DW of course), and I remember saying to myself that I was dreaming. Before falling asleep, I had read Jrels’ DJ, and taken his advice on not mentioning the fact that I was dreaming to the other DC. But I suppose this caused me to loose lucidity, as that after doing a reality check nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The reality check involved me walking over to a glass wall, filled with goldfish. However, when I observed the fish closely, they looked like blurry gold, indistinct ribbons. Also, the dream was very hazy from what I recall, almost as if I was viewing the scene through very foggy glass. There was another dream in which I became lucid briefly. I was standing on some sort of elaborate disk made of porcelain or some other shiny material. It was painted like a Buddhist mandala--an intricate design of crimsons, gold, and maybe green. Standing on this platform, I was holding hands with two other people, who I know remember had very long limbs and a long neck, and had skin the color of tarnished bronze. They looked very much like aliens. I learned from these aliens that this platform was some sort of elevator, and that it traveled at very high speeds. They’d asked me repeatedly if I was sure that I wanted to ride the thing, for it was stated that the platform was not designed for human use….
I had a false awakening, where I was explaining this dream to somebody I do not know.

I had several other dreams last night, but remember fragments:

Something about some sort of lodge, where they were serving “bean gravy” or “bean porridge” I think it was
There was a bearded man in this dream
Dreamt that I was composing a music score, but using rather weird and definitely unconventional notation.
Dreamt about Parkview Courts again, except the occupants of the apartment was somebody I didn’t know
Something about a car parked in a dark driveway, I try to drive it, and the breaks don’t work(I am trying to make this my dream sign--I have many dreams about driving in cars with the breaks not working.)

      Smile Experiment

So, I've decided to try this little experiment--perhas you can call it a MILD in some degree. I've decided to recite the following at every hour, five times, untill I go to bed:

Tonight, Iwill have a lucid dream. Iwill recognize that I am dreaming, no matter how absurd or real the dream may appear. I will know that it is a dream and become lucid. I shall be aware that it is a dream, and I will become lucid, I will not take anything for granted. I will know instantly that I am dreaming, and will become lucid. I will be fully aware that what I perceive as real is actually part of my dream, and I will do reality checks to confirm that I am indeed dreaming. Tonight, I will have a luicd dream. Tonight, I will know that I am dreaming. Tonight, I will lucid dream and know that I am indeed dreaming.

I must note that this "mantra" if you will suceeded in giving me last night's lucids.

      Tiger Kitten/ Man in Shock

      7-4-2008

Currently, I've been taken Melatonin(5mg) and Vitamin B6(100mg) every night before bed, and I must say that I have been having very, very vivid dreams. The night of the 4th, as any other night that I have been taken these supplements together before bed, I had a series of dreams, many of which I cannot recall. However, I do recall one dream in which I was in my house. Everything appeared quite normal, and then again something about it seemed quite out of place. In this dream were my mom, my brother, and my cousin. I remember that my mom had this new cat, which closely resembled a tiger. I didn't think anything odd about this at the time. I did notice that in this dream, that my cousin did look kinda funny (his face was much larger than I normally remember it being, but unfornuately, I did not become lucid.) Vaguely, in one of my previous dreams of the night, I remember something about a construction site, and apparently somebody got killed. This man who witnessed the accident went into shock, and I was the one there who cared for him, placed his head on a pillow, and tried to prevent him from quivering....but yes, these supplements are doing wonders....now, if only I can get more lucid.

A Farmer in a Red Hat

I'm a psychology student, and in one of my classes--Physiological Psychology--I learned that external stimuli have no effect on dreams. Granted that this is a theory---as the world of Psychology is filled with them--I must say that I have to disagree. With it being the Summer vacation, I have come home from living in a dorm for the past eight months. Well, yesterday, I took a trip to my friend's house--who lives in the same city as my university. But the point I wish to make is that last night I had a dream about being in my friend's apartment. Pretty much the same white walls, but subtely different. I can remember this dream vividly--must be in consequence to the B6! I remember looking at this picture that was hanging up in the dream bathroom, and it seemed so real. It was a rather pecuilar picture, something to the effect of a type of structure (a house maybe) to the effect which I thought it was constructed out of grass. It reminded me something of a Van Gogh. These 'grass-houses' were facing towards the sun, and there was this farmer man in overalls and a red hat holding a rake.

Through the course of the night I had several other dreams, but my recall of them is a little bit cloudy. I'm thinking about forgoing the Melatonin and taking the B6 only, so as not to be so drowsy. But we shall see. Oh yea, I also recall somethign about the U.S. Presidential elections, and that one of the candidates(whom I shall remain unnamed) had won. I remember being much upset....I'm sure there were numerous dreams last night, but I only remember fragments that would be too vague to warrent typing.

Exclamation A Familial Picnic (Almost lucid)

