Dream recall fading...
Hello all I'm new to the boards here, but I found this sight and thought it would be great place to become famaliar with.
So onto to my problem...
I began with dream recall and experimenting with reality checks and dream journals and such a few months back. I got very good at dream recall, easily recalling 3-4 dreams with perfect detail everynight. There were even times when I woke up that I knew I had remembered every single dream that i'd had that night, knew it with complete certainty.
Shortly after that I started having lucid dreams, and after a few here and there, I though: "it wasn't all that, and wasn't all it was cracked up to be," so I stopped recalling my dreams and stopped recording things in my dream log.
But after reconsidering, I don't know know if I ever became fully lucid. I certainly never mastered it. It was just something that I had experimented with and became lucid a few times, successfully identified false awakenings, and learned to use the spin technique to remain sleeping. But I never really got to that point that everyone talks about where everything becomes ultra realistic with incredible detail and stuff.
So after a few months I've decide to give it a whirl again, and I started keeping a journal. the problem is that now, my dream recall SUX! I've been using all the same techniques as before, affirming to remember my dreams before I fall asleep, laying still in the same positions while I recall my dreams in the morning, reality checks regularly, but my dream recall has really seemed to lost a step now.
I find myself struggling just to remember the basics or main parts of my dreams. more times than not, I wake up remembering just small fragments and bits and pieces. I can't seem to keep the order of events in line with any clarity.
I'm thinking perhaps it is not at the foremost of my daily thoughts like before, or maybe less of a priority that is the probable cause.
Just wondering, has anyone one else ever had a block like this after a break?

I just put up a post on the same thing!! So I defiantly know what you’re talking about. I tried lucid dreaming for a while about a year ago and am just starting up again. I have fragmented recall now as well. I think the recall will straighten out after a week or two, at least I hope How long have you been trying for? Dream recall is something that is formed through habit; I think it will become more ordered the longer you try. Hopefully for your sake and mine!!
Ps: my post is called “scrambie recal”

I've been at it for a few weeks and still it's fragmented recall. Sometimes it seems that more I try to remember them so i can writed them down later, the more fragmented they become.
I think it's because I'm concentrating on certain details while I wind up loosing others in the process. (order of events, or loosing clarity on parts that I'd previously remembered and such.) I dunno for sure, just a guess.
This morning I remembered 3 dreams almost perfectly when I woke up, but after reviewing it in my head a few times I seemed to loose more and more clarity each time through--to the point now where all I that can recall is so fragmented It's not even worth writing down.
So like I said I think I'm either concentrating too hard, or else I've just got too many things on my mind in the morning that are distracting me.

sounds very similar to my situation, I guess increased stress can have an impact on recall.

Hmmm.... Lately I've had a bad problem with my recall going downhill, and I haven't found a solution. The thing is, I never really quit. I've taken a break or two at the suggestion of several people, but only for a few days. It's just, for the last month, my recall has been slipping away steadily, to the point that now I haven't remembered ANYTHING since Sunday. It's quite depressing.

keep your mind focused on what you want to do, I had a bit of a slip but this morning I remembered one fantastic dream and I know tonight im going to remember more. If necessary use an alarm to wake yourself up during REM
