      Seriously?! No REM waking device?!

If an EEG can detect all stages of sleep... how hard is it to find a device that will wake you after each REM sleep cycle?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what every dedicated person who wants to recall their dreams is looking for?

People seem to have varying amounts of success with dream recall and certain techniques, but it seems to me that waking up right after REM seems to be completely possible, and the best way to consistently assure high-probability recall.

I have used my iphone application "Sleep Cycle" to monitor my body movements at night, and have had a small amount of success waking up during lighter sleep with recall ability. If this sleep information is at all helpful, it shows I have different patterns of sleep almost every night (although I do wake between 3:45 and 4:15 just about every night). I sleep and wake at the same time every night, but always get inconsistent results.

Devices such as Zeo seem like they have potential but have no function for REM Alarms, and products like the REM-Dreamer sleep mask get very mixed reviews (the few I did find). After asking Zeo support about a REM wake function, they said many customers have requested this feature but it is not supported.

I'm upset that my only (unrealistic) option would be to buy a real EEG system and write custom software for it to wake myself after each major REM cycle...

Grrrr... better step up my mantra. =P

Hey, this is exactly what I thought I once participated in a student science competition and another team had "invented" something like this, well actually the opposite, which was an alarm clock that monitored skin resistance (with some fancy wires and stuff) and then would wake you up during non-REM so people would have it easier to start the day. That was like 6 years ago, but they were maybe around 12-14 when they built it

I would love to have such a thing, and maybe I will one day give it a try to create one myself (of course something more fancy than what these children did, with more configuration etc) and I would of course publish the instructions. I just don't have the time and money now to do that (college student )...

So for now I will do what you do: "step up my mantra."

Scientists usually waste their time doing other useless stuff instead of making something of use.

Like can you believe they still haven't made Virtual reality goggles with sensors yu put on your arms etc to feel stuff also.
That should be easy but they still don't make it.

Alaska if no one else wants to do it maybe you could try to make a device by yourself and i don't think you will need to go as far as to buy and EEG machine because if some 12 year old can make a similar device SIX years ago you should be able to scrounge up some info from the interwebs and make something for yourself