      7-6-2008

Okay, let’s start with the one that I actually remember the most. And I was almost lucid! So, I had woke up at around 2:00am, drank a few cups of water, was focused on having a lucid dream, and went back to bed shortly thereafter. I thought about WILD, but since I have only been minimally successful, I attempted to MILD. Somewhere along the way, I guess I gave up before I entered the dream world (I must admit that I need greater dedication--or, to simply stop being lazy. I repeat to myself over and over that I will have a lucid dream, but I fear that this will prevent me from actually going to sleep, and kinda tell myself that when I do finally feel myself drifting off, that I will try to strike up the mantra again, right before I cross over into the dream world. I know, I know, it sounds sorta ridiculous, and no, it hasn’t worked). But the dream that I find myself in is that I am over my grandmother’s house, it’s a sunny day perhaps in summer, and lots and lots of people are getting out of cars. They are all family members I presume, for some of them I recognize. I remember one of my aunt’s saying: “Is that boy in there?” I assumed she was talking to me, since I’ve been in college there have been members of my family that I haven’t seen often. I remember running into the bathroom and shutting the door. Everything looked so real--the bathroom was the same as my grandmother’s in RL. There is a window in the bathroom and I can hear people laughing and music blaring. I think to myself now: “Am I dreaming?” I asked myself this question as I would have in RL. I was actually proud of myself, for outside of dream journaling,, I have made it a habit to do reality checks when I thought something out of place. Here, in this dream, I thought something out of place because there were simply too many people! I have a big family, but it was very peculiar that they should be assembled in this one place. And what was the occasion, by the way?! So, what’s the reality check I did (and the one that ultimately, prevented me from becoming lucid?) I did the hand test. I tried to force my right index finger through my left palm. I pushed once, and it didn’t go through. Next then I know, I have a mirror in my hand and I am looking at my hair. It was cut all wrong! Almost as if somebody had put a bowl over my head,, cut all around the rim, then removed the bowl and proceeded to cut my hair almost to the point it couldn’t be seen. I could see my scalp, all round and shiny with bits of hair. I looked completely horrible…it was here the dream faded and I woke up.
Other dreams over the night included something about school, and me looking in lockers for a book of mine, it seems like I had this dream before, but I don’t know. And there was some absurd dream about flowers and Vitamin C, I had the impression that if I chopped up the Vitamin C tablets, you could then pour it into the flower water and it would make the flowers grow longer.

A Shoestring Castle /iPhone teleportation Device

      7-9-2008
This dream is a little hard to describe. In the dream, I was playing with this model castel (or so I think it was) made out of what appeared to be shoe strings, both thick and short, long and skinny. For some reason I was under the impression that each section of the castle represented a piece of music, and that if I tugged at one section, I heard pieces of the music floating by in my dreams....
In another dream, I am a cartoon character--a dog I think-- and I chasing this other character around....
Now, the last dream of the night was really the coolest to me--could I have been lucid!?----But I had this dream that my brother and I had these transport devices--which looked a lot like the iPhone (which I happene to own, but my brother doesn't) But anyway, we would input a certain location, and this portal of incadesent light would open up in front of us. For some reason, we were on the mission to search for Christmas trees. I remember transporting to one place (Maine, U.S.A?) and going to this store and picking up what looked to me to be a beautifully ornamented roll of tissue paper. Funny thing, I assosicated this tissue paper as being a 'christmas tree' and teleported back home to show my mom.

In other dreams, I remember being in this colossal metal structure filled with pipes and everything. I was there with a group of people, and we were being terrified by this man who had a gun.

Flight of the Pixellated Bumblebee (Lucid Dream)

Okay, so I know it's been over a week since I've been here--and unfortunately, over a week since I've written in my DJ. But luckily I just had a lucid dream like 30 minutes ago.
I don't remember how I became lucid, but it seemed as if I was lucid from the start (or, rather I had an uncanny feeling that perhaps I was dreaming). Well, the dream starts with me walking into my room, as usual with dreams, my room is slightly changed, but bears such a resemblance to the actuall thing that it naturally tries to fool me. There is a digital clock on an empty computer cart (bingo!) and I take advantage of this. It is flashing in red numerals. 9:00....9:10A (cACHING!) So, I have a heightened sense that I am indeed dreaming. But I wanted to take this reality check thing further--since I have been slacking a little, I felt it was the least that I could do. I see that there is a CD (compact disk) case lying on the floor (the case of which looks very similar to one I own in real life. ) My twin brother was also in this dream, and it appears that we were in my room to do some cleaning up. Well, as a RC i did something that I remember doing from several dreams I've had before...I held my hand out, palm downward, fingers splayed apart, and commanded the CD come towards me; it jerked and wiggled and then flew upwards, smoothly, into my hand. My dream twin was like "Cool. How'd you do that? And I told him, "Because this is a dream." And I was already hovering. The action came with little effort at all. I remember doubting at this point if I was indeed dreaming---it looked so real. It seemed that I had my real eyes open, and was somehow conscious that I was someplace asleep. Yet thinking back on the phenomena with the CD, i reaffirmed to myself that this was all a lucid dream (CDs or anything for that matter don't fly into your hand because you want them too.) So, excited that I was dreaming and hoovering, I ran into the hallway and attempted to walk through the wall. I closed my eyes, and somehow bounced back. Determined, I race into my main room, with my brother close behind me, looking on as if amazed and perhaps slightly puzzled at my erratic actions. I attempt to fly through another wall, and this time I somehow make it through, but everything is all black. Black. I am still aware that I am floating, and this seems to be the only thing that I can control. So I experimented with the floating sensation: twirling around, wrapping myself into a ball and spinning at a faster speed. But no visibility. Then, I sense a slight bit of detail. It seems now that I was floating above an office desk,I could see what looked like a chair, and some paper on the desk, although everything is very unclear--in fact, its still dark. Almost as if an artist has made an engraving through wet ink with his finger. Its all an outline, and I experience that pixellated look many have described on this site. This office scene soons fades, and I find myself becoming conscious of whether or not I was dreaming. I focused inward, and heard what I thought was noise happening outside my sleeping body. I tried willing several scences to come up, like a beach; but did not succeed. Next time I'll remember to yell out "Increase Lucidity Now!" Next thing I know, I have an awakening. YOU GUESSED IT, A FALSE AWAKENING! I had awoken and grabbed a tablet with blue paper, and was eager to write the lucid dream down. Somehow, this FA faded and I awoke for real and raced to Dreamviews.

I think I will call this one a WBTB. I awoke briefly, and before going back to bed had this great confidence that I would LD. So, perhaps you can call it a CILD...?
