      Dream Dream Recall

I've had this problem with my dream recall a few times lately. I'm new at this thing, and have only been attempting to recall my dreams for a week or so. It'd been going pretty well for the first few days, but recently something's come up in my dreams which makes me less likely to recall and record in my journal.

That is, because i often will myself to remember dreams as i'm going to sleep, i find i'm so conscious of the recording/recall aspect (moreso than anything else at all) that my dreams often conclude with a false awakening in which i write in my dream journal. The result of this is that often when i wake up (for real) and am half asleep i think i've already recorded my dreams during the night, so don't bother to again. Whereas in fact i'd not recorded anything at all.

By the time i realise that it was a false-awakening and false-recording i've forgotten the dream that preceded it. I spose at least remembering that i wrote something is at least some form of dream-recall, but it's making me forget the more important stuff. Any ideas?

      Hey megalopsychos

Thats quite an amusing and annoying problem...
Assuming you wish to lucid dream, you might be able to turn this into a distinct advantage though..

Make a habit of doing reality checks, whenever waking up, or being in your bed.
Once you do this out of habit - automatically - then you will start to do them in these false awakenings of yours

Then you'll known you aren't really writing it down, and you'll realise that you still need to recall the previous dream.
The disadvantage is that you'll end up with 2 dreams to remember ... the original one, and the lucid one
But over time (if not straight away) you should get better at recalling both

      Good luck

Indeed this could be turned into your advantage as Placebo said. Make it a habitual reality check!

Although i can sympathise with your problem of the FA's, they can be annoying. Oh yeah, welcome to DV megalopsychos

Thanks very much for the helpful responses. Now that i'm so aware of these falsities - you're right - they should work as obvious and frequent dreamsigns.
