A dream sign that everyone has..

I read about a few cases on DV about people that were trying to hit someone in a dream had great diffuculty. Like their arms were moving through mud instead of air. I to have this 'problem'. Just this night I tried to hit a bad guy with a shovel and when I swung at him it just slowed down and I hardly touched him.

That triggerd lucidy. To bad I woke up. But this does seem like a good dreamsign. And once you set your mind on it, it's hard to disregard the difficulty of just plain hitting someone.

Are there allso people that do manage to have a good old fist fight in their dreams? Otherwise everyone should pay attention or they are dreaming when hitting someone feels a bit rusty. =)

I wonder or there are more things that everyone has different in their dreams.

Actually It's kind of a RC, however, Hitting someone as a RC might get you into some problems. Anyhow, I find this case less RC like just looking at your hand becouse of the feeling you have when trying to hit someone in a dream. It's easy it see. And I think I am not the only one that fights quite often in their dreams.

That and when you try and run you can barely move.

I used to have this dream when I was a kid (yes I mean more than once) that when it started I opened my eyes and I was under water, so naturally I'd try to lift my body out, but I couldn't. I was stuck there. I was in a bathtub lying down and I couldn't get up. I hated having that dream. :(

Yeah, I have had a few dreams in which I was in a fight or grappling situation that seemed to have a barely noticible slow motion aspect.

I had a dream a few weeks ago in which I was running and it seemed normal.

Yeah I did run too in one of my dreams. It felt normal, not heavy or something.

But alot off people indeed allso have a hard time running :) I guess that's a good DS for those people isn't it?

Yeah, I think it is a good dream sign for those people.
Before I ever became interested in dreaming, I recall hearing people mentioning dreams in which they were running and either going nowhere or running slowly.

I have a total lack of strength in dreams. I can punch someone in a dream, full force, and they wont even flinch, so I hit again and once again nothing happens.

Rather than move slowly when trying to run, I stumble repetedly and end up deciding to crawl, then my arms buckle so I decide to drag myself along, then that turns out to be slower than the stumbling was. It's like when you try to walk normally on an unstable surface and you stumble then stumble again when trying to stand back up.

Ooh, that is a good idea for a dreamsign! When I'm dreaming, and I am running, I feel weighted down and slow. When I was lucid, though, I could run normally and very fast.

I'll have to try and remember that.

In response to the first post on this thread, I have found myself to be able to fight in certain circumstances with Matrix-like abilities. Specifically (this past summer), i had a dream in which i was in a mall-- everything was rendered in a line-polygon matter,much like the last scene of the Matrix 3 when Neo see's orange fiber-optics everywhere-- and i saw a couple buddies. We ended up wrestling, and eventually we got serious, and i was doing time-slowing moves where I was spinning and doing some crazy upsidedown kicks to the face.... I became lucid at that point. Continuing on, i kicked their ass and the guards got called on me in this orange fiber-optic mall and i also fought them in a similar, but conscious style.... that is the only fight i can remember in a dream -- probably because i won :-P

Otherwise, when i run from monsters my feet are 1000 pounds.

Craziest part about these (friendly) fighting dreams is that I remember feeling my body being in its space and throwing punches and kicks and doing flips-- i havent been in karate in over 10 years.

Advice I've heard on punching and fighting, is that you should not try to push your arm forward and let that create the effect. Instead, imagine the opponent being knocked backwards by the force of your punch. In other words, don't focus on the cause (moving your arm), but on the effect (your opponent being hit).
I've had dreams where I could not scream, but I can't remember not being able to move. I've been walking and flying in my LD's, and both seemed to work normally (ehm... in so far as an unaided human flying can be considered normal :P ).

That's good advice, Jalexxi, because I've had problems trying to hit or punch people because I have no force behind the swing at all.

I always thought it was because I've never been in a physical fight in my whole life and maybe I just didn't know what it felt like to actually punch someone.

I guess it won't really work for me, since I can usually run and fight fine in my dreams. I haven't really fought with my fists, but I did give some person a good couple hits in the face with a rake, and tore a chunk out of someone with a pen... And in my nightmares I run like hell and I'm usually pretty fast..

i used to have alot of those or i would get mad in my dream and try to punch a wall or something and my punch would slow to the point where my fist would just tap the wall.
recently, and beyond my explanation, i began being able to punch in my dreams.
in one example....i was fighing with this guy i know and i ended up being able to punch and actually inflict damage (something that has never really happened to me before)
another example.....i got angry and punched the wall but this time i knocked half the wall down

Curiously, in all of my dreams EXCEPT those that take place in the "dark academy," and lucid ones, I have that problem. I have never in a dream wondered about it, but once, it was explained to me in a "class" I was taking that the unitard suit I always wear in "academy" dreams was made specifically to counter that problem, which is why all students and faculty where them whenever I dream about it.

Very bizarre.

I remember once, though, I had a dream that I was being accosted by a Small Yipping Dog that happened to be pure evil, and when I tried to punch him in his obnoxious, evil little face, my fist moved in slow motion, and I couldn't put any proper English behind it. I immediately went lucid, forgot about the dog, and went off to manifest some female companionship.

Just so you know, I do not normally hit small dogs, nor do I paricularly dislike them. This was a special case.

It seems you only feel this sensation when you are TRYING to run but not if u just do it naturally.

Maybe becouse you don't really pay attention to it when you are doing it naturally. Like when I ran in my dream I wasn't in a hurry that much, I allso could have walked.

It's like when I use a PC in a dream. I just do, I don't even 'sence' the mouse, I don't see it. I don't see loading screens, I just see images. That appear to be on the computer.

Maybe like when I would get lucid and try to use a computer, becouse I was aware I wouldn't be able to use it. Not so much aware of being in a dream, more aware of the using of the computer.

Like my mind just skips the electronics and just gives visual output from computers in my dreams.

Maybe it's like that with running too. Becouse you just run, not really paying attention to your legs and such, you can run. But if you think: OH ON A MONSTER BETTER RUN. You would perhaps have more diffuculty...

I feel for you - those damn little yippy dogs! Even though I'm a licensed veterinary technician, doesn't mean we all have to like those hateful little things. Just get a cat and be done with it - the same size and a lot less maintenance! :roll:

But back on topic, I think it's strange that so many people have the same slow-running, -punching, -walking, -whatever experiences. There are sometimes that I can't see properly either - like my vision is clouded, and no matter how wide I open my eyes, I still can't see. These dreams freak me out because losing one's eyesight would have to be one of the most terrifying experiences there is.

This one dream i had, though, I WAS trying to run, and it worked fine. It was wierd, the dream was lucid, but I wasn't. This "professor" has me and a bunch of random DC students outside on some sort of track, and he's making us do windsprints, and explaining that if it weren't for these suits we were wearing, it would be impossible for us to run at all. I thought he was making an allusion to the atmosphere of the area, because the "Dark Academy" (I just call it that because it's dark, and appears to be some sort of academy,) is sort of a dreary place in general, and when you are there, you have the vague impression that you aren't really in Kansas anymore.

I should point out that I (and everyone else) am ALWAYS wearing one of these suits in dreams that take place there, either before or after this particular dream.

Anyway, at the end of the "lesson" he tells "us" that "we're" dreaming. I get indignant and ask him why h didn't tell me that in the first place, and he said "You would have left."

What can I say? He was right, I totally would have.
