Had this dream a few weeks ago.

There was a "main character" - a person, not me, whose perspective I saw things from, whose body I occupied. But she wasn't be - she was definitely female, very strong sense of that, a little short but boyish. Quiet, competent, respected - position in the military?

There was something very bad happening in the spaceship she (I) was on. There were power failures, murders - I remember one scene specifically in which she was in a room with other girls her age (between fifteen and twenty) and wrapped up in blankets, there were doors bursting open and slamming, someone was dead - there may have been an epidemic? That would make sense, given the deaths and fear and general pallor of the place (both emotional and physical, in terms of atmosphere). I remember having a sense of this ship as massive, planet-sized, spherical with these orbiting ring-like structures that were somehow functional. And it was floating directionlessly in space, with nothing nearby, no evident means of propulsion. Earth was never mentioned, not once.

She talked to someone and the next thing I remember was her standing on the surface of this desert planet, huge and arid, with a yellowish gold sky and red terrain. The thing was that it was humid, but sticky and dry all at the same time. All of the native people were bowing down, foreheads in the dust, towards this figure that was standing about a hundred feet off with a knife - something about making a sacrifice. She (I) knew that they were making the sacrifice to end this plague (possibly related to the one on the shift, I remember her/me thinking that?) but knew it wouldn't work. It was mere superstition. But there were still people dying, and if they would only wait for a cure instead of killing people...

She wanted to rescue the sacrifice (he was the spitting image of my, the dreamer's, brother, but not him - same name and face, but not him). There were abandoned train tunnels under the surface of this planet. She and the sacrifice and the priest were the only ones standing. When the priest made a stabbing motion, she recognized this as him about to kill the sacrifice (who was standing like 150 feet away from both her and the priest). She dived to tackle him to the ground (warping space, btw, but it didn't seem so - just one of those dream things where you're suddenly somewhere else) and they/we fell through the surface of the earth into a train that........

The next thing I remember is her returning to the ship, only to find out that, to survive, the humans there turned themselves into fuel for the ship, living in these coccoons on the circular part of the ship or working as laborers. In fact, she had been gone so long they had started to evolve into these strange and bulbous insectoid creatures, with maggotskin and red eyes. She was horrified, not only that she had been gone so long, but that while she was gone, they had given up their humanity so drastically when (to her) it was clear that they could have survived intact.

The next thing I remember is her standing on the surface of the old desert planet alone, with skeletons curled on the ground, the priest gone but skeletons where the worshippers used to be, and feeling very very old and very very alone.

      First night - recall

I set an alarm for 06:00 and when it went off I immediately laid back down in bed to try and remember my dreams. I fell back asleep before writing them down; tonight I will leave a notebook on my windowsill.

These are the fragments I remember:

      1) Losing something and then having it returned. It wasn't financially valuable, but emotionally so.

      2) Learning that it was okay, there really is no such thing as Harlequin Itchyosis, and that they had all been hoaxes or mistakes.

Don't google that if you don't have a thick skin and strong stomach... Interesting, though, but Harlequin disease never affected me that much. I wonder why it showed up, although I did think about it yesterday.

      motifs: sickness, being disappointed
