less disturbing way to start Dream Recall

I only recently heard of lucid dreaming from my brother, so I found my way to this sight and started my journey two days ago, but I'm realizing some problems. I don't have very good dream recall. I read the main sight (except for the tutorials because my computer couldn't get to them for some reason) and if I try using an alarm clock or drinking lots of water and using the bathroom to wake myself, I'll wake up my family. Can anyone spare any less disturbing techniques for waking up after a period of REM?

Ive heard that telling yourself outloud before you go to sleep "I will wake up after each dream period and remember my dream fully" can help, but for me it did not... everyones different, but maybe this will work for you.

Hello! Welcome to Dream Views! (Cool username. ^_^)
All I pretty much had to say DarthDallas covered. It didn't really work for me either, but it's worked for others. From what I'm told, the key to having this work is really believing in what you're saying.

Alright well instead of an outright, annoying beep noise alarm clock... get citrus alarm clock (a free program on the internet). Play a relaxing music track to wake up to. The great part about citrus alarm clock is that it fades in within a certain time period that you set (fades to max volume in 1 minute, 2 minutes, ect.), so you won't wake up your whole family. By the way the track can't be TOO relaxing... I played an ambient sort of track and it got very very loud before I realized that it was playing.

Also, if your computer is near your bed... get headphones with a long cord (or a cord extender) and somehow attach them securely to your head. They will probably fall asleep so some sort of tape or something...

Thanks for the info and suggestions guys, and I think though that if they sold 50ft long headphones I would attach them to my computer from downstairs (I wish I could, it sounds like cool software).

That is 3 dollars and 15 feet. You can get 60 feet for 10 bucks which is pretty good. Just buy a couple and attach em to each other

It's as if all the actions of the world stopped and the meaning of life was reveal by god himself to me. (Well maybe not, but I didn't know they existed)

Try taking multivitamins and just think about dreaming. Think about dreams that you remember, try to notice how they are different from the real life. Then expand upon these dreams and try to remember how they started and recall similar events. Write some keywords from those dreams in a journal.

The effect of this kind of thinking is very pronounced for some people - I myself and a bunch of people on these forums experienced an avalance of recalls induced by such kind of thinking or just interest in dreaming. I recalled 10+ previous dreams(from months before) at random moments during the day every day for a couple months. That was intense. After that I had no more forgotten dreams stashed somewhere in my mind, and I was just recalling dreams I saw that night every day. Still, sometimes I experience the same thing - random recall of forgotten dreams.
