Question About Reality Checks

Hi, this is my second posting. I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask this question, but there is something kind of bugging me. I've read on various websites and have read about how reality checks work. I have often read that people who do reality checks in their dreams, after identifying their dreamsign, would say something to the fact like, "I wonder if I am dreaming," and then do a reality check. My question is do you start to become lucid before you do your reality check or after. The reason why this is puzzling to me is I've always thought that saying something like that would indicate conscious thought. I was under the impression that a reality check in your dream was more like a reflex action after you've identified your dreamsign. I'd appreciate it if someone could answer this for me. Thanks

Yea, I usually do a reality check, when my awaraness/lucidity starts growing. So I start to become lucid and I confirm it with a reality check just to make sure that I'm dreaming. So I'd say you start becoming lucid before the reality check (atleast for me). I hope this helps
