      Dream Recall Help.

So i recently got interested in Lucid dreaming, posted an introduction and was informed about some techniques and where to start. I picked up Stephen Laberges, Exploring the world of lucid dreamign and have been reading it for the past few days.

So far ive started a dream journal and ive got the the part in the book where it advises you to not continue learning until you can recall atleast one dream per night.

I go to bed at about 10pm - 12pm latest each night and wake up around 9:30am, 10:00am in the morning. What would be the best way to set an alarm, or multiple alarms so that i can wakeup after a REM period and increase my chances of recaling a dream which i can write down?

Even if i dont recall a dream should i write and entry every morning stating i didnt have a dream? And what other things can i do to help with dream recall?

Any help is appreciated! I cant wait to dream

Best time to wake up is around 6 hours into sleep +- 20 mins. You should be able to remember a dream at this time. Always write down your dream first thing in the morning, do nothing else, have the journal beside your bed. Have the intent to remember your dream.
That's all there is really, eventually if you keep trying you will start to remember your dreams more and more. If you don't remember any, right a short line that you will tomorrow or so.

My schedule is about the same as yours. Lately I wake up three times per night (because of strong motivation) and record anything I recall, plus I note down the times. You can use those times to notice when you seem to have best recall etc. For me that's anytime after 6 hours of sleep. I also use the phrases 'I (will) remember my dreams' before each sleep and 'what was I dreaming?' after each waking.

Hope that helps. I remember the first time I started working on recall when I discovered lucid dreaming, for the first week I would mostly get impressions or fragments, but as I kept on they became a mix of fragments and dreams, and the amount increased. So just keep on and hold onto your intentions! =)

Oh, and you can continue reading about techniques and such, it just means that before you try MILD or WBTB, you should have decent recall to remember your results. That way you can read over the techniques enough to know how to do them while still practicing your recall.

I've read that using a jarring alarm isn't the best idea (The Power of Creative Dreams), because it jolts you awake and dream memories can flee. You might try waking up with some (soothing) music. If you worry that it won't wake you up enough, maybe try using a mantra, 'I will wake up before my alarm/after each dream'.

You should also totally check out the Dream Recall Compendium for some good info.

Wow thanks for the help dutchraptor and Keitorin! I usually wake up a few times (atleast twice) because i tend to drink before i go to bed. Hopefully i can work on timing it for that 6 hour mark or so for best results though.

So basically note down even if i dont have a dream each morning when i awake, saying i will have one tommorow, and when i wake up i say to myself "What was i dreaming?"
Also have the intent of having remembering a dream each night.

Il keep trying these techniques though so thanks for the help, i know its probablly not the easiest thing to start doing right away so like i said id rather be able to recall a dream each night before going too far into techniques so i know ill be ready once i begin really focusing on that.

Another thing you can do that I, personally, find helpful is to use mantras. As I'm going to sleep I say to myself, "I wake up and remember my dreams." After a few days I notice a very distinct change in my recall as I begin to remember more and more dreams

Wow, i cant believe it but i actually remembered a fragment of my dream this morning and im stoked!

I barely remembered it but i was walking around my old friends house with him and his sister, i picked up this necklace that was on a dresser and then his mom walked in and seen me with the necklace and kind of freaked out on his sister for having it.

Then all of sudden im outside with my old friend and were shovelling snow in his front yard, and that was when i woke up lol. Anyways, i cant wait to keep recalling more and more dreams so i can reach my goal of remembering one dream each night.

      Congrats on progress!
Another technique that can help with recall, is not really that much of a technique, but rather general memory practice: try recalling events of whole day before going to bed as detailed as possible. That helped me alot when i was starting out.

Good job. One thing that always helps me is after collecting a few fragments of dream impressions, read back through your journal entries and try to recall emotional states or images before going to bed. Sometimes it can help put your brain back into that dreaming mindset and ready for another.

Some of my first dream entries are akin to "the color red" or "I think I had a conversation with someone" keep at it, you'll start getting some good ones. :-)

Just an update of my progress so far if anyone is interested. So the last three nights i have actually remembered atleast one dream each night. But last night it was crrazy, i actually woke up three seperate times and remembered a dream each time. Even crazier to me atleast, on my second dream i was at some random house being chased around by a jason vorhees type character. After that dream however i was inside of the house. I woke up and went to the bathroom, lied back down and entered back into this house and met a random girl. This girl brought me to my truck that was parked at the side of the house and said she had a special surprise..

So i got into my truck and all of a sudden she pushed the front of my truck (somehow) and my truck slid on the ice all the way down a whole road, after spinning around and jumping off a ravine, i looked up and was on a snowy hillside. Then i saw a bear attacking a deer, and another bear just below me to the right. I paused and looked for an escape route and then it was pretty strange but the deer started attacking the bear and scaring it away. Well after that the bear continued to eat the deer and walked over to me. He layed down his head and i layed down my head on top of his body, like a dog almost. Then he got up and started attacking me, and i shoved my finger into his eye in which point he left me alone and i traveresed the other side of the hill which had a huge fence leading to a skii resort.

I then climbed up a ladder into the skii resort and asked for some water from some of the people at the event. Then i told them the story of what happened in my dream and when i woke up, it was that much easier to rememeber. Im not sure if this has anyth[ing to do with it, but i was talking to a friend the night before about the wonders of lucid dreaming and how i recently got started trying to do it. I think that had to have some sort of influence with me remebering my dreams alot easier now. Anyways sorry for the whole story, feel free to read if you would like. I just thought i would be great to let you guys know my progress so far! Any feedback is greatl appreciated aswel..
