      Help with dream recall

I recently heard about lucid dreaming, and I decided I should try to have a lucid dream. It seems like the first step is to improve your dream recall.

Problem is, I have terrible dream recall, I haven't remembered a single dream in years.

I have been trying a dream journal for the past week, but every morning I wake up and try to write something, I have nothing to write.
No dream, no fragments of a dream, no feelings, no nothing, arrrrgggghhh!

      What can I do?
      Thanks!

The easiest way to remember a dream is to wake up from it. You can try going to bed and waking at different times, or you can set an alarm every hour through the night, or every hour and a half. If you struggle getting back to sleep, I would recommend the first one. Also, you can just try setting your alarm an hour early and have a 5 minute snooze. That is a really fast way to remember dreams, if you can get back to sleep.

Also, before you grab your journal, before you do anything, lay 100% still when you wake. When you start moving it starts to turn a good dream into fragments, for me at least. Once you get the plot down in your head, start writing from the beginning and going trough the dream again but this time think of all the details, imagine in your head exactly what you saw in your dream, the sounds your heard, actions you did, ect. The more thought and retracing you put into it the better it hopefully will be. Hope this works for you.

I tried both your ideas, to no avail. I just draw a blank. I'm starting to believe I simply don't dream.

The only thing that happened, was during one of the times I woke up during the night, the words 'female' and 'slightly smaller' popped into my head, so I wrote them down. But I feel as if that's of little relevance.

      Thanks,
      A frustrated dreamer

Patty. Consistency. You tried both of them once. Try them for a month and let us know if you see some change.
