      Unpredictable sleep schedule= awful recall?

Folks...I have a confession to make...I have not had a regular sleep schedule for a long time...some nights I sadly fall asleep at 9:00pm, others not until 4-4:30 am...(Because of a fracture in my foot that bears the risk of cracking down the middle should I put the slightest weight on it, I've got to be inactive to let it heal)...So, my sleep is unpredictable, I find myself up till all hours goin from site to site, meandering, typing my dream journal.

I used to have VERY good recall..perhaps 3-4 vivd dreams a night, with nearly all fragments and bits remembered.

I recently have gotten myself into a rut I think...I'm losing confidence in my dreaming head because I can barely remember 1 dream a night...much, much worse than before. As each day of this messed up schedule goes by, my recall gets bit by bit worse..(I'm not saying I don't DILD, I usually can recall those) and I find myself increasingly frustrated. As we all know, frustration is a recall AND LD killer...

Tell me, if I get onto a relatively more normal sleep pattern...(since I have the freedom to do it now, perhaps 12 or 1 until 10 or 11 am as opposed to 4am-5pm or 3 am- 2pm) do you think my recall will increase? Is there a definite correlation between a regular sleep schedule and good recall? I want it back, badly, and I can't stand my frustration with NOT recalling.

Any advice is welcome, perhaps I'm acting prematurely, and I think I know the answer, but I guess I'm looking for confirmation. I want to remember my adventures of the night .

It's strange...I find that the more irregular my sleep schedule, the better my dream recall. Now that I'm working full time and going to bed at like 12 every night and getting up at 6am I don't remember any of my dreams. But when I used to stay up all night, sometimes for a couple days at a time, or sleep till all hours of the day...I used to dream like mad. I bet it's different for everyone though.

I'd suggest to at least give it a shot to get into a regular sleep schedule since you're worried about your dream recall, what've you got to lose?

      Thanks Aquanina,

I appreciate your response. I think I will give it my best shot..perhaps I 'll try it for a few nights, get up before the PM hours and go to bed hopefully by 12 am ish..I hope to see some recall increase...I think what I recall happening when I was less....nocturnal, is getting to bed regularly and sleeping for long hours...thus more REM I figure, and much more vivid dreams and LD's by morning, though I could be way off...I'll try for this, though I doubt I'll be able to resist DV temptation for long .

I feel like a baby in this thread. But maybe... Itll help. As for what i researched. It really doesnt matter, when you go to sleep, but how much you sleep. ANd what is even better. Its cool to go to sleep at the evening {maybe at 8 or 9pm} and then wake up at 11pm. This will wake you up fully. And then try to fall asleep. Your mind will be more active to wake you up when the right time for recalling is.

If you can go to sleep at 8pm, I take my hat off to you.
That would be great, but all the cool shows and my life occurs then.
