How can i remember dreams more often?

so i have a pretty bad memory, so that really doesn't help when i'm trying to remember a dream. When I wake up i have a feeling that i know i dreamed. but i have absolutly no idea what it was about. I hardly ever remember my dreams anymore. I used to have the most hilarious weird dreams like a few years ago. but now i can't remember them. like this morning, i woke up knew i dreamed, was going to write it down. but i had no clue of what i dreamed.

I'd try getting more sleep. Patience and motivation always work, as well as what 12g951ad said; a dream journal.

Defnitely keep a dream journal. It really helps. Your dream recall will become better if you write down all your dreams.

I find recall easier the longer i sleep. Also don't get right up when you wake, stay still, don't look around, don't think ahead to what you need to do when you get out of bed, just close your eyes and try to remember what was just happening. Don't fall back asleep though, which is one of the hardest things for me personally. Almost everytime I'm trying to recall a dream, I fall back asleep lol.

Guys, his problem is that he can't remember his dreams in order to even write them down, so how do you expect him to keep a dream journal?

What Forsaken said was good. More sleep obviously leads to more dreams, right? If you have an alarm that wakes you up, try turning it off on the weekend. Suddenly getting up to turn it off really messes up your dream recall.

I'm thinking about buying a device to help me keep a digital dream journal with my own voice and this things sounds pretty cool: Sony ICDUX80 Digital Voice Recorder with MP3 Stereo Recording and Playback (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICDUX80-R...8332779&sr=8-1) Because it has Voice Operated Recording (VOR) feature which stops the recording during silent pauses, saving valuable recording time, then begins recording again without missing a single syllable because of the digital buffer. So with such device you could also record things you say / sounds you make in your sleep. I haven't tested but I think it'd help a lot. 1 more advantage is not having to move your body or extremities to keep the journal (will be in VOR mode whole night) Then you can perform several techniques without getting out of SP. Just an idea

Repeat to yourself while going to sleep: "I will awake from my dreams and remember them completely."

      then start a dream journal!
      Bollocks.

VOR option will only activate when I actually make sounds so when I set it with right sensitivity It should only be recording when I moan/yell/fart/cry/grind teeth or actually keep the dream journal (which is the main target) Don't think it'd be more than 1 hour for 8 hours of sleeping

Just keep trying, and keep using autosuggestion. I still don't remember 'em EVERY night, but it's getting more and more common that I do than it ever was before. They're really cool, too. Sometimes VERY weird, sometimes very funny, sometimes both!

Set an alarm for 90 mins before you wake up normally.
And even 90 mins before that if possible too.
See if you remember any then.

Autosuggestion and DJ'ing, as others mentioned, definately helps for me.

But if you have trouble with memory in your waking life, that is probably a huge factor in what you're experiencing in a dream state. Lucidity in waking life helps promote lucidity in dreams, so it could follow that memory follows the same principle. Maybe you could try to find ways to fine-tune you're memory during the day?

I did many things in my earlier days that effected both my short- and longterm memory. What's fortunate is that the mind is an incredibly resilient thing, and even though it can be conditioned one way (ie. a lack of strong memory), it can be conditioned to do the opposite. All it takes is concentration and motivation. Think of improving your memory as a concrete skill like riding a bike, or researching a project for work or school.

There are a lot of ways to challenge and improve your memory. Internet websites can offer tests to work on it. Also, keeping a journal of your waking life can improve it--by focusing on details as they happen, as well as recalling them after the event. Also, I'm not a videogame person, but I've heard of a game called Brain Trainer that offers memory challenges as well.

Sometimes the key to training your mind is making the brain-building activity fun (ie. memorizing multiplication tables can be tedious and harder to learn, but remembering the tune to a song you like is easier, even though musical notes are far more abstract). As silly as it sounds, I play Simon--or a similar game on miniclips.com called Sveerz--that helps me fine-tune my memory using colors and pitches.

At the very least, keep in mind that sometimes abstract obstacles can often be solved using mind-over-matter.

      I hope this feedback helps!

I have only two halpful hints:

      1. When you wake up. Dont change your position. If you already change it, return to that position.... DOnt fall asleep and recall in a way specific to YOU

      2. Use your dream journal not only to record your dreams. What would you write there if you didnt recall anything that night? Use it to write your progress, thoughts, fears, experiments and also successes and unsuccesses along with dreams. You dont have to write much. You have to write something. This is the only way to keep consistent, becouse (believe it or not), it is another human who wakes up in the morning than the man who fell asleep

I find it sometimes helps to focus on and remember the last thing I dreamed of then work backwards as far as I can.

Voice recorders are a godsend for dream journals! Any tape recorder or Digital Voice Recorder that's easy to switch on when you're half asleep is good!

You can dictate your recall with your eyes closed. This is sometimes a great help! You can transcribe it later to paper when you're awake.

You talk to vacuum cleaners and safes, you've had apple trees growing in your living room, tigers and horses in your dining room, an elephant in your bedroom. I've seen you locked in a jail in the middle of your living room and once someone swore they saw you floating in mid-air! How do you explain that, Major Nelson!?

this could just be me but i havnt been able to remember a single dream for the past 3 days, even though i wake up right from them and i'm doing everything right. and i think it's because it has been exceptionally freezing here at night during the past 3 days, and i live in san diego, so i'm not used to it at all. and as soon as i wake up, i can't help it, but usually the thought "jesus it's fucking cold" enters my mind before "what did i just dream?". not too mention it's makes it hard to relax and calm the mind and body and all that jazz when i'm shivering my ass off.
