SHOULD you? Uh... Yes, if you want to. No, if you dont want to. Depends what you want to get out of a dream journal.

The weird thing with writing down dreams as soon as you remember them or not, is I find the memory of a dream changes over time.
If I dream something interesting I usually write it down as soon as I wake up, and then a few years later I will remember the dream and go back and read the journal again and little realise my memory is wrong, what I wrote down is pretty different to how I remember it years later. Maybe thats just me though.

Oh right. I didnt look what forum this was posted in!

Well it could help because one way of getting lucid is to recognise a dream sign (something that occurs often in your dreams). For me I seem to be lost on trains quite often.
Writing them down might help you reconise something that reoccurs in your dreams that you didnt realise before, and it might get it into your head that when you see this image, you will realise that you are dreaming. Writing stuff down might help 'fix' it in your head, I suppose.

I would say anything that gets you thinking about dreaming will help you get lucid. The more you think about your dreams whilst awake, the more likely you will think about it whilst dreaming and then (hopefully) realise and have a lucid dream.

Oh.... well i guess that makes sense. But these are dreams that i got like 7 years ago, so my dream signs have probably changed Like my dreams are 100% different from being chased by a cardboard dinosaur through a cardboard field with a cardboard house

      lol
Well maybe some other dreamers on this site can give you more advice on this. My view is every little helps, and if it gets your mind focussed on the task then it can't hurt to write them down. The most important thing is to do reality checks as much as possible. This is the technique that worked for me.

Do you write down the dreams you remember each night now? Because if not I would suggest you do this too.
