Dream signs - seeing loved ones, deceased and otherwise.

I had a lucid dream last night - my fourth! Woot!!!

What triggered me becoming lucid was seeing both my son, who is stationed halfway around the world right now, and my Dad, who passed away nine months ago. Seeing the both of them together clued me in to the fact that I was dreaming. I have a question, though.

My Dad has been in other dreams of mine but it hasn't always triggered lucidity. And I often have dreams with my first wife in them and she died in a car wreck back in 1998. But seeing her in the dream has never triggered lucidity. Does anyone know why that might be? I'm just a bit puzzled by this.

Hey you're halfway up to my LD count now!! Congratulations!!

As to your question, I don't know - but then so many totally crazy things happen in dreams all the time. I mean, if you can fly around and not realize you're dreaming, what's seeing a long-dead loved one, ya know? That's actually not as strange as flying considering we see them all the time in our memory and imagination... to the inner world of the mind that's just as real as their actual physical presence. So really maybe the question should be - why did seeing your dad and son together have a different effect and actually trigger lucidity?

Well, seeing my son made me question the dream because I knew he was on a ship halfway around the world. Then seeing my Dad made me realize it was a dream because I knew that he had died. As for seeing my late wife in my dreams, the only thing I can think of is that I'm so happy to see her and be with her again that I don't even think about it being a dream; I just go with the flow. My daughter is also a lucid dreamer; I'll have to talk to her about it and see if she has had any dreams with her Mom in them and if she has, if any of them have been lucid.
