      Smile ~Artist's Dream Journal ~

This might be my first post or my last - I'll see how often I dream!

Anyway, I haven't had any nightmares for a while. I experienced many nightmared as a child, due to various reasons. Nowadays, I have wired dreams, that are sometimes interesting & moving. Sometimes they involve other worlds & amazing creatures. Thankfully I don't experience bad dreams too often now. I want to be able to lucid dream one day at will - so I can go back and revisit dream, and perhaps switch on the light in the dark.

      Red Light District of Horrors

Sometimes I'm whey too sensitive to what's on the news, and it affects my dreams.

Anyway, the dream was set in a street not far from me. In the day time it's busy - full of ethnic food shops & takeaways. At night the street lights up from all the neon lights of the take away.

But in the dream it was night time and not many people on it - there wasn't much light - only a few places were open. The dream was set near the end of this street, where there is a big crossroad.

The main difference is that this street was a red light district in the dream(it isn't in the daytime at all). There was a menacing atmosphere, and I remember not feeling safe. I crossed the road to the other side, where there was a small narrow street, more like an alley which doesn't exist in real life.

This alley had some kind of arch connecting the building at the sides above, basically it signified that this this alley really was the heart of this red light district. You sometimes see these kind of alleyways in Soho London.

This alley was MUCH darker - it was lit purely by the low, dim lights if the shop along it. It was so dark I almost couldn't see to the end of it.....I didn't want to go to the end of it anyway - the place was really horrible, had a terrible foreboding sick atmosphere. I don't know why I was there, I wasn't looking for anything, just exploring.

I think I saw a man standing outside the shop to the left. I followed in, wanting to see what was inside there. He was dressed in vaguely late 19th century or early 20th century clothes. There was a lurid light in his shops - green and red. He went to the till area. Above on the wall behind him there was a selection of cross bones. He sold curious things - I didn't see them but I kind of 'knew' what eh sold - things like skulls, weapons, animals & strange things in jars....

He picked one of the crossbows off the walls and showed it off. He wanted me to guess what era it was from - I was kind of close but not quite - it was late 18th century used for hunting small animals. He seemed subtly proud of himself when he corrected me, and proud of the crossbow. I was getting uncomfortable and I left to go back to the main street. I didn't like the fact that it was so dark and was scared of it.

It was then I saw what really horrified me. Opposite the shop that I'd just been to, there was another shop with large front windows. In it there were corpses being displayed in the shop window in sex clothes & outfits you'd see in the cheapest sex shop. I remember thinking what a sick shop owner he must be. It was horrible, really shocking....and I hurried away as fast as I could and woke up.

Wow, that last part is quite disturbing. Good luck with attaining LDs! If you ever make your way back there in an LD, you should do something about that sicko shop owner.

Interesting dream. That shop at the end is realy disgusting. I agree with exdreamer, you should go back and take care of who ever owns that shop. I look forward to seeing your other dreams and watching you become lucid, your dreams seem like they have a suspensful feel which is fun to read.

I plan to switch the light on! If there isn't one, I'll manifest one so that daylight will flood the place.

It was much scarier because of the shop lights, and becuase down the alley was so dark. As I said I'm quite influenced by what I see in the media - and there is a high profile case going at the moment about a man murdering prostitutes - it's all very horrible, and I've deliberately not read any of the details becuase I know my dreams get affected, as we've already seen!!!

I've had more disturbing dreams like that before - one was so real I cried for about 20mins after! I have no idea why, becuase I really hate gory stuff in real life. I hardly watch horror films, becuase I just get upset to easily lol.

One quite strange one was years ago. I dreamt that a plague had broken out over the world - some kind of heart disease that caused madness & sudden death I think. I was one of few female scientists working to try and develop a vaccine for it. We were puzzled as to what was causing this disease.

Then one day me and another female scientist were in my kitchen, when I discovered that I had the disease too, and that I had to act fast to get rid of it. For some reason, I knew the cause was coming from inside the head.

Soooo.......I took my own head off. Goodness knows how you can still see and move after that, but hey, it was a dream. So there I was holding my head over the kitchen sink. I tipped it upside down so I could take a look at the inside of the neck end. There I found a insect's nest! Like there were rows and rows of them buried and scuttling inside the flesh. I then realised this was the cause of the disease and I had to fix it. Quite matter-of-factly, I grabbed a spoon, and started to scoop them out and throw them into the sink, and then got a disinfectant and poured it all over it, knowing it would stop them from coming back!

This is a set of dreams I copied from another post I made -

A year or more ago, when I wasn't so stressed, I used to have an abundance of weird &wonderful dreams.

Some of the clearest ones involved post-apocalyptic worlds/dimensions. Sometimes I could start to recognize the same kind of landscape, like they were pieces if a larger jigsaw puzzle.

In one I was walking along a hot dry city - I felt it wasn't on this earth. Everything had been abandoned -there were buildings that had been abandoned and telephone cables had been brought down. Everything was quiet and dead. Then all of a sudden I saw giant half-human half-reptile women walking through the city. They were at tall as telephone poles. I remember hiding behind a car and staring up in amazement/horror. I realized that as everyone had died in some sort of incident, these were the only creatures left in this place.

I listened to the Host of the Seraphim a few weeks later, by Dead Can Dance, and the atmosphere in that song is EXACTLY what I felt in the dream - it REALLY hit the nail on the spot. I was so amazed how this one track could capture what I felt like in these dreams. As I listened more and more to that song, I started having more frequent dreams....

One involved me in some kind of war in another planet/dimension. A battle had broken out in a city located in a giant underground cavern - the last strong hold of my race in the dream. The civilisation was at once technically advanced but many of the buildings of the city were made with mud, and everything was bathed in a blue light. Everything had been ravaged by war with some alien creatures. I was one of the last fighters. I remember loading my gun and my adrenaline being really high as I stalked some of the streets trying to hide myself from these creatures. They didn't have physical form in the same way as we did - more like vague shapes. I could hear some of the other fighters having trouble, some shooting, some dying. We were trying to figure out each other's locations.

As I looked at what was left of the streets, I got flashback of the the city used to look like before the war broke out, like a film. It was my home & I felt sad that the streets that were once so familiar to me were now so different. I walked down one street and got flashbacks of a lively colourful market - the light wasn't blue, it was warm and light even though the city was in a massive cave. The buildings were a warm yellow colour, & full of people.

In the end I think we won the battle & I don't remember much after.
