Smile can heavy cannabis use effect my dream recalls

ive only been trying to recall for 3 days and have had next to no recall up to now. i have smoked weed for about 4 ~5 years nearly every day. i cant go to bed untill about 1 or 2 in the morning but i can still have a 10 hour sleep most nights i tell myself to remember my dreams and wake after all my dreams but since i started i just wake up in the mornings like normal and with nearly no recalls or very little. is this the weed or is it to soon and im just not good at recall ?

Hey there. I'm an avid smoker too. I don't think that has anything to do with it though, good try. I don't think effects the memmory that bad. LOL. Others might disagree, but they probably don't smoke though. I had some crazy dreams last night though. Just keep on with the asking to be able to remember, that worked for me. Now I don't ask anymore, I just remember them. Every now and then I'll ask, if I haven't had one in a while, but I usually don't have to. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

How about a small experiment? I know you said it would be hard, but maybe you could give it up for a week and report back the effects?

I mean in the name of Science and all that?

Well I'll be 23 in May and I've been smokin' since I was 10... Yeah I know it's horrible! I didn't start smoking every day until I was 13 or 14, maybe earlier who knows... I am a pot head you know. Yeah I'm at work bored too. I just get a little edgy. If I keep my mind off it I'm good though. Only time I didn't smoke was when I went to cozumel for a week. Let me tell to you... I got hiiiiigh when I got home that's for sure. I think anyone can do what they want, you just gotta DO IT!

I'm 26 and I've been smoking since I was 14. I can tell you, from personal experience, that it severely affects my recall. My journal is filled with all my logging of when I quit smoking for days at a time, and my recall shot up. When I got really heavy into LDing, I cut down heavily on my smoking, and my recall shot through the roof. I believe going to sleep stoned makes you sleep too heavily. When I started going to school I cut back even more and when I'm sober (and getting enough sleep) my recall is better than it's been in years.

Of course it's possible to remember your dreams, or even have vivid dreams. I've done it, too, but I would almost be willing to put money on that if you were to stop for a while - even only like a week or so - your recall would skyrocket. Give it a shot.

I still had LDs, but they occured (or I remembered them) much less often. And I still smoke, but I haven't smoked in the past 30 days or so, because I'm between jobs and I don't want to be surprised with a test. Heh. I'll start again, once I get my priorities right, but not as much as I used to, because I'm going to school online, and it kind of kills my motivation since I always would rather do something other than schoolwork, when I've been smoking.

haha, i haven't smoked for a month now, because of implications with the authority figures that supposedly are there for our protection. but that's for another thread, as you can see I joined the forum a long time ago, took a leave and came back in march. This is because while smoking all day every day i didn't really stay into lucid dreaming too much. Now that i can't smoke for a few months i've gotten back into it and from keeping a dream journal my recall has improved from a remembering some dreams to remembering every single dream. I dont know if thats a result of the dream journal or the not smoking, but Im pretty sure that going to bed stoned isn't good for when you're starting to lucid dream. maybe once you've already got it down then you can do it, because i'm a firm believer that you can do anything high that you can do sober.

for instance, i'm learning some really good habits right now while i'm being sober so that when I can smoke again, i'll still have those good habits. (like not being lazy and doing dishes right after i eat... i live at home with mom)

When I look through my journal I can instantly tell when I am looking for a sack. The entries are in greater detail, and there are more of them.

I was just thinking about this topic and was going to start a thread myself. I have been smoking heavily for about a year and just got in the pattern of not having dreams and not thinking about it as anything unusual. Then about a month ago I got caught with drug paraphernalia at school. This caused me to go from smoking an ungodly amount of weed per day to smoking none whatsoever. As a result of this, during the past month especially, I have actually been recalling my dreams more and more which led me to do a google search and here I am. So I can second what Oneironaut said that it is directly related - no question about it.

Huh? They test you in the workplace? What sort of job are you going for? (If that's too personal a question, no worries).

Anything, really. I was being picky before, trying to get into a decent, clerical type of position kind of like my last one in an insurance firm, but it's been insanely hard to find a decent job, right now. So I'm pretty much looking for anything that'll bring in a paycheck.

And a lot of the jobs around here drug test you, before they hire you. Everything from grocery stores to law firms. Not all, of course, but many do.

Good grief. You amaze me! What a shite state of affairs.

Over here it's just the Police, Railway Companies and Bus Companies that drug test prospective job applicants.

I feel for you man.. grocery stores? Sheeeeesh..

Sam Dreamer---Only one ld dream for now. I woke myself up when I realized... I guess I got excited!! LOL! I remember alot of my dreams though. Like last night I had 3 and I remember all of them! Maybe not as well as I could if I didn't smoke but hey... It's cool with me, that I can atleast remember them, and I didn't write them down.

Of course it effects your recall. One of the major criticisms of Marijuana is in its effect on the memory, it certainly can't help, as well as fogging your mind in general.

Momories from waking life and from dreaming get better if you don't smoke. the recall on dreams also is better if you do not smoke.
      A reason to stop smoking.

I've spoken to several people who, once they quit smoking weed, experienced a major surge in vivid dreams. So, it well could be the weed. And even if it isn't that in particular, since you've been smoking for so long, if you were to stop for a little while i would bet it would seriously help dream recall, at least during that window.
