      Can't improve my dream recall

      Hi,
Here is my jurney so far (~1 month)-
The first 5 nights I used Melatonin (3mg) just before going to bed and woke up 5 times to write my dreams (4.5 hours after falling asleep and every 90 min. afterwards). On the first night I recorded 3 dreams- the first two were 4 words each and the last one was about 5 lines. Three nights later and it already was 2 dreams, 30~ lines each. Amazing improvment.
The next 4 nights I didn't wake up in the middle of the night and just wrote what I could remember in the morning- nothing.
On the 5th night I tried waking up in the middle of the night again, wrote 3 dreams- 2 of them were 5~ lines and the last one 30~ lines.
The next week I wrote nothing besides 2.5 lines on night.
The next night tried waking up a couple of times again- remembered 3 words, but had 3 images in my mind, which I drew.
Started improving slowly again, the next night I wrote 7.5 lines, one picture.
And again, downfall- 1.5 lines the next night.
And again, huge improvment- 23 lines for 2-3 dreams, next night 40 lines, 1 picture, 2 dream.
2-3 lines/night decrease for the next two nights, and again no dream recall.
And one last improvment, from 3 lines to 24, no recall, 1 line and a picture.
For the last two nights I woke up 4-5 times a night, used 200mcg Huperzine A in the first (no recall) and 3 mg Melatonin tonight (3 lines).
It doesn't really matter if I use Huperzine A 30 min. before going to bed, after 4.5 hours of sleep, 3mg or 6mg of Melatonin before bed, waking up in order to recall dreams or not, the improvment is nonlinear and drives me nuts!
When going to bed I affirm the phrase "I remember my dreams" and I take 400mg magnesium citrate and 50mg zinc 40-60 min. before going to bed.
Also tried NST- worked amazingly for 1 night, 0 results the next two. tried affirming I wake up after every dream and remember it- worked for a few nights and then again no results.
      Any suggestions?

You don't need supplements to build great dream recall. Mostly it is a desire to recall dreams, consistent behavior over time (reaching for dream memories every single time you find yourself awake), and changing how you approach waking life (pay attention to your experiences). It is normal for dream recall to fluctuate, even vary wildly from night to night. It depends on many factors including how well rested you are, whether you're stressed or anxious or calm, etc.

      Hey there,

In addition to Fryingman's advice, are you sure you're not paying too much attention to the results and too little to the dreams themselves? Its easy to get worked up over how many dreams you remembered, how many details or lines in your dream journal, and forget to actually to actually appreciate and look in depth at the dreams themselves. Sometimes, it can help to stop worrying about how much you didn't remember, and focus on what you do recall.

      Just my 2 cents,
