      John's Dream Journal

Last night was my first visit to the site. Before then, I don't think I even knew there was a term for it and/or that this was something that people try to do. I have always been a very active dreamer for as long as I can remember. I recall at least a dream a day if I want to. I have had Lucid dreams in the past but thought this was normal. Most attempts to control a dream however usually cause me to awake. So, although I wouldn't call myself a begginer, I am still going to try the common methods I've read about to help me atain more Lucid dreams every night.

Hey John! Welcome to Dreamviews. You'll see that as you participate in some of our threads and discussions about lucid dreaming you'll become better and better at it and eventually you'll become a master. If you want to know how to keep yourself from waking, try to humble yourself once you realize you are dreaming. Excitement is a big factor in waking people up from lucid dreams. There are also many ways to extend your lucid dreams and reenter them from sleep. Many good methods for doing that can be located in our tutorials section, namely here. Have fun here and don't be discouraged by all of the posts (sometimes it is hard to keep up with them and you might feel obligated too).

      My First Attempt

Although I have had Lucid Dreams before, I have never tried to have them. After reading up on a few techniques last night, I decided to try it out.

When I first hit the sack, I told myself a few times, "You will be Lucid, you will remember." That lasted about 5 minutes and I zonked out. I guess was more tired than I thought!

I awokemuch later and after a bit, I remembered that I was trying to have a Lucid Dream. I was kinda like, "Oh ya. You will be Lucid, you will remember." Then boom, back to sleep. Oh well. At least I was getting some good sleep.

THe next time I awoke, I remember that I had just had a dream but it fadded to quickly from my memory to recall. So then I really got into it and told myself that I was gonna make this happen. I was very possitive about the whole thing since I know it should come pretty easy to me. And... out.

I woke up early this morning but way too early to get up. So I knew that this was the time. Since most of the dreams I normally recall take place in the AM anyway, I knew this was my chance.

I concentrated very intently this time but without so much effort that I was stressing myself. Just enough to stay fucussed on what I was saying; "You will be Lucid, you will remember." A funny thing started to happen, somehow my words changed from "You will" to "You are". I didn't try to do this either. It just happened. So anyway, every time I found my mind wondering, I made an effort to think about only what I was saying. Also, I found something that helped me "go under" much quicker. I listened to myself breath, in and out, in and out. I continued to say to myself, "You are Lucid, you are dreaming." Don't how that happened but I was now saing it! With every inhale I listened to it and though about 'sleep' entering my lungs. With every exhale I though about 'awake-ness' leaving my body. This was VERY hypnotic and I could feel myself going to sleep.

Now, I KNOW this was effective because a car would occasionally pass by and wake me up. I didn't realize that I was actually almost asleep until a distraction woke me. I though, "This is working!" So whenever I would be awken a little I would remember to focus on breathing and continue to do the chant.

Before I knew it images began to appear but I was completely aware. Almost like I was still awake, But I somehow knew I was dreaming. As the images got more and more clear I could feel myself slipping away. But as this happened, I was reminded to keep chanting, "You are Lucid, you are dreaming."

Twice, I was slightly startled by a very intense tingling that ran down my body from my head to my feet. I was like I was going numb, or the feeling you get when your leg goes to sleep. It was so interesting I started to almost wake-up but went right back into the chant and listened to my breathing again. It happened again a minute or so later but I was ready for it and ignored it. Then, I began to dream!

      Lucid Dream 1

At first I was just walking through doors, Castle doors. The walls were grey stone like your typical movie castle. The doors were made of large vertical wooden slats held together with wrot-iron cross braces. The handles were made of a big loop of iron and made that cliche' "big-door" opening sound. A cool thing I now remember is that the whole place was echoing. My steps, the creeks of the doors, and the clank the metal handle made when it hit the door.

This didn't seem too interesting but I didn't care. I knew I was dreaming and was happy to be there. So, I just went with it. As I continued from one door to the next, to the next... I got deeper and deeper in; in sleep, in dreaming, in clarity. I looked down at one point and saw that the room I was in had no floor to the right or left. I was walking across a bridge and there was a VERY deep and dark pit under me. It was cool because I could here the echo still.

Suddenly, the castle I was in turned out to be a Castle on the PC Game I frequently play; Raven Shield. I was in one of the maps in the game! The colors were very bright just like a video game and it had a pixelated quality about the place. The funny thing was that I knew the map and could remember where to go.

