I have been trying to remember my dreams and record them in my dream journal but I can only ever remember them if I dont set my alarm clock and wake up naturally. I do need to set my alarm every week day or I would never get up!!! (but that means I can't remember any dreams ) Is there a way to wake up in the middle of the night without setting your alarm?

I know that drinking A LOT of water before bed does the trick for me

I dont know how people dont wake up naturally

I have always woken up at about 1:20 and 6:something am for all my life.

But as for a solution try the water, or get some sort of timed mp3 that starts nice and soft and gets louder to wake you up.

Yeah i can do the same thing as dark merlin

If i ever need to wake up in the middle of the night or at some point in the night i just tell myself that i will before going to sleep (for example) i will wake up in five hours to try a wbtb, at 4:00 in the morning i will wake up. It works everytime for mee so i can still wake up in the morning with my alarm.

Try it.....

My alarm clock kills my dream recall too, and I usually have pretty good recall in general. You can try to tell yourself you'll wake up in a few hours, I know that usually works for me. However, if you don't feel this will work and if you're willing to give up a few nights of remembering dreams you can set your alarm clock for an early hour, for example, 3am, and get your body used to waking up at that time. After maybe a few days to a week of this you'll probably wake up at 3am naturally.

I used to have the same problem.
What you do in the last minutes before you go to sleep is tell yourself that you will remember all of your dreams, and that you will wake up after each one of them.
I do this myself, and I find it verry effective. This way, you have time after you wake up to record dreams and still feel well-rested in the mornings.

I have excellant (sp?) dream recall whether w/ or w/o an alarm clock. but this comes from the fact that i tend to love to tell them to people. and if they involve someone awesome, i love to think about them to discract me from the long school day ahead. and also, before i even knew that LD ing existed and Dream Journals and stuff, id been writing my dreams down anyways.. ever since i was a little girl. and yeah my alarm clock can kill a wonderful dream by going off. and it sucks. mabey press snooze? or just write down the bits and peices of the dream that you do remember. Little by little it will all come back to you and get easier.

Thankyou for all your help
I tried to do the 'drink a lot of water' thing but ended up not being able to get to sleep at all and needing to pee!
I also tried to tell myself to wake up after every dream and remember it but I guess I was too damn tried and it has only worked once. (I will try it again once I have caught up on some sleep )
BUT I have recently started to remember one detailed dream every night even if my alarm does go off. (I remembered my most detailed dream after my alarm had gone off) I am very happy! I guess I just needed to keep working at it! (My next goal:2 dreams per night...)
