Thread: Concerning dream signs

Dream signs can be anything you see often in dreams, in a house/building, school, beach, class, friends (real or not), anything that makes you notice or aware in dreams and obviously is in your DJ.

1.) I used to write my dreams as detailed as I possibly could...I've had dreams that went across a page or more in my DJ....but once I started remembering 5 dreams a night, this got very, very tedious...so now I only write down the key stuff, anything that stuck out. Its really up to you. Personally, all I need is a few prominent details to jog my memory.

2.) Dream signs are SUPPOSED to be reoccurring, otherwise it sorta defeats the purpose. A dream sign is supposed to be a sort of bridge between your waking life and your dreaming life. A good dream sign is something that appears fairly often in both your dreams AND in waking life. That way, in waking life, you'll train yourself to Reality Check whenever you see the dream sign...and when you see it in your dreams you will do a reality check because of that correlation.

3.) I, personally, don't use/have very many dream signs. I practice all-day-awareness, which sort of elimnates a need for relying on dramsigns...however, as a beginner, they are very useful, as long as you always perform a thorough reality check whenever you see the sign. If you get into a habit of just half-assing the RCs, then they'll be half-assed when you do them in the dream.

But what if there aren't any reoccuring objects/situations/whatever in my dreams? Does that happen sometimes? Because I really do not see anything reoccur in my dreams :/.

And did you find that writing them down in full detail helped enough to make it worthwhile? I used to write only keywords, making my "recorded dreams" only 2 lines of text, but now I write down what I did in my dreams and possibly how I felt at certain moments but that's probably about it.

I think it helped a lot in the beginning. Just devoting the time and energy to writing out a full page per dream really cemented it in my mind. Made it feel more important, and therefore helped me remember my dreams more easily.

You'll learn along the way that the dreams are all about the realm of the subconscious...and you have to find little tricks to make it work in your favor.

It might be nice to not have dream signs. I think the dream signs are often associated with bad experiences. In my case I was imprisoned in Cuba, and that is a sign that appears in many of my dreams. Of course, the situations that occur in my dreams are not identical, but the signs are clear. Sometimes I'm in a booth with many other men sleeping around very close to each other. When I go to the toilet is just an outhouse. Sometimes I dream that I'm back to Cuba and the government is accusing me of something I did no do, then I think that I will lose my job in USA if I do no return in time an so on.....

1. You should write down as many details as you can.
2. I do have dream signs, but since I don't RC on them, I never got lucid by a dream sign.

If you don't have dream signs (something recurring in your dream AND waking life), don't worry. You will either find some later, or you can RC on different things. Here is a link to RCs and when to RC.

Dream signs seems to be a forgotten art around here. Personally I have a "certain feeling" that my dreams have, and this has been a good thing to concentrate on for dream signs. Remember that it can be any of the 5 senses that are signs in your dreams since all 5 senses are involved.

if you can't find anything, then don't worry about it and check out other methods. After becoming lucid you should be able to find one easier than now, if ever you wish to try with that induction method again.
