Hey! I’m trying to learn to lucid dream and I’m willing to take my time, but one problem: I don’t often remember my dreams at all. Usually like once a month do I remember a really vivid one.
How can I use my dream journal if there’s nothing to write down? Is there a better way besides it to do so? (I enjoy writing them but can’t remember any.)
What I do to improve recall is, when I wake up, I just lay still and keep my eyes closed, and think back. Memories start coming in. I allow as many memories to come back as possible, THEN I write them down. Writing them down can even spark more memories, when you have enough to go on.
If you fall back asleep too easily, then sit up and keep your eyes closed, and again just think back.
I usually keep my eyes closed for a good 5 minutes. It's surprising how many memories can come back.
If you wake up and immediately get up, your mind is pulled away from the dreamworld. So the trick here is to stay half-connected to the dreamworld when you wake up, so you can transfer the subconscious stuff into the conscious.
Yeah, I second just staying still upon awakening. It can also help to remind yourself before you fall asleep that once you wake up, the first thing you will think will be, "What did I just dream about?" Its been a while since I had to build that habit. I've been thinking "what did I dream of" the first thing when I wake up for... a long time now! But I guess there was a time for me when I would miss it, or only remember it once in a while, until after reminding myself enough times.
Then, there were times when even if I remembered to try to recall my dreams, I still drew a blank. But I guess once you get the feel for what it feels like to remember a dream detail, then it will start to work better. Remembering a dream detail is kind of a unique feeling, I think.
So if you just keep remembering to try, soon as you wake up, you'll eventually get your first dream memory, and ge the "feeling" for it.
