A dream journal is a good way to record your dreams and can help you recall, but it is good to figure out what makes you lucid and what makes you remember your dreams. My dream journal system talks about it (in sig). Also the dream recall compendium that zoth linked is amazing! I would recommend three more ways to remember your dreams.
The color blue! Being outside can increase recall because of the color blue. I heard that when i was a child and I have no idea where from. Haha. It might just be expectation, but I used to have a blue shower and I would remember dreams in there all the time.
Going through your previous day. When you go through the previous day you have a chance of finding the seed of the dream. If a part of a dream reminds you of part of your day (regardless of how it seems to connect) it is harder to forget and easier to remember the dream as a whole.
Exercise. Get your body tired and your mind active, good for recall, good for lucidity.
