Awareness at all times - practice troubles.

So, I've been trying to excersize my awareness and memory to help with remember dream signs and my altogether awareness of reality. The problem is, I have the worst memory out of all of the people I know. I'm notorious for forgetting things among my friends and my family. Wherever I go, people know that I've left something. Either my phone, my key, my cards, my paperwork, my computer components. Not any specific thing, just whatever I'll desperately need later is the thing I'll forget.
I've been trying to improve this, and while I was reading Stephen LeBerge's book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" I came across a daily excersize to improve the state of your awareness at all times. It gives you a small list of things to memorize in the morning, so when you see those things- you do a ponder for a moment, on the topic of 'Am I dreaming?'. I'm always fairly confedent when I read the list, I think to myself- this is cake. I'll definitly point see these coming.

So far, it's been five days. I haven't hit one target, unless I see one of my targets just a few moments after reading about it(but that hardly counts). I have remembered each individual target anywhere from ten minutes late, to a half hour late. I've often wondered if there's a mental dissorder that doesn't allow your mind to remember the single thing you want to remember the most at any given time, because if there is- that is the story of my life. Does any reader have a tip or two on the topic of developing a good memory?
We may guess that in dreams life, matter, and vitality, as the earth knows such things, are not necessarily constant; and that time and space do not exist as our waking selves comprehend them. Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon." H.P. Lovecraft

      Seeya, and good luck

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
