      Zero Recall

As I have been trying to recall dreams I had thought I was going somewhere... I remembered about 4 dream fragments in two weeks. I think. I'm not even sure they were dreams anymore. They seem more like hallucinations I had while half asleep.

Before this time I have had zero dream recall. I have never woken up in the middle of the night remembering a dream or woken in the morning to remember a dream. If I lived under a rock I would have had absolutely no concept of dreams or dreaming.

So I've tried setting alarms to go off 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5 hours into sleep and got nothing. One time I slept through all of them or unconsciously turned them off and went back to bed. Last night I woke up and I lied in bed for a few minutes trying to remember anything and came up with nothing every time.

I've also been using the "I will remember my dreams" thing repeating it to myself as I fall asleep. What can I do to build up my recall from nothing? It seems like a dream journal isn't helping if I can't write anything in it.

Do you recall at least feelings?

Some people need some more time but everybody can have some decent recall. If you recall at least a word, a feeling, a though, you should record it. Even if you recall total blackness.

Use this mantra, "I remember my dreams." Our subconscious is lazy... if you say "I will..." your subconscious will take it easy... Saying, "I do" You are saying it in present tense... now... in this moment... in this night. This might sound stupid, but it is big truth.

That is pretty crazy. I will try this. I never thought of it like that, but it makes a lot of sense, especially because I am a huge procrastinator

Also, new question, it takes me super long to fall asleep. Like, laying there for an hour or more. Is that normal?

Idk if you could call that insomnia or not, but try taking melatonin about thirty minutes before bed. That should get you asleep quickly.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

i've been having recall some nights.. And other nights i can't recall nothing except the feeling that i had some exciting dream. Who knows what happeneed in my dream though.

      that sucks.

I'm pretty sure recall has to do with with the type of brain you have. Some people remember tons and details. I rarely do. Just like in real life, i'm forgetful.
The only way i remember things in real life is to write them down on notebooks.

But when i do JOurnaling..is AFTER the dream has happened..so it's difficult to keep it in my mind by the time i wake up. The EVENT(dream) probably happened a few minutes before you started getting into awaking state.

That may be the reason why we don't remember.

LIke for example say You come to awakening state at 5:30am.. and you do remmber at least alittle of y our dream or nothing but you remember the feeling. That's probably cause the dream happened or ended at 5:25am
So yeah alarms work if y ou put them right when yo're dreaming.. BUT i'm pretty sure your dreams don't happen at exact intervals everyday.

Books say they do.. thus Labarge said to put the alarm at every 90 minutes. But i've put the alarms and sometimes i do remember pretty good Becuse probably that day the alarm did happen at the time of my dream.
But other days i put the alarms at the same times and i have no recall.which means that day i didn't have dreams at those times.

I'm pretty nub at all this, but I've read alot. Things I've learned are that once you wake up, after 5 minutes, you will have forgotten big part of your dreams. If you wake up and start thinking on what you have to do next, or what you have to do during the day, those thoughts will fill your mind and will replace the thoughts of dreams you could have remembered. Also, once you wake up, try to stay still; once you start moving, its harder to remember.
Another tip, if you simply can't remember, try to think random things. I've personally experienced some sort of 'Deja Vu' during the day, that make me remember dreams I didn't remember when I woke up. So, for example, I see my guitar after waking up, and this makes me remember of a whole dream. Uhm, what else... Make sure you get enough sleep.. I believe (might be wrong) that a regular sleep cycle increases sleep recall.

Please excuse my english, my main language is spanish.
Good luck, don't give up! Hope I helped with something. have a nice day (:

It usually takes a couple of days to kick start my recall from nothing to a few a night. All I do is write down everything from the night. It's off because when I try too hard, I usually never even remember one dream.
