So I've started my dream journal and I'll give you an example. This morning's entry from last night

      -----------------------------------------------------------

      5/3 -

The boaters and skiers were talented. The long skis triumphed over the inner-tube. Michael was celebrating his 18th birthday party.

There was a shark too close to the shore so I didn't want to swim today. I went to breakfast at a resturant on the shore. I ordered the special and after I received it, I read the menu again "an extra 2 years of shame to all who eat this" I threw down the plate and shattered it in disgust. The waiters weren't surprised. Kaitlin was selling all kinds of drugs - XTC, weed, opiates. I saw what I thought was a piece of hash and I quickly hid it before dad could see. Kaitlin's friend was wearing a wig of old gray hair and it looked horrible on her.

Bicycling over the frozen water bridge was almost impossible. I tried it once, got far, and had to turn around before I got in more trouble. Chris tried it and he came back as the Grim Reaper and won the soccer battle with his scythe. We had a victory feast afterwards and there was a pizza on top of someones decapitated head on the table.

We had to tread lightly because there were ant holes below and we could have gotten sucked in. Hayley's advertisements were retarded, I had no idea why they were relevant to Snapple. Adobo food tastes and smells horrible, especially Adobo Snapple.

      ----------------------------------------------------

ok that is an exact replica of my journal, I structured it based on the different events and environments - each paragraph took place somewhere else. I never remember the transitions between environments and events either.

Does this mean each paragraph is one dream? How long does each dream cycle take in minutes normally?

Also assuming each is a different dream, how well would my dream recall be would you say? I started a journal two nights ago.

I'd count that as 4 separate dreams Bortolazzo since they were 4 different scenes at 4 different locations.

Although they may have been one continuous dream, there were 4 completely different themes, locations, and scenes, which to me counts as 4.

So give yourself credit for 4 dreams and pat yourself on the back for a job well done, remembering so many vivid and exciting dreams in one night.

How long a dream cycle can take in minutes varies greatly depending upon the person and how much sleep they have already had when the dream cycle occurs.

When I am allowed the luxury of sleeping longer than 8 hours, normally only on the weekend, I can often get my rem cycles to occur about every 5 to 10 minutes with dreams lasting a minute or less sometimes which allows me to rack up about 9 or 10 dreams in about an hour or more.

Rem cycles can often occur erratically.

I woke up the first time last night after 1 hr 45 minutes to remember only one dream, and then 50 minutes later I woke up and remembered 2 dreams, while the rest of the night the dreams came almost every hour to hour and a half.

Congratulations on a great start to what looks like is going to be a very productive and exciting dream journal.
