I know its been said here before that marijuana affects dream recall but man it reeeeaaaaaaalllyy does! i usually smoke multiple times a day (and even still im remembering decent dreams, with help from keeping a dream journal and reminding myself to remember them) but i decided to see if the weed really messes with my recall. I took 2 days off from smoking (might not seem like much to yall but it is if you smoke like me) and i remembered the most vivid dreams after the 2nd one. I actually remembered 2 dreams from a nap and 3 full dreams from later in the night, thats alot of dreaming for me within that short span of time! Yesterday i smoked a whole bunch, but still like always, focused on dreaming as i went to bed. I even took B6 for the first time to help with the recall and vividness. Anyway i woke up this morning and remembered shit.

Out of all the reasons i should be quitting or greatly reducing my smoking, i think dreaming and lucid dreaming is gonna be the thing to make me do it.

damn i meant to put this in the dream signs recall section. sorry to the mods about that.
am i dreaming?

Yuuup. That's good advice. I've cut back A LOT on smoking because of how bad it effects my recall. I'd been partying for the last couple of weeks or so, though, and just look at my dream journal now. Lol. Fuckin sad.

I know what you mean. Weed drastically affects recall, DRASTICALLY, and not in a good way. I was chronic once upon a time myself, and i knew if i would have cut back, my LDing would increase greatly. Eventually the time came when i had to stop smoking, and boom, all of a sudden i had LD's like at least once a week. I'm still off the dope, but i have no problems with anyone who enjoys it, either in moderation or in excess. But, to all my fellow oneironauts, be warned that weed will impair both your dream recall and your ability to lucid dream.

p.s. Congratulations on taking 2 days off BPolar! Some of us know how hard it is.

Yeah marijuana and LD don't work well together for me too. I quit weed after four years because for me it was a waste of time trying to LD when I smoke it, and I injoy the felling of LDing more. Also I wanted to stop because of my lungs and my fitness, I know I could have purchase a vaporizer but didn't want to get one because some people say it give you a different affect and didn't want to waste $$$.

It's weird, it's not at all like that for me! My dream recall can be amazing even if I've been smoking like a chimney, and then I can have a week of remembering no dreams at all when I've been totally sober. I know that it's usually not like that but marijuana doesn't seem to have any effect on my dream recall. *shrug*

Are you having a holy moment?

Yaaar... I've been experimenting for myself... it DOES seem it blocks dream recall alot. Although, that one experience where I almost WILD'd happened when I was still stoned.

I R going to stop >_<

Yeeaaahhhh...not so much. Not true in my experience at all.

I smoke it daily (glaucoma), and my dream recall is fine.

Maybe I'm just naturally better at recalling?

At any rate, what you say here isn't true for me.

I definitely find weed impairs my recall.

When I go on holiday I never smoke weed and I always have such crazy, intense and extremly vivid dreams.

this could be down to the change of environment but I personally think its down to the herb.
Its almost like my brain is rewarding me for not supressing its power with Weed.

I always wanted to have a horror movie like dream, like the movie dust til dawn or something.
My last holiday I had one exactly like that, the following night I dreamt and had around 6 FA's.

The only thing I did find is that when I dont smoke I tend to have some really distrubing nightmares, my last holiday I had a nightmare every night, not theusual horrible monster dreams but dreams that really played on my insecurities.

Thinking of quitting smoking in the new year so I'll let you all know if my recall improves.

I've never really found weed to be a problem with my dream recall. Infact..I had my first LD while still buzzed.

Thing I foudn out about weed is that when you smoke it in the 4 hours before you Close your eyes and fall asleep at night then it will send you in a way too deep Delta Sleep with little to no Drems. This is because of the Depressant, Downer, effect Weed has. However the Psychedelic effect of weed is what sometimes gives people Wonderfully Vivid and Colorfull Dreasm.

So desirabe would be to have weed's Psychedelic effects WITHOUT it's Depressant effects.

What I've found out is that in a Period, Now, that I smoke Quite alot of weed during the day while making music and drawing but STOP smoking any weed In those 4 hours before sleep, I now have most vivid and memorable Dreams. Especially those in the Early morning I can recall very vividly sometimes passing from Dream into Waking Reality almost seamlessly, Remembering the Dream like I just cam RIGHT out of it with no Comatic K.O. state of Mind before actually awakening. It's like your Mind awoke slowly and eventually completely, but all very gradually.

yeah im still smoking.

ive had 4 LDs so far, and 3 of them were on days i didnt smoke or days i only smoked a little bit, real early though.

but the 4th LD was probably the most vivid ive had and i went to sleep extremely high.
am i dreaming?

new guy here...now for something weird....i quit smoking yesterday (just b4 finding this site) smoked 1/2 ounce of hydro a week for the last 10 yrs, i have only ever quit once (last year for 2 months) and noticed immediatly that i had wild amazing dreams with almost total recall, that was the only bummer about starting again, i still had great dreams, but nothing like when i had quit.
So yesterday i started a new chapter in my life and co-incidently found this site. I never knew any of this dreaming and LD info until yesterday, now i'm totally hooked and quite sure i'll be LDing in no time at all. I've spent 2 days now reading all i can about the subject. I know i have to learn about my dream signs and start to write down my dreams and do RC's often.
I ALWAYS knew there was more to dreaming than the "scientists" told us. Why is all this info not more widely known?.
I feel like i've found the best "club" in the world.
I'll let you all know how i get on over the next few months

Pot used to destroy my recall as well, though one time I did remember a Lucid Dream
after going to sleep high.

Im happy to say, I have not smoked any in a long time, and never will again.

I gave up everything, even Tylenol and Aspirin.

And caffine. :yumdumdoodledum:

This thread made me realize I've been smoking too much hash. Well, I knew I was, but the dream recall is probably the best motivation to tone it down. It makes perfect sense too, seeing how thc messes with waking memory as well.

I'm very glad there was a post on this subject, because I've been dwelling over the exact same thing for the past couple of weeks. I am having terrible recall and smoking loads of weed at the same time. I was assuming the weed was the issue with the recall but I was trying to fight it. Either way, I think a break would be a great idea. I also find it interesting to know that some of you that posted say you have no problem with recall while still smoking weed consistently. I am wondering if possibly there is a way to overcome the loss of memory with a gain in tolerance and practice of recall; perhaps the dreams are not as vivid though.

I have yet to meet the superhuman whose memory stays on the same level when smoking weed.

Can we have an adult section, not talking sex or r rated when I say that, that DOESN'T have pot head kids wanting to live video games?

This is really disturbing. I didn't think people were actually that stupid to ruin their bodies that way.

And by not censoring posts like this it is like Dreamviews is saying that they support illegal drug use. It is also a bad thing for young people to read, who haven't started using drugs yet, to read these threads thinking that they have a safe forum only to see drugs here also. They might start because of that and the peer pressure they feel.

Shame.
