After writing roughly 30 entries in my DJ, it has become very appartent that the orientation of things is NEVER what its supose to be. My house never looks like the one I live in, relatives who live 2000 miles away from me are suddenly down the street, and and no building, place, or structure is even SLIGHTLY close to what it should be in real life.

WHY WONT I NOTICE?! I just float along, going about my bussiness, not paying any attention to the fact that there isnt one thing around me that bares any familiarity to my real life.

I've switched locations so many times in my life that everywhere I've ever lived sort of just, meshes together. I might be in Portland, OR in my dream, and yet walk to my school from Gulf Breeze, FL, and it just wont stick in my head that this is STRANGE.

Why do you deserve that to happen?
      I'm tired being sorry.

Hi! Welcome to DV. I haven't seen you around before.

I have the same problem with my dreams. If your dreamsigns aren't clueing you into the fact that you're dreaming. . . maybe you should look for other dream signs in your journal. The kind of dream sign you described is a context dream sign and it sounds like your dreams are full of them. Maybe you could try reading your journal for one of the other three types of dream signs and start trying to use those to become lucid. The other three are Inner Awareness, Action, and Form.

Context dream signs are the ones you seem to have the most of. Context dream signs are the hardest ones to spot because while they are definitely odd, there isn't anything SO odd that they make you go HEY THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE. Examples of this type of dream sign would be if you were an airforce fighter jet pilot, or a friend you haven't seen in years is suddenly moving in with you, or you live in a house that isn't actually yours, or you dream that you're not you (I frequently dream that I'm Buffy from the tv show and I'm fighting monsters) or that you're 7 years old.

Inner Awareness dream signs are when there is something wrong with the way you are reacting to, or thinking about things. For instance. . . if you suddenly find you have the power to blow things up with your mind. . . that would be an inner awareness dream sign. Also, if your mother wins the lottery and you become sad and start to cry. . . that would be an innappropriate emotional response . . . also an inner awareness dream sign. Having odd thoughts while dreaming is also inner awareness. For example say you find yourself at the mall in a dream and you suddenly realize you can't remember how you got there.

Action dream signs are when you, or people, or objects around you are acting in a peculiar way. Maybe you find yourself in a fist fight with your school principle, or you walk into a strip club and your father is dancing with one of the girls, your refrigerator stands up and moves across the room, or you are flipping the stations on the television but the same show is playing on every channel.

The last type of dream sign is form. Form dream signs are the one I have the least frequently but they are also the only ones that I ever recognize while I'm dreaming. A form dream sign is when something looks wrong. If you dream about your dog and he's much larger than he should be, or has horns, or his hair is the wrong color, that's is a form dream sign. If someone around you doesn't look the way they do when you're awake that's a form dream sign. If your hair is usually short but you find that it's somehow grown down past your shoulders, or you've gained fifty pounds over night, or your bedroom walls are the wrong color, those are all form dream signs.

So, I would suggest that you look for reoccurring dream signs that are NOT context. Maybe you'll have more luck identifying them while you're dreaming. The others tend to be alot easier to spot as well because they are usually more sudden and more obviously out of place.

Reality checks could help you here. When you see your house, use a RC or when you hear from a relative that lives far away do a RC.

      Other then that good luck.

The more you notice that you aren't noticing your dreamsigns, the more likely you are to notice them in future!! It's all a matter of time ^_^

Hi! Welcome to DV. I haven't seen you around before. [/b]
This is because you have only been here 2 weeks, as have I. I also try to avoid flooding the board with my posts, people will begin to recognize me eventually.

Yes, I recognize the four forms of dreams signs from Stephan LaBerge's book, and understand which type I'm having. However, I want to stick with the one most common. I understand that it's harder to recognize, but because it is a constant dreamsign, it would pay off in the longrun. I wouldn't have to run on chance of something strange happening, but instead, with enough experience, be able to have LDs almost everynight. In the long run I see this paying off, and I can be patient. It would be nice to get some input from someone who uses the same form of DS. And thanks for the long comment.

Awsome. I'm going to do exactly that.

I hope your right. It doesn't matter so much how long it takes, as long as I know Im on the right track. What does the "handrub" banner imply in your signature?

      Thanks folks!

Its happened to me for so many dreamsigns! I had a particular one that I just wouldnt recognise the first 3 or so times. After that, I'd become so annoyed with it, that I recognised it the next time it happened! Handrubbing is a good technique for strengthening or stabilising lucidity Just rub your hands together and notice the nice realisitic texture!
