ok, i've been having similar problems to you lately.

Last night i decided i wanted to get back into dreaming, and lucid dreaming in particular. To jog my memory, i told myself before i went to sleep that i'd remember what i'd dreamed about the night before, and i also stuck a note on the side of my bedside table saying 'what were you dreaming about?' and it seemed to work.

The dream itself was vague, but during the process of writing it down i remembered a lot more.
Some of it is actually motivation, and some of it is down to practise. Your brain needs to get into the habit of remembering dreams when you wake up.

Don't worry though if when you first start you get 'gaps' that is, you have a couple of nights of remembering and then nothing...that's quite common when you first begin.

I've been out of the loop so long on dreaming, that i've had to start from scratch.

Be sure and let me know how you get on.

You could also try to keep something you can write in with you throughout the day and write down as you remember to at least get in the habit of writing them down and maybe you'll even remember more.
      Good luck

I wouldn't even worry about this "problem". The fact that you are recalling these dreams is most important. Whenever a dream snippet comes to mind, concentrate on remembering it, and then in the afternoon or evening when you have some time, write it down. Keep trying to recall it in the morning, as that is best, but if you remember snippets later that is great too.

I would just jot the bits down as you remember them. Eventually you'll learn to remember more and more and this will become less and less of a nusissnace.

I didn't read all the other replies, but will give my personal advice for recall here..

(Placebo's 7 steps to remembering your dreams )

1 - Get yourself a dream journal. Keep it next to your bed. Try to avoid using an alarm. It's unhealthy for you anyway.

2 - When you wake up .. DONT MOVE A MUSCLE. Lie still while you do #3

3 - Can you remember anything? No? Then can you feel an emotion, or feeling that the dream produced? Probably... dwell on it. Mull it over in your head, trying to figure out what caused the feeling.

4 - Once you can remember something, think about what came before and after. How did you get there? Why did this happen? etc

5 - When you feel you have all the main points (not necessarily details) in your mind, sit up and jot them down quickly. DONT WRITE DETAILS (yet)
Leave blank lines for details later.

6 - Go have a shower or bath or whatever, and keep thinking about what you remember. Daydream about the details, etc.

7 - Fill in the details in your journal. You can expect it to get messy - that's fine. You can always rewrite it. Or just post it online they way you want.