I somehow had a pistol too. It was up in front of my field of vision just like a typical "First-Person-Shooter" game. It was pretty amusing. So I went with it. I knew that there was a "Tango" behind this next door I came to, so I was causcous and slow. Very stealth-like. The guy opened the door and began shooting at me, so I hit the deck and fired off a few rounds. I stopped shooting but stayed focused on where I knew he would pop-out his head. Of course, he did. So I put one in his chest I think.

Edit: I remembered another part. As soon as I shot the bad-guy, I took-off! Vertically! I burst out of the cieling which was glass and as I exited the building it kinda went into slow motion and I could hear and feel the glass shattering. My first instinct was to stay very clam because I knew that this was too early to be flying! After all, this was my first attempt at a 'forced' LD. So I told myslef, "Stay calm, let's not fly." I think that explains the next part. The dreamscape totally changed.

There may have been a lapse in the dream but the next thing I remember is being in a house now, going up stairs (still with the gun in hand). I somehow knew there was a young woman at the top of the stairs I was to meet. Gun still drawn, I went very slow because I knew that it was helping me somehow. I somehow knew that if I tried to hurry, that I would be exerting too much control and I might wake up.

Edit: I remembered a part I left out. There was a point before I went up the stairs when a small yapping dog ran up to me. This is very important as I now know one of my dream-signs. I knew it was going to latch onto me and try to bite me. This has happened in MANY of my dreams. It's always a small dog or cat and I am always afraid that it is going to come bite me. So as usual, I grab it very firmly by the next so it can't bite me and carefully pull him off me. I can sometimes feel his teeth and claws scarthing me as i pull him away. I can also usually feel him biting at my hands as I am holding him by the neck. I then look for a place throw him. Sometimes in past dreams I try to throw the animal very hard against a wall so as to kill him or just knock him out so he will stop biting me. But this time, I just threw him down a set of stairs. (Somehow i was now at the tlop of the stairs looking down).

As I came to the top of the stairs, I saw someone I recognized. I can't remember now who it was but I remember thinking, "This isn't who I wanted to see," since I was hoping she would be very attractive and that the dream might go 'somewhere' very fun!

After another lapse in the dream I was in another map (or level) of the Raven Shield game. I was again ascending stairs and I somehow knew there was another young woman at the top of these. When I got to the top and turned the corner, there she was in a wooden chair. At first I couldn't see her face clearly. I actually saw the head of this girl go from blurry to her actual head and face. (A very funny and odd note is that at one point i think i saw her head almost become a clown, red hair and all!?!?) Anyway, it happened to be a friend of an ex-girlfriend. She was wearing a turquoise (sp?) skirt and a matching white top with some turquoise trim. This outfit is actually one that another friend of thiers' has worn before. (To clarify, my ex-gf Sammi, has to good friends. The girl in the chair was one friend but was wearing the other friends clothes) The reason I think I remember this outfit is because after a softball game of mine one night, she mooned us in it. Well, actually her friend pulled it up. I don't remember either of her friends names though. Anyway, as soon as I went over to her and tried to talk to her, I woke up.

Now I should mention that although I was completely Lucid during the dream, I wasn't trying to exert any control, until I tried to interact with the girl in the chair. I don't think this is what caused me to wake-up though. It was getting late in the am and cars were driving past every now and then. I heard one pass as I woke up.

Thanks for the Welcome and the advice. Ya, I think part of the reason I wake up is due to being excited. ESPECIALLY when it's a sex dream. This usually results in waking up at THE MOST unfortunate moment.

Also, if I try too hard to control a dream I usually wake up. I am going to go research some methods of dream control and try them out tonight.

      Lucid Dream 2

Last night I was exhausted. I went to bed with the hopes of trying some dream control. However, I was just too tired. I made up my mind to just get to sleep first, then when you wake up in the middle of the night later, try then.

After waking much later, I decided I would try it. It took what seemed like a half hour to finally start to get anywhere as I kept getting distracted. I began to enter a dream of wakling through corridors and doorways again. This time I was in a mansion or big hotel. I think it was actually another map on the Raven Shield game again. (Funny, I haven't played in weeks!) Finally, I had that buzzing, tingling, sting and roaring in the ears that overwhelmed me and suddenly I took off! I began moving at light speeds through the halls and I thought, "Holy crap this is sweet!" So I went with it and tried to see how fast I could go. I grint my teeth, lowered my brow and accelerated. I was going so fast that all I could see was a blur off color off to the sides.

Unfortunately, I woke up. That was it. Very quick but VERY intense. I decided that was enough as it would take too long to get back in.
