      Hi,

need help to time my alarm clock for effective "Dream Journaling".
If I understood the text on the site best is 4˝, 6 and 7˝ hours into sleep.

What I cant figure out is if theese are the times REM starts or ends?
I understand they are just pointers but anyway, have to start somewhere.

I normally go to bed 23.30 quite exactly.

      Am I right to set alarm 04.00, 05.30 and 07.00 ?
Or is it few minutes after each of them times to let REM go on for a while?

From what I have read about LDing, it is not advisable to set your alarm to wake you up in the middle of a dream. The jolt of being woken up so suddenly would more than likely cause you to forget your dreams.

If you are into CAT, (cycle adjsustment technique) to attempt to induce LDing then it would be advisable to set your alarm 90 mins before you wake up. If you need more info about that I would advise you to go to the following link.

Thanks for the wiki link, it really helped.

For others who might read this thread. Your info is all backwards acording to this quote from Dream Recal on wikibooks :
If you wake up while you are dreaming, you have roughly an 80% chance of remembering what you dreamt. Therefore, try setting an alarm clock to 4˝, 6, or 7˝ hours after you think you will fall asleep. This should wake you up directly from a dream.

You do realize that wikis can be edited by anybody right? And I hardly see how anything is backwards on either end?

Half-True. Alarm clocks do have a habit of killing your recall for that reason, but they are the best method for waking up during REM, which is where the most vivid and memorable dreaming occurs. I wake up with an Alarm clock and still manage to remember my dreams when awoken.

Sure anyone can edit wiki, but they have like crazy nazi mods on there who read over any edits the second they are made, and if there not legit they are removed or re worded if they contain any valuable info.

Yeah, but its not like the Nazi Mods know everything either. There is a tonne of incorrect information, besides, they only really watch for wiki-vandilism.
